Man AJ...

Dogs love ocean beaches. Here in Oregon the beaches are perfect for dogs. Generally the weather is cool, nice breeze. If the tide is not coming in big time, the dogs can play in the water without danger.

Also we have some very accessible beaches with very little crowds.

BTW... STJ! turned 66yo today! (Ugh...)

Edit to say: OOPS! DT unwanted double post. Oh well .... LOL

"Gemini" means twins!

STJ!

First off - My part of the crops is in the ground After much effort ! it took 3 - yes 3 planters to get the job done yesterday ! my 16 row = 40 foot wide - B-I-L's 30 footer = 12 rows and a neighbor that had just got done called and planting right next to me called - said he would pull in and plant a 125 if I wanted to try and get done before the rain they are calling for today - I said knock yourself out and he laughed - they also have a planter size like mine . Put in well over 300 acres and got done around 7 last night - Still have 186 for the B-I-L to plant . Have to move 2 hours drive time in a tractor to the North .

I think - No - I know - We are tried - lol The older I get - I'm less tuff as I once was - lol

Lady Di - Here's a picture of my ----- Planter thingy - lmao

Picture of B-I-L making last pass - last field

Got to get friends !

BTW - Seen last night on the WX channel SATX had flooding rains . Hope Spock , Eva and Lana has dry feet after that

Morning Beau ...thanks for all those PIC's............tell the boys..... I am thinking of them............

Well ...just got my beginners book on 9 things I need to know to about how social security works......went online to study ....eeeeee..gads .......2000 some rules.....and then another rule book even bigger to help explain the 2000 rules.............wishing the CH Intellectuals that enjoy reading ....will figure all this out for me and present a 5 page summary.
Sounds like we need to sell all our chit ...get a bug out bag ......and head to Oklahoma and stay in Ma's room........even though ticks might be in that room now.......or maybe even chickens.............all of that is OK though ....we are team players and will make do until YKW kicks us out......!
BUT ...if we win the lottery .....that will just fix everything...........and I will still take care of my Cuz.........that's just the way I am......just a wonderful person in every way .......

Digging a ditch, for runoff of basement sump pump...in the adjacent field.
- this will get water diverted, off my fence line
- and stop the soggy grass, and the John Deere tractor tires...making ruts, in the lawn

I broke my fathers, old round mouth shovel (wood handle).
- so invested in a new one (C$39 + tax), made strong (a Garant brand)
- our city works, buy this brand of shovel / 50% stronger, than a wooden handle

Kelly always sticks close to Dad - and dot into some fun, rolling around.

Sorry, I'm retired now.......

Yes, lucky injuries were not more than they were.
Would have been much worse if passenger barge had been sunk.

In Europe it is standard practice in port to put fore & aft tugs on tow wires whereas in US docking tugs normally made up alongside vessel on each end, many times with multiple tow wires and sometimes on both sides of bow. Euro version is best for assisting vessels through locks and fast tidal currents (prevalent in that area), but lousy for mooring vessel alongside berth.

Think of control difference between towing a car with a long tow strap (not much) and a tow truck using a hydraulic lift which has positive stop/start/turn control.

Most newer cargo vessels have bow thrusters (like built in tugs) and some have stern thrusters. Most modern passenger vessels have both these thrusters and latest ones have aziopods which are 360 directional main propulsion props, normally two, on stern. (Drill ships have similar, smaller DP Dynamic Positioning thrusters (6) to hold vessel in fixed position during drilling ops- four required to be in operation at any one time)

All tankers in most ports now use escort tugs on stern (on tow wire centerline) to assist in stopping and controlling vessel in case of propulsion or steering loss, until anchors can be deployed. They also help steer loaded tankers at slow speeds (as when passing other vessel's at berths in narrow channels) when ship's rudder has reduced effect.

Whoops...TMI?....

Eva loves to sit out front on her mat while SD does either yardwork, house repairs or in this case, refurb on my retirement project car- 2006 Ford Escape, 2.3L 4-cyl. As mentioned before, I had engine rebuilt in Houston and drove back 200 miles to SATX.

Eva On Guard Watching For Delivery Trucks & Rogue Squirrels

Eva is feeling frisky last couple of days, initiating wrestling with Spocko (usually other way around) and this morning jumping up on Dad's side of bed, usurping Spock's coveted spot. Normally she never does that unless it's thundering outside. We think the Cosequin tablets are helping her with her front foreleg old age arthritis pain. We are now giving daily tablets to Mr. Spock, as well.

Back in Dec 2018, while I was working in garage, a widely known local scam artist drove up into our driveway when Eva was on her mat. This guy's m/o is to pull into driveway, honking horn then ask if any "work" needs to be done, eventually asking for spare cash. Well you can see by the screenshot of my Nest driveway cam, that Eva was in high alert mode. I spoke to the guy and he departed. My DW had made the mistake of giving him some money in 2017 and he frequently returns to the well for more.

I posted this picture and warnings to others on NextDoor neighborhood website and he's pulled the same scam with many other people in area and still continues.

ECIN, it is not nice of you to provide that coyote a map to SP's chickens...Next thing you know, she'll escalate the discussion and send you more rain.

And I don't want to have to separate you two.

Boy, does this dredge up old memories--very old! Back in the day when dinosaurs still roamed the earth I lived on a houseboat next to Foss Tug and Barge at their location on the Lake Washington Ship Canal in Seattle Every Wednesday and Sunday night--between about midnight and 3:00am they brought empty ocean going sections of barges, sometimes, log booms in and out. Eventually I learned to sleep through large men jumping on and off my back deck when some tug had let a barge get too close. The dogs even learned how to sleep through the racket.

(Drill ships have similar, smaller DP Dynamic Positioning thrusters (6) to hold vessel in fixed position during drilling ops- four required to be in operation at any one time)
And I was still going on deliveries occasionally (they had invented the airplane by then) to places in Mexico when I learned to hate the Puerto Vallarto harbor because all the huge passenger cruise ships pulled in there and they used bow thrusters to get out again. That harbor is fairly shallow and the bow thrusters create conditions that try to push or pull all the smaller boats off their anchors (like us--we were usually delivering sail boats in the 35 to 45 foot range)--I got stuck on board alone a couple of times and prayed that we wouldn't drag anchor while the passenger liner was playing with their scary bow thrusters.

Quote:
All tankers in most ports now use escort tugs on stern (on tow wire centerline) to assist in stopping and controlling vessel in case of propulsion or steering loss, until anchors can be deployed. They also help steer loaded tankers at slow speeds (as when passing other vessel's at berths in narrow channels) when ship's rudder has reduced effect.

Whoops...TMI?....
ACK! Thank heavens I know nothing about tankers (except to stay out of their way in shipping lanes)--I sure they have the ability to scare the crap out of me.
