I have no clue what order NoBite is going to post the pics, but there is a pic of my Dry Pond, Dominic and Princess Lily Belle. One pic of the neighbors DD's (well, at least 2 of the A-holes). The black Dane pup seems okay. I hope NB blows that pic up, so you can actually see their partial pack of dogs. But, if not, you can at least see I take pride in my property and the neighbors don't.

Spock,

Patience, Grasshopper!

We have a gas grill, so I usually boil the chicken before I put it on the grill so I don't end up burning the outside while the inside is still raw. I'm trying something different tonight...I only turned on the burner on the right side, and left the middle and left burners off and put the raw chicken all the way to the left to cook it on indirect heat till done, then I'll turn down the burner on the right as low as it will go and move the chicken over there to brown it up and then put some BBQ sauce on it. In theory, it should work just like I used to do on my old Weber kettle grill (charcoal on one side, chicken on other) but for some reason I've never tried indirect heat with this gas grill before.

Mrs. TN said I was nuts because it's 86 (feels like 91) out there but I've had the craving for BBQ chicken all day so BBQ chicken it is. At least with indirect heat I don't have to stand there watching it so it doesn't flare up and burn.

And yeah I just wasted 2 minutes of your time telling you something you already knew. To cook on indirect heat, not that I was nuts :wink2:

Speaking of Etsy, this is where I got some of my Doberman decals. She used to be a member here, and does great work...I see she's also doing them with uncropped ears now:

And this is what Mrs. TN and I both have on the back window of our SUVs

No worries Bug on that double post I heard it thru the grapevine folks are easily forgiv'in by the Mods via food!
So what cha got, hummmmmmmmm?

:robinhood:
Hmmmm--I finally made the slightly modified stroganoff--tastes pretty good but the purists would never go for it and beside not cutting the meat into pencil thin 2 inch long strips I also cheat and serve it on rice--which I prefer to noodles.

I thought accidental double post got an escape freebee (I'll just borrow some of Kenny's GOOTWS free tickets.)

So solly it definitely was an accident.

Always listen to The Mrs or there will be hell to pay.

Just saying.

Mister washed the gray right out of my hair on the patio and he wasn't happy about it.

Maybe now I can get dressed up for a kiss picture?

LOL! Hey TN--I 've done the old boil (actually I simmer it) the chicken before it goes on the BBQ so I don't end up with raw inside and black outside chicken. Actually I don't BBQ at all but my SO many years ago and his cuz were party animals who liked to have these big BBQ's and they'd be late getting started and everyone would be clamoring for food so after several such "parties" I started preprepping both the chicken and ribs--I'd pre simmer both of them and the guys did fine with burgers and sausages so they were on their own for those but I particularly hate raw on the inside burned on the outside chicken and the cuz caught on very quickly and he'd grab the pans of chicken and ribs from me and mop them with his BBQ sauce and give the burgers and sausages to my SO. Worked perfectly--meant I never did really learn how to properly BBQ anything.

Never heard of "the hubs of Hell", but here's what I could find:

"Hotter than the hubs of Hades

In Reply to: Hotter than the hubs of Hades posted by Victoria S Dennis on June 16, 2008 at 12:58:

: : : I don't find "hotter than the hubs of Hades" in Phrase Finder. There's some speculation on other sites, but this is the one I trust. Does anyone have a definitive answer? It seems to be fairly common in the U.S (I first heard it over 50 years ago).

: : The word "hub" in this expression is a variant of hob, which means principally, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, "In a fire-place, the part of the casing having a surface level with the top of the grate." It is where you put things to keep them warm without burning up. I think, however, that being put on the hobs of Hades does put you in danger of burning up or at least of getting much too hot.

: : I don't think the expression is heard much in the U.S. nowadays. You'll more often hear, "hotter than the hinges of Hades."
: : SS

: This is a euphemism for "hotter than the hobs of Hell" which is certainly the earlier version. I've also come across "black as the hobs of Hell" in 19th-century literature. The hob of a fireplace is proverbially a black hot place, as is Hell; logically the hottest and blackest part of Hell should be its hobs. (VSD)

In the southwestern US here, I hear "hubs of hell" a lot and never hinges nor any variation with Hades. There must be regional differences."

And this:

As hard as the hobs of hell
Posted by Baceseras on October 16, 2007

In Reply to: As hard as the hobs of hell posted by Smokey Stover on October 16, 2007

: : I have heard s saying oft quoted in my family (which is based in Ireland):

: : 'As hard as the hobs of hell'

: : Of course it could be likely that this is a perversion of another saying.

: By another saying, are you thinking of "hot as the hinges of Hades"? It would make a little more sense to me if the saying quoted in your family were, "Hot as the hobs of hell." Hobs (or hubs) were surfaces in a fireplace or on a stove where things could be set in order to get warm or stay warm. They were hard, of course, since they were used as supports. But how hard does hard have to be for this purpose?
: SS

I heard "the knobs of hell", not hobs; and what were those knobs --- budding horns, perhaps?

I don't know if they were Irish at the root (not the horns, but the folks who said "knobs of hell"): possibly Scotch-Irish, by way of Appalachian.

And then there's this:

"My mother-in-law used to always use the phrase, “hotter than the Hubs of Hades”. Now, due to vocal exasperation from her daughter and my constant query, “exactly how hot are the Hubs of Hades?” she has quit using it. I really don’t think I will be getting an answer from her, so I turn to you, Jellies. How hot are they?"

"They’re actually kept cooler than the ambient temperature of 666. It might be an engineering snafu, but the hot tubs melt around 583 degrees, well before 666, leaving a hot puddle. Nobody likes a hot puddle. So, to contain the water, they actually cool it to a brisk 550 degrees. People go hot-tubbing to cool down.

It’s a bit of a misnomer really."
Holy cow Mel,

I got it from my sainted grandmother who was not a swearer under normal circumstances. Of French decent (La Brie was her maiden name and she and her mother discussed things they didn't want my mother and her sister and brother to understand in French, So my very French great grandmother who died before I was old enough to remember her, if she swore I guess it would have been in French--my grandmothers' strongest cuss word was that 'hell'.

And she only used it when referring to the extreme South Dakota summer temperatures.

Interesting the various permutations. Since Hades and hell were interchangable I expect that Hades was the polite version and hell was what the guys said around other guys. But it's the only version I'd ever heard in the midwest. I'll buy that hubs was an alternative version and probably regional of hobs.

Goodness...

Once in a while we get a snow in SATX, like this one during winter of 2011, when Spock was 11 mo. old, pictured with his old pack mate, Lillah.

Lillah & Spock Brave the 2.2011 Snow "Blizzard" in SATX :grin2:

It's funny around here, in S. Central TX, when winter weather gets even slightly cold, the women haul out their mukluk boots and Russion ushanka fur hats. No reason the well appointed Dobe shouldn't have the same luxury?.... :2smile:

And when we travel up north in our AT-RV during winter, to visit Mel et al, we'll need winter gear... :wink2:

Good morning.
Nice Ford Spock!
You are a smart man.:grin2:

Your just saying that to bait your Cuz, aren't you?

LaDi, you've got to be more subtle, along these lines:

Etsy vendor Illustrate Chrissy also has many neat animal stickers, including these, that would look great on back of any GM truck window... >:)

Sorry for butting in with another hit and run post (I have NOT been able to keep up lately!), but today would have been Zipper's 11th birthday. Another 20 days and it will be one whole year since she left me...

But good news is the insurance adjuster was here yesterday, and he recommended lots more repairs than I would have even asked for. Better news is I think I finally found a contractor that can actually do all the work. He's supposed to be out Monday or Tuesday to look at everything, but he's a general contractor so he can do not just the roof, but the inside where the ceiling has fallen in, plus the windows, the storm doors, and maybe my wonky shower door which now won't close. The shower door will be on us, but he could fix it while he's here.

Wish me luck.

Oh, and Missy had to have a small (pea sized) tumor removed from her shoulder on Wednesday. By the next morning, the incision was infected, and she's not a good patient. It has become a battle to get anything ON the incision. I'm not outright blaming the vet for the infection, but if Rich had driven Missy up to the "good vet" I don't think it would be infected. (I guess I AM blaming her for the infection.) Anyway, wish me luck getting THAT cleared up, too. (Topical penicillin because I'm brave, but not brave enough to try to give Missy a shot without sedating her with a 2x4, Neosporin, and raw honey.)

Situation normal for around here, I guess...

I have to say, I kind of have to laugh at your "snow"... :grin2:

I've used that same Star Trek patch on a custom coat I made. A customer wanted a Star Trek themed coat (actually a former member here!). Turned out super cute. I've made a couple of them now, a few for other Dobermans named Spock!

Glad to hear you got a good contractor, Lannie! That can be so hard to find. I'll be keeping Missy in my thoughts for that incision to get healed up.

I do that too--except for the VW's I owned in SoCal--stealing VW's was a big business--they sold for more than either of them cost me new in Baja as Baja buggys.

My first Toyota Tacoma (1983 short bed, two wheel drive) with a $400 canopy ran until it blew an oil pump on a max traffic time on a freeway--could not get over--trashed the engine. But it had over 300,000 miles with only routine service. My second one is what I'm driving now--it's a 1999 also short bed and retired from delivery truck for an Arizona furniture and appliance store (i know that because you can read the faint shadow on the side of the front where the Arizona sun altered the paint color (white). It had about 190,000 miles on it then and I've added not very many more in the 10+ years I've had it--maybe 3 or 4K not showing many dogs in anything more than a few agility trials and being sort of retired.

Given my tendency to keep stuff until it falls apart--if it hadn't been stolen I'd probably still be driving that first (1963) VW--it was 38hp--which meant it could hardly get up the hill going north from Portland to Seattle right after the bridge. And you had to be doing 70mph at the start to hope to be doing 35mph at the top (and that was when that section of I-5 didn't exist--it was Hwy 99 E.)

Gotta' go murder some maples.

ABTLH
Geeze, Kenny you think you should edit your stuff better? That bolded section should have been 30 or 40K--I've had that truck for 11 years now--while not driving to work at least 5 days a weeks and the great reduction in showing dogs cut way down accrued mileage it wasn't THAT much.

You think you're SOOOOOO funny.
