I'm just stopping in for a fly-by post. MAJOR skimming by me today, I'll have to go back later if I have time and read the posts I didn't have time for today. Or not. Geez, once I get behind, it seems like there's no catching up, LOL!

Our snow event wasn't as bad as they led us to believe. There's a good 6 inches out there and it's still coming down, but I doubt we'll get anywhere close to the 12 to 18 inches the forecast was calling for. And the wind isn't as bad as they said, either, it's only doing about 20 to 25 mph with a few higher gusts, but not 40. And, we have power, obviously. There was shoveling this morning, however, and it wasn't easy, not because there was too much snow, but the ground is warm and it's melting from the bottom. So the first scoop is OK, then the next scoop, on the ground, is wet and slushy and sticks to the shovel. I'ma hafta get my can of Pam and spray the shovel next time.

Missy (our Hairy Dog) is up to her belly in it, but she LOVES snow and doesn't mind it one bit. The chickens are all hiding in the garage or the barns, except for the ones that went in the coop last night, and we left them locked in because there are some large-ish drifts in front of the doors. They got extra food last night and the heater is on their waterer, so they're OK, and there are some baby chicks in there, too, so better for them to stay in today. They can come out tomorrow.

I read someone asking about Vaseline on roosters' combs to prevent frostbite? I know people who do that, and they say it works, but they have only a few roosters, and they can catch them. I've never bothered. The only ones who ever get frostbite are the ones with the big tall combs with points on them, and all that happens is they lose those points. Otherwise, they're fine.

OK, gotta run. I'm sorry I didn't "like" and "thank" all the posts today, but I was seriously skimming. I hope I didn't miss anything important! Hopefully, tomorrow the storm will be over and things can get back to normal here. Right now I'm being overrun by cats who think I should let them outside. One of them did get out earlier and promptly got himself stuck in a snowdrift, and I had to rescue him (sigh...), so this place is on lockdown until it stops snowing, at least.

Colonel Sanders Bio...

At age 5 his father died.
At age 16 he quit school.
At age 17 he had already lost four jobs.
At age 18 he got married.
Between ages 18 and 22, he was a railroad conductor and failed.
He joined the army and washed out there.
He applied for law school, he was rejected.
He became an insurance sales man and failed again.
At age 19 he became a father.
At age 20 his wife left him and took their baby daughter.
He became a cook and dishwasher in a small cafe.
He failed in an attempt to kidnap his own daughter, and eventually he convinced his wife to return home.
At age 65 he retired.

On the 1st day of retirement he received a check from the Government for $105.
He felt that the Government was saying that he couldn’t provide for himself.
He decided to commit suicide, life wasn’t worth living anymore; he had failed so much.
He sat under a tree writing his will, but instead, he wrote what he would have accomplished with his life. He realized there was much more that he hadn’t yet done. There was one thing he could do better than anyone he knew. And that was how to cook.
So he borrowed $87 against his check and bought and fried up some chicken using his recipe, and went door to door to sell them to his neighbors in Kentucky.
Remember, at age 65 he was ready to commit suicide.

But at age 88 Colonel Sanders, founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Empire was a billionaire.
Moral of the story: It's never too late to start all over.

Not so fast MO...no weekend just yet / we are doing the work...before Canada, invents her snow fall.
- Andrew took me to a nice Greek restaurant...when him & I installed new trophy shelves, in his board room (early Spring) & had Junior "A" hockey box seats later...5 minute drive away
- now I Love their salads, with olives, feta cheese, and virgin olive oil
- Mrs makes a good one to, from time to time

Beau & Mrs67 - have taken turns, laying on the leather sectional...with feet beside Kelly.
- while watching Tampa Bay play Houston Astros...for the ALDS MLB
- both feeling the hurt, in our legs
- and Papa had a back injury, over-lifting on minimum wage...at 17 y/o
- so my back got sore, and I switched to a longer roller pole

No rest yet, headed into city tomorrow...BabyBear deck, gets a 2nd and final coat of sealer.
- I told son, Santa Clause better be extra good this year...

Tell me more about your waterer. I hate hauling water in the winter. Mister installed electricity to the coop this summer, so I shouldn't have to haul anymore. Just need to find the right waterer to plug into the outlets at the top of the coop (you know, to keep the chickens from crapping on the cords).

And, I know nothing about this Vaseline thing. Never heard of it before. But, then again, I don't live in South Dakota. I know Kansas farmers put something on the cows' teats, but Kenny type critters have always fared well in my territory without Vaseline.

I just had to run out and put Guz under the carport because it started hailing. Got the crap pelted out of me.

Thanks a lot, Beau! Butt head brother # 2!

Lannie?

I just want you to know that I am going to call you Sis. I am claiming you before Cuz Di tries to corrupt you.

Hang in there with your crappy weather. HR at any Corporation would tell you they didn't pick where you chose to live if you have to call in, in inclement weather.

Just saying.

Cool

Lannie.......I suspect you already know this but .....I am the good one and Stryker is the bad one.
SP has so much to learn.......we try our best to pass our wisdom to her ....but we find that we have to be patient with her ......she is just so ......hummm....shall we say “free spirited”...........
Anyway ......she is probably sleeping now ........or complaining to her Richard that it is cold......just a heads up that this whining about temps will continue till spring. I am writing this now because there will be many posts throughout the day to clutter things up.........and SP aka YKW......aka you know who........(we have many other names for her) she no longer feels the need to back read even though she is the youngest in the coop.........my personal feeling is she should be required to keep up with us or get a ticket ! But thats just my opinion............
So she will probably not see this..........so shhhhhh
Keep this to yourself..........because she’s a real firecracker!!!! Scares me sometimes..........
Meanwhile..........stay safe pioneer woman!!! Glad weather was not a severe as originally suspected.......

Hoss

Good Morning all !
It feels wonderful outside , such a good time of the year in Fla.
Hey Di having re-counting issues already.
No free day here! Have a truck loaded and have to drive couple hours North for a delivery. Then all this winter talk forces me to make a list of all things i have to do just in case one of those winter storms sneaks down. I usually have till December to get the list checked off.
I am free of the the crew today! when the weather cools productivity goes up up! I will at least appreciate all the work they accomplished this week.
If someone does not side track me today , i will just be fixing broken Chit!

Running around the barnyard, catching roosters to apply vaseline, sounds like a prank that old farmers play on new city slickers... just to get a good laugh while watching the chase....
