First thing I did this morning was go out on the deck to make sure my smoker was still here and yep, it is

37 out there right now...it rained hard most of yesterday afternoon and last night so Mocha and I are contemplating if it's worth it to venture out to the park this morning...the cold plus muddy, slippery trails vs. staying inside and drinking hot coffee...hmmmm what's a boy to do?

Nancy and Papa - drove into Andrews place...yesterday at 11:00 morning time.
- to much cloud cover / 58^F with little sun, so no 2nd stain of sealer
- 1st coat still a wee bit tacky...but dry enough to not leave foot prints
- Larry mudded a drywalled door way (corner bead)...for 40 minutes
- and we headed to Costco / new shirt and pants ($25 each), and birdseed pickup
- later in the evening, it rained here
- so a 2nd coat, would have been ruined ...but we skipped, the 2nd coat
- due to October weather

Some of my best and closest real life friends I met on a forum. One of them flew out to visit me and Rich on September 29, 2001. She had already planned the trip and bought her ticket before the 11th, but she conquered her fear and got on the plane anyway, all the way from Sudbury, Ontario to Redmond, Oregon. Her family told her she was crazy to get on a plane and fly all the way across North America to visit people she'd never even met, but we already felt like sisters then, and she came anyway. And we are still friends to this day.

I've made some very very good friends, and I couldn't have gotten through everything with Shanoa without the support of folks here. Nor would I have learned everything I've learned without people here. I still miss a lot of the people that have left (or, disappeared...I still worry about a few people that have simply gone "poof" with no trace).

In other news, we did, in fact, get a few snowflakes this morning. They disappeared within about 15 minutes but...yuck! A little too early for me!
Yep, like I said above, I've made so many friends that started out as online acquaintances. You can tell if a person is making stuff up, or if they're really showing you the real "them," if you read carefully. I've always just been me online, and that way I don't have to remember what I might have said at any given time. Like, I used to be really pretty (I have pictures to prove it!), but now, even though my hair is still red, isn't not AS red as it once was, and I have a bit more "insulation" now than I used to, and I've developed the famous "Hansen jowls" that look so very attractive (NOT!). But I'm still nice. Even if I'm not a hottie anymore, like Doc. There, see? Now I don't have to remember whether I said I was a gorgeous redhead or not. (It's NOT.) But I'm nice, and that's what counts, eh?

I, for one, are glad you are here! This thread, is meant for fun and respect and support for each other. You did mean this thread, right? If so, I couldn't have done it by myself. Thanks everybody!
You won't burn down your coop. The base is 4 or 5 inches tall, and the heater element is a mat with wiring in it, glued to the underside of the top. However, because fire in a coop is a major disaster, set the heater base on something that's not flammable. We have a couple of concrete blocks, like chimney blocks (kinda flat) that ours sits on. Make sure there's no gap or overhang of the heater base off the blocks, however, because the mice will nest in there because it's nice and warm. And they'll drag flammable stuff in under there and shred it for their nests. We clean ours out every spring, and it's never caught fire (and even if it did, it would be contained under the heater base). Those dang mice can get in such a small hole, you wouldn't believe they could do it, but they can. Anyway, don't worry, just set your base on blocks or even a clean sheet of plywood, because the heater element won't get hot enough to catch anything on fire at floor level.

That's a different story altogether. Bless him for making it this far. My girl, Aiesha made it to 29 before she went, and yes, when it was going to be wet and cold out, I blanketed her, too. I tried not to if it was dry and cold, or just cold and snowy, but the wet really chills them to the bone, especially if they don't have enough body fat on them, which she didn't, either. I was talking about young, healthy horses in good flesh when I made that comment.

I made the blanketing mistake, though, when I first got Aiesha. I put a blanket on her and PUT HER IN A STALL! ROFLMAO! She disassembled the barn to get out, and then somehow shimmied out of that blanket without undoing any of the straps and buckles! To this day, I don't know how she managed that, and I'd love to have seen it. I had her inside and blanketed because it was "COLD!" out, like down to 32 degrees! LOL! I was young and ignorant of a lot of things back then, as we all are. Or were. But like I said before, I'm a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks, and I remembered most, if not all, of my lessons.

I have not been able to read back, as a matter of fact. I'd like to, but it's all I can do to keep up with the last 24 hours! I'll take your word for it that he's a manly man. I admire ANYONE who can back a tractor/trailer in a straight line! And rocks out to Tom Petty.

See? It's almost 7:30 (time to go wake up Grumpy Bear) and I'm just finally finished reading and replying to everything since I was last on here.

Thanks for the daily smiles! Off to "work" I go! (Man, I'd give anything to have my old 8-5 hours back, with weekends off! Dis farm work be hard workz. And no time off. Boo. But I have kitties and doggies and cowies and one silly horsey to fill my days, so it's all good!

I know some of you are sitting there with bated breath, pacing furrows in your carpet, wondering if I gave in to my inherent laziness and made the coffee and watched cartoons or if I took Mocha for a hike. LOL
It actually wasn't as muddy as I thought it would be but it was chilly...and bonus, almost no people out this morning

You never would have made it back in the old days. My mom and sibs used to HAVE TO (to hear her tell it) go on a Sunday drive with her parents every week. They used a "Blue Book" to get around. For those of you who were not alive then (I know Bug remembers these ), here's a bit about them.

"The Official Automobile Blue Book, 1901–1929: Precursor to the American Road Map"
John T. Bauer

Navigating by automobile at the dawn of the twentieth century was difficult because maps appropriate for this new mode of transportation were scarce. An early solution to this problem was the route guide. Listing turn-by-turn directions between various cities, route guides helped early motorists navigate a network of unmarked, local roads....

In addition to distances, landmarks are also at the heart of the route guide’s narrative. Not only did prominent landmarks identify the beginning and ending of routes, they identified individual turns or segments along the route. Most commonly, these intermediate landmarks were railroad tracks and power/telephone poles....Other popular landmarks were buildings (courthouse, church, school, post office, library, railroad station), bridges (covered bridge, iron bridge, small wooden bridge), businesses (drug store, blacksmith shop, grocery store), trolleys, and parks, including fairgrounds and cemeteries.

https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/829...52c430c911.pdf (see page 9 for sample instructions)

I remember seeing an old copy of one--seems like I remember things like "Drive 2.5 miles, turn left at first telephone pole onto dirt road. Follow fence line for 1 mile and turn right at old maple tree. Go left around cattle herd and drive 100 yards. Stop at white farmhouse" but maybe I just heard my parents parodying its instructions when we finally got to my grandparent's house after a 3 day trip. When we traveled, my dad would buy a couple of maps at the first gas station in a new state we stopped at. One for my mom, one for us kids, which we had to share. As the youngest, I rarely got a look at it.

I love maps to this day...it's all of that pent up desire to grab the map away from the big kids and have it for my own.

I forgot, is Hoss with you?

If so, when you (eventually) get pulled over, as Scott's sleeping, make sure Hoss doesn't give the trooper the infamous Dobe "Welcome to our car, stranger, NOT!" greeting, as the ticket might be $$x2 !

I haven't gotten a ticket for speeding since I got rid of my radar detector back in early 2000's. IMO those devices give one a false sense of security and encourage hot foot driving, as seen a lot today.

Eva (a.k.a. "Ma Barker") barked at a Fedex truck that was following us on way home from her last school reading session. She apparently recognizes both the UPS uniform and logos for Fedex and USPS.

No Chance Chicken Thread Chicks will Chase Chooks (Chicas & Chicos) to apply ChapStick to prevent Chilled Combs, or they'll look like Cheesy Chumps!

Solution: Get the CT Roos to do it....
