So, we're in for MORE RAIN tonight and tomorrow. Shocking, I know. The crummy part is Sypha and I have a Nosework trial tomorrow, so that's probably not going to go so well. She melts in the rain, and will NOT search. So, that'll be fun? We also have trials on Sunday but the weather looks better. We shall see....

In other news, my parents sort of spontaneously adopted a new dog - puppy, actually - last weekend. Their old dog died within the last six months or so. They haven't had a puppy in about 25 years. All of my talk with them about choosing a breed appropriate to them, taking their time, working with a good rescue group went right out the window, and they made an impulse decision (of course). So this could be...interesting? She's cute, and I'm meeting her this afternoon, but they are in a bit over their heads. I'm hoping they are up for the challenge! I suspect she's a mix of GSD, maybe cattle dog or border collie, or aussie or chow, or something like that.... She came from the Indian Reservation in South Dakota, was barely in rescue a couple of days, and now...here she is! After a few days of being "relaxed" her personality is starting to come out, and I've gotten a few phone calls....we're going to talk about some "keep her busy" ideas, and they start a training class tomorrow, but they have NO idea what they are in for with these breeds OR a puppy! Pray for them, friends

They're promising rain here this weekend, and I hope they're right because we need it bad. On the way home from work yesterday, I saw huge plumes of smoke on the horizon; turns out there was a brush fire which burnt some crops.

Another hot day tomorrow, then it should cool down after the front moves through Sunday.

In other news, tomorrow Mrs. TN and I will celebrate our 32nd anniversary...I think I'm going to ask her to go to Sam's club with me for whatever and on the way home, I'll stop at a jewelry store, telling her I want to get my wedding ring resized (best lie I can come up with at the moment lol) and once we're inside, I'm going to buy her something nice...maybe a forever ring, bracelet, or necklace. Oh, and she's going to get 32 roses as well. Right after that, I'll mention how I'd like to buy a full-frame camera sometime (soon).

I'd love to see pictures. That's Hairy Dog's general mix of breeds, though with Cattle Dog as the primary part rather than GSD, I imagine he looks different.

See post # 20289
So I splurged and did Embark Genetic testing for Ori AKA Harold DogDog AKA Hairy Dog AKA HDD.

THE GREAT REVEAL

Australian Cattle Dog 62.1 %
German Shepherd 16.3 %
The rest is "Supermutt"
Likely contributing breeds
Collie
Chow Chow
American Bully
Border Collie

They show pure Cattle Dog on one side, and German Shepherd, a little Cattle dog and Mixed Breed on the other.

He's 70 pounds, about 24" at the shoulder, hairy (coarse and wiry), and sheds a LOT, mostly guard hairs, not so much undercoat (he actually doesn't have much undercoat) for some reason.

He's a pretty decent dog, quite good actually, though not dobe-like...whoever had him first did a good job of squelching the "how to be obnoxious in the house" instinct.

Except for the mouthing, which is a BIG TIME problem. He crunches down, hard...and I have delicate skin (almost on a bleeding disorder level). We were told that the reason he was turned into the shelter was that he fought with their other dog. He did have tooth punctures on his back and neck, so it looks like they really did have a problem keeping their dogs civil with each other--but I've seen NO dog aggression from him since then. I'm thinking his mouth was a big part of why he was surrendered. Not a beginner's dog at all, solely for that reason.

So if you see any sign of that, help them figure out how to deal with that early (immediately). Once they get past puppyhood, my experience is that it's really a tough behavior to extinguish. Right now, it has settled down to just an over-excitement thing, but how do you keep a dog doing agility from getting excited??

We love your HDD, Mel! He looks the perfect mix for a dog living/working in CO.

Maybe you could establish a new designer breed, naming it something like "Colorado High (Plains) Cattle Dog" which I think would catch on with the current residents there, and make you lots of $$$.

Oh my, thank you so much Spock.

My heart is just so touched by this wonderful and kind thought of sunshine and beauty.
May your mornings be just a beautiful for you......surrounded by beautiful bursts of sunshine.

You did? I might have accidentally blocked you. When did you do this? Crap! I left my phone in Guz. At least I hope it is. Never know these days. Almost forgot it at work, today. Guess I am starting to get CRS.

I'm just jumping in. What did the heck did I miss while I was binge watching?

I'm not going back!

And, I need a vote between fixing chili or spaghetti sauce this weekend.

They are both time consuming and kitchen trashing. You know, all that slicing and dicing and opening of cans.

My vote is chili.

Anyone want to put their vote in? It's supposed to be chilly and raining all weekend. So, "they" say!

How has everyone been?

Cuz?

I checked and you are not blocked and the last text I received from you was a couple of weeks.

Hmm my vote would be spaghetti sauce as I am not a fan of beans! However, you could do a double batch since already doing the work....a bit more and have both If you made non-bean chili might be good

I also love pasta and some nice homemade ciabatta bread and bruschetta followed up with tiramisu

I was wondering if you wore a dust mask...but it looks like your cabin is enclosed and air-conditioned. No pictures of your harvester's chair...is it a leather upholstered lazy boy style recliner??
How's the noise...do you need ear plugs, or do you just crank up the muzak?

Maybe you could establish a new designer breed, naming it something like "Colorado High (Plains) Cattle Dog" which I think would catch on with the current residents there, and make you lots of $$$.
We'd have to do a skin biopsy to get some cells to clone him...he's lacking some bits.

Well... My son finally got finance approval on his home purchase.

It was rough. He makes boat loads of money, but he is one of the principles in his LLC, so they treat it like self employment. Also his wife, who is an oncology (cancer) RN, had been on maternity leave for 4 months. In addition, he had not sold his current residence. Even though he has an equity of around $400,000, they simply looked at his mortgage balance of around $300,000 as a liability.

The final issue had to due with our housing market in Portland. This is a very expensive place to live. The house that he was buying is 1.3 million dollars. It is worth every penny and he can afford it. Way more than I could afford my first home that I bought in 1977 for $29,000.

So... I am glad that it worked out for him.

I want to move to Idaho or Montana! LOL

STJ!
