Surgery for dog with heart murmur

Hey everyone,

Just looking for any of those with experience with putting a dog through surgery with a big heart murmur? My Min pin mix has a Grade 4/5 heart murmur and has broken a tooth so now I'm looking at surgery and a bit worried.

I was thinking about a dental specialist as I know they're quicker, but ideally if it's going to go under I may as well remove a large fatty lump from him at the same time so I would go to my regular vet who I trust fully.

Definitely feeling a bit worried. I know the shelter did put him under before we got him (almost 3 years ago) for a dental and removing bladder stones but I'm a huge worrier.

I'd discuss the possible dental surgery with both my regular vet and the dental specialist--you'd want to know IF surgery for a dog with that grade heart murmur would even be recommended. Sometimes for any kind of heart condition the dangers of the anesthesia outweigh leaving the dental problem as it is.

Thanks definitely a good idea. He has been having difficulties chewing so unfortunately I don't know if we have a choice to leave it as is. I've been on him about dental care because I didn't want to risk it and then I noticed the broken tooth......and now the problems chewing as well.
