Geocaching titles for TeamHellhound

Leo and Lily are officially geocachers now. They have both earned their Beginner Seeker titles for finding geocaches and their Beginner Tracker titles for finding a trackable or Travel Bug.

The actual certificates are fine. My scanner being wonky, and I didn't feel like arguing with it.

Hmm... electrical box part? Or geocache?

And who knew you could use these little tins for something besides nosework?

And yes, that container is teensy. It's not much bigger than a pencil eraser.

Some of them look like something you would expect to see in that location.

Trackables and Travel Bugs are items with unique codes on them, that you can log on the website, as well as move from cache to cache. (Some of them have been practically around the globe.) In this case, the trackable we found was a little Jeep figurine.

Onward to Novice Seeker and Novice Tracker! We have everything logged for them, so I can submit whenever I get around to it.

Congratulation Leo and Lilly--that's quite an accomplishment. And congratulatons to you too Rosemary--I know just how tough it is to let a tracking dog do his job and believe him.

Thanks, but I'm the one doing all the finding, since they lack opposable thumbs and the ability to read a map. They just need to be there with me when I find them.

Geocaching is basically a worldwide scavenger hunt, based on GPS coordinates. https://www.geocaching.com/play/search Caches can range in size from the little tiny nano to a five gallon bucket (or even larger), and the coordinates are logged on the Geocaching website. You can call up the map, see where caches are near you, and go looking for them. GeoPup Sports combines geocaching and doing things with your dogs. I'ts a fun way to get a walk in.

And I agree with you about tracking. Even when I've laid the track, and know exactly where it is, I still wonder if they are going to go off on a tangent....

Rosemary,

Congrats for Leo and Lilly - looks like lots of fun!
Our Eva would be a good tracker, except she doesn't particularly like going to new places, prefers her familiar routes.

I hope you don't walk around like those "Pokeman Go Zombies" do in our local parks, that we frequently encounter!

Sometimes whole charter buses will show up and offload, what look like "The Undead", mesmerized by their smartphones, walking the trails we take our Dobes on.

Ten Doberman Rules
Poke Everything.
It's New? Bark At It.
Moves? Chase It.
Doesn't Move? Smell It.
Liquid? Spill and Dribble It.
Treat or Food? Wolf It Down.
Not Food? Chew It Slowly, Be Quiet & Hide From Human.
A Toy? Shred & Destroy It.
Stuffed? De-Stuff It.
Bites You Back? Wrestle It!

Uhhh.... well, I do have to look at my cell phone sometimes, since that is where the map is.... Once I'm in the right general area, though, it's usually just digging through bushes, lifting things up to see what's under them, or else looking up to see if it's on top of something. One of the ones we found today was actually in a waterproof envelope type container slipped in between a sign and the post it was attached to.
