Oh...TN...that's a lovely present........thank you so much.............nothin like a well manicured lawn..............just go ahead and fire up the smoker for us...maybe a rack of ribs to go !
Thanks my friend.

Curious question for these folks getting ready for snow........why in tarnation is it important to mow the grass before it snows..........do tell.

If you leave the grass tall it has a better chance of getting what they call snow blight in the grass - this is a bad disease for all grasses - signs of snow blight in , the grass will get a white look to it .

So TRUE - KEN ^^ Excellent song choice DOC.

And Papa REASON #2
- Long Fall grass left for the Snow, is bad
- because when the snow banks melt, in the Spring...added precipitation is on the lawns
- making the soil too wet, to ride a mower on...without leaving big tire tracks & depressions
- as the Spring SUN comes out, the tall grass // grows even taller...before 1st cut
- now when its finally OK to get the John Deere garden tractor on, big discharges of cut grass will be left behind
- and now the RAKING chore, is needed

Cut Fall grass short / no raking of grass clippings, in the Spring.

How strange....the weather map I posted changed from the 5AM one to the 5PM one....it's not nearly as impressive. I think the link must go to a map that shows 36 hours from the time you look at it (more or less), not to a specific Friday 5AM one.

So all of your early risers who were on before 5AM might have gotten a chance to see Friday mornings map....if you got on later, you missed your chance.

Sheesh, don't listen to those boys trying to snow you (ha ha, another pun)...

The really real reason for that last minute mowing? If you leave your grass long for the winter, it provides a good hibernation place for snakes (and if it's really really long, the bears will curl up in it for the winter.) Then when spring comes you're overrun with snakes and bears.

Not pleasant.

I think all of the cougars live in Florida (maybe a few in Oklahoma)...though they may be a different species; I'm not sure.

I just saw a couple of white flakes float down out of the sky. *sigh* It's going to be a long winter.

OK--Happy Birthday, birthday girl.

The virtual present--a double rack of meaty pork ribs (BBQ style)--cooked on the virtual smoker--which I'll also send along via non-stop flight to meet you in Virginia (West Virginia?--I forget) that's the whole virtual bag.

Hope you enjoy it.

Bright and sunny this morning in lovely Portland, Oregon--but cold and windy--have to go to the store and bank and library but need to mow the front (yeah--I never did get it mowed the other day) so I guess I'll be doing that when I get back.

Hummm...guess I should put the short sleeves back and pack more long sleeves.
Flip flops back.....more boots !

Hey Scott told me at lunch they now sell moonshine in the liquor stores in West Virginia......excellent x-mas present for my boys.
They have never tasted moonshine...............maybe for once a gift that will not get re-gifted!

The really real reason for that last minute mowing? If you leave your grass long for the winter, it provides a good hibernation place for snakes (and if it's really really long, the bears will curl up in it for the winter.) Then when spring comes you're overrun with snakes and bears.

Not pleasant.
I guess Mel is a quick learner 6-7 - TN- Alan - Mod - lol Sounds like pretty good Bullchit to me ! Snakes lay in it ! LMAO AND MEL - My bestest friend MC DON'T LIKE to hear about Snakes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! might be a little bit more considerate to HER feelings !
