(raises hand) Now you know two! We live so freaking far from anything, trash service is not available. We have a giant pit to drop metal and glass in, and anything burnable gets burned. When the wind's not blowing...

I hope it's OK I join in here (Ken told me I could!). I obviously haven't caught up on all 880-some pages, and likely never will, so I'm just jumping in here at the end, for better or worse. I have chickens and cows and stuff.

I'm pretty good at weed and plant identification, but that one I've never seen before. It must be an eastern, or at least Florida, type weed. If there's a county extension service office near you, take one in there and they can probably tell you what it is and whether it's toxic or not.

When we moved here to SD, I had to learn a lot of new plants, but because we have property, a county extension agent came out here and walked all over the place with us, helping to ID all the trees and plants, which was a HUGE benefit to us. Anyway, if it's just that one weed, take it in to your local office and they should know what it is.

I think I should know that flower...it looks so familiar and it is so distinctive. But I can't remember its name.

TN...ask Mocha about the walk. I bet she knows the answer.

Lannie, WELCOME!! You should be able to figure us out pretty fast...we go around in circles anyway.

Yes Mel, Mocha knew the answer LOL. And the humidity is a bit lower, at least for a few days so we hit the trails nice and early again

Here's the only pic I took with the camera, just playing around

And a few iPhone pics. It hasn't rained in over a month now, maybe even 6 weeks or more and the water in the lake is really low

And of course I always take pics of my girl

Ken, rich and famous? Really? I'm neither, and have no desire to be famous but, a little more money would be welcome for sure

I think that was what I was thinking of:

Shrimp Plant--there are several things called a Shrimp Plant, but I mean this one:
Justicia brandegeana

Most of the time, it doesn't look quite like that; the flower is more like a spray--well, sorta a bunch of leaf looking things (which I think are mostly red, not yellow-green like in the first two pictures) and then the flower part (which looks like your picture) hanging out

but maybe when it's almost done blooming?

Wiki says this:
Justicia brandegeeana (Mexican shrimp plant, shrimp plant or false hop) is an evergreen shrub in the genus Justicia of the family Acanthaceae, native to Mexico, and also naturalized in Florida.

It doesn't look like the plants in that family are poisonous ???????????

Thank you What would have been nice - if I could have gotten Mocha to sit right against the railing with her ears up, or to stand with her paws on the railing, to get her black silhouette.

It may not look quite right to me since i have a feeling her soil could be getting saturated with spilled beer by this time in the season!

New black kitty on the way. Got to come up with a better name. His current name is Puddles. He's four months old. Gonna have to wait to tell Mister until the cat is already here. Mister is going to be so pissed.

On another subject, which happens to be a rant, my work place is moving us out of the building to cram us in like sardines so they can sell the building I am working in. New building has no decent parking, can't drive anywhere to go get lunch, Shitty traffic route and can't do it in one hour. Farther from home by 8 miles and just, did I say?, $hitty traffic. This will be next Spring they say.

Got to get Rustine up and running so those inconsiderate people can ding her already dinged body.

Have I ever told you all that I hate progress?
LOL, Denny,

Come on--you can joint us Luddite's we have fun on the dark side too...

I'm unbelievably far behind--I only didn't check the CT for two days and now I'm around 5 pages (125 posts) behind--so yes, I'm once again reading backwards.

But I have to post this before I forget about it. Kenny--I was poking around the back channels of the regular on air channels last night looking for something that wouldn't put me to sleep or that I hadn't seen 4 or 5 times already and found a thing called "Creating the Brand".

Couldn't imagine what it was so stopped to look as it was about to start. WOW! my favorite thing--a documentary on how something is made (remember when I told you the whole story about repainting a big airplane?--well this was even better--the brand turned out to be John Deere (Denny should like this too). Specifically it was on the history and making of the Combine Harvester--was shot in John Deer's HUGE plant that make all of the Harvester's of all sizes. (When I say huge plant I was so overcome with the overall dimensions that I forgot them but the paint shop alone takes up 120,000 feet). They went into some detail on the painting of the harvesters (did you know that the undercoat/primer is also JD green and is sprayed on and then baked before they start putting on the topcoat.

They also showed the big computer operated cutters that cut sheet metal to very exact dimensions--and showed a lot of detail of putting all the jigsaw like pieces together.

They also explained how the same harvester with just a change of front end can harvest both corn and soybeans (I thought of you DocK). It was definitely the best hour of television last night.

I may be a dyed in the wool Luddite but I LOVE stuff like that--and the other thing I found to watch last night was a documentary on Jack Daniels and how and why that whiskey is different than all other whiskeys. (And by choice I'm a blended scotch drinker--or rye--don't even drink whiskey.)

And now everyone knows why I'm five pages behind the CT.

ABTLH--and slacker about reading the CT

Doing good Denny! Not Ma, only AB.

Believe me, I noticed-- particularly noticed when you managed to dig up either a song from a group I know or even better a group I've never heard of (you can ask what stone I was living under now and you won't even have to go to the woodshed.)_

Along about page um--890? You'll find out--but for anyone as far behind as I am--I'm trying to catch up with the chicken thread. Got behind trying to help the DCM folk asking questions and the allergy/food guys too.

And if you really want to know LadyDi--the cooler weather inspired me to buy a slab of Chuck Roast and I cooked it today--and it got done when I started to try to catch up here but I needed to go see how it tasted (like I didn't know how it tasted--I've been cooking Chuck roasts as pot roast for at least 60 years--they're GREAT! And so is this one--I even managed to get the carrots cooked (sometimes I fail at how long they have to be in if whole vs how long they need to be in if chopped up some. So anyway--I stalled out when I went to have lunch--pot roast--mmmmmm!)

OK--back to CT and then I'll have pot roast for desert too...

BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Many pages back this subject came up and I think that's when Mel and I decided we must be related (you couldn't pay me to give me a foot massage!)..

But yeah! A good book (or frankly a mediocre book but I'll pass on Tolstoy and I never want to try "Finnegan's Wake" again).

She may be Ma to you all but she's lil' sis or maybe first cousin--something like that.
