LOL bug...

McCoy got his name spontaneously.

It was 2 days before Thanksgiving. We were on the "puppy list" for our 3rd Foxfire dog as Butcher had died earlier that year, We were hoping for a June, July or August pup. It's a pain in the butt raising a pup during our rainy winters.

In any case, I get a call from Michelle S. asking if we wanted a pup from the Rayden and Jewelia litter. Someone had backed out at the last moment for very legitimate reasons. I said "Heck yes!" The only caveat was that I had to pick him up in Sunny Valley the following morning. About 300 miles South.

I told Nancy that I was leaving to go pick up a puppy. She says: "But we don't even have a name yet".

Well, I was the middle of building a display shelf for her vintage McCoy USA pottery. I turned and said: "Yes we do... His name is McCoy. Foxfire's The Real McCoy"

Hopped in my truck. Drove 300 miles. Spent the night in Grant's Pass and picked our puppy up at around 10 the next morning. I had the pleasure of seeing all his littermate and helping MS remove his sutures.

I also got to see Jet, my son's Dobe's sire.

He came home. Slept through the entire night only to wake on Thanksgiving morning. Given how wonderful he has been... Very appropriate.

STJ!

I really liked his name from the first time I saw it--I thought "What a good name for a Foxfire Doberman--they really are the real McCoys--and that was even before I knew that he was a Toad grandson--out of one of the very most beautiful bitches ever bred by Foxfire--the very lovely Jewelia.

Believe it or not, that is normal size. I was fortunate to get close enough with my 100mm macro lens that I only had to do a little bit of cropping to get only the head. I didn't realize I had gotten the eye detail until I viewed the pic on the computer.

I didn't want to start a new thread with this...so I was home the last 4 days with the family being here and when I came home from work today, my wife showed me Mocha's food bowl and told me that Mocha didn't eat her breakfast; it was still there, in her bowl. I looked at Mocha and said, "eat your food" and she immediately gobbled everything down like she was starving.
We talked about it and we're wondering if it was because I was home for 4 days straight and Mocha was pouting because I went to work today? If so, kind of odd because I've had long weekends before and she's never done this before (the not eating).
But, since I came home, Mocha's been extra clingy and affectionate so who knows. Either way, I love that girl of mine

Ma,

You must have seen the same little fill in thing on the news that I did--I pretty much thought the same things you thought and it definitely killed the possibility of any further Bond movies (which even though not really my cup of tea were kind of fun)

And John I beat you by several Bond books (but since I wasn't a prepubescent boy it didn't make any difference)--And I can't even remember the title of the first Bond book but I read them from first to the last of the ones actually written by (whoever the original author was--this is partly gabapentin making me dumb and old age making me dumb and the fact that the first book came out about a zillion years ago).

And here's some entertainment for you--a lot of my life I've worked in jobs that were considered to be "men's" jobs. I was working in a marine hardware store in Marina Del Rey, California and had been working there long enough to crawl up the ladder from cashier to sales in a variety of departments (avoiding clothing and shoes like the plague) and had built something of a reputation in paint, pumps, hardware and line and how to splice it--so I was sitting on the end of the rope counter splicing some dock lines and I could see the cashier pointing me out to a woman. I didn't think it bode very well--I just didn't know how sorry I was going to be that I was sitting in plain sight.

Even with glasses I'm still pretty nearsighted so I didn't recognize the lady until she got very close (there was no way I was going to escape) It was editor of the little biweekly Marina Del Rey paper (The Dinghy) who, to cut a long story much shorter which is all it deserves) wanted to interview me--as some sort of shining star leading the march for women's rights. Oh NOOOOOOO! I told her she didn't want to interview me because I wasn't going to be saying anything she wanted to print if this was about women's rights.

She was pretty determined and wasn't getting my point--I told her in very few words when she asked me how a woman was supposed to break into a male occupation and how had I done it.

DUH? Can you see tis coming--I said that when I went to work for the store I told the manager that I didn't want to stay a cashier but if they'd let him promote a woman into any of the management positions besides clothing or shoes I'd be interested. And I worked to learn enough about the various areas that I could be useful. Yes? Pretty clear? Evidently not--then she asked me how you learned this stuff--by reading stuff and talking to people who did that kind of work. By going to seminars. By talking to guys that would take the time to explain this and that to me so it made sense et bloody cetera. She never got it--she told me that she thought I would be a lot more sympathetic about women trying to break into male dominated postitions.

I still think the women's movement never figured out that you don't go from Karl the mail room clerk to President of G Fig Corp in one jump--and I think in a very real sense that's what was going on--and is still going on but I'm gratified to see television ads now trying to get women interested in some of the trades where practically every one starts out at ground zero and works their way up (and if they are smart don't let themselves get forced into 'executive" type positions about the time they know something.

I was definitely never the role model for women's rights. But that sure was a funny interview.

TN - for a 1st time Dobe owner, I'd say:
Mocha has designated herself...Daddy's heart-Dog... ...girl.
- well done Man, proud Papa

A slight form of SA - I always train for, the unbreakable Bond & connection with family.
...dad outside, dog needs outside
...dad inside, dog needs inside
...dog won't potty, in the rain / unless Dad gets wet to
...won't eat, without a human around
...won't run off, in the woods & get lost
...won't run away, when the front door is opened
...always wants to stick to gets Love, in Life
Big Congrats, Mocha is showing you, just how much you mean to her !!

Bond.....Ian Fleming.

I just happened to turn on the TV the other day; the intro to the movie that was getting ready to play said that Ian Fleming had written the book it was based on.

The book?? Published in three volumes...
Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang

I just Wikied it...looks like there were some incestuous relations between the Bond franchise and the movie Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang...

A film loosely based on the novel was made in 1968, with a screenplay written by Roald Dahl and Ken Hughes, directed by Hughes, Co-Director of Casino Royale. It was produced by Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli, who had made five James Bond films previously. The film starred Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts and Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious, an additional character who was not in Fleming's novel. Two actors from the Bond franchise were involved in the film: Desmond Llewelyn and Gert Fröbe, who played the parts of scrap-dealer Coggins and Baron Bomberst, respectively.

She probably did not eat because you are the best game in town and it is better to be by your side than to eat!

A 'shroom.....

A little more than 8 inches across.

Speaking of which (well, not exactly, but it is a nature thing), we saw the bear again. That's 3 times in the last week and a half. He must have moved in somewhere nearby.

It was utter chaos at your house and she was worried sick about you.

I guess I need to get out and mow the yard more often. At least the dog can't get to this one.

OMG....I just looked at the story a little more closely. It's talking about somewhere in England, but I guess it's sprung up in other places--one of the pictures was taken in COLORADO!!

I asked L&A to explain this weirdness going on in England these days, and NOW I find out that it's happening in my state TOO!!!

Do I owe her an apology, ya think??

No... You need to go by a loaf of Wonder bread, grab a stapler and go join your neighbors!
