Looking at the comic Frazz today...he quoted Satchel Paige, Black baseball pitcher, contemporary of Jackie Robinson, who played in both the American Negro League and the MLB.

"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?"

Well, anyone, what's your answer?

I found a few more quotes of his for you lot to think upon:

"Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching."

"Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."

"Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you."

Hello.

Ranch update: Finally seeing green. Which after this winter is soooo nice. The first storm that hit us in March was something else. Drifts were horrible. Broke down some big cedar trees in the windbreak. While Scott dug me out with the skidsteer, grandkids sledded off drifts. Been here since 80. Never seen wind like that. East door and south door were drifted as high as the door. Little garage door opened to the inside so I could get a path dug out so SE could go potty. And I had to threaten her to jump the drift so she could get out to potty. Electricity went off for a little while but came back on. Was very grateful for that. Our electric company has been doing a lot of infrastructure. And I attribute new poles, wiring and upgrading helped us that way. We did not get hit like Nebraska did. Have some friends that live North of Kearney along the middle loup river and they got hammered. Lost a lot of hay bales. Had cows up at the place and did lose some to calving, none to flooding. Didn't take their houses or barns or cattle, so they fared better than some with feed losses and cattle and building losses. Some of their neighbors lost everything, houses, barns, cattle, feed. Everything. A lot will be taking keys to houses they no longer have and giving them to their lenders. Sad, Sad, Sad. One of my friends North of Pine Bluffs, lost 49 calves. That will take lots of years to recover from. Hopefully, winter has died for us here. But 2 years ago, had 15 inches on the level in May. So you never know here. Actually we have two seasons. Cheyenne Frontier Days and Winter. Missed more work and more training than I ever had. I80 was closed every week at some point and time. Bad, bad driving conditions all winter. But, it is April and almost May so that is encouraging. I hate when November rolls around as am looking at 6 to 7 more months of horrible weather. That catches me up with my update.

Technically - Larry has always known, how old I am...this relationships, in time.
- since I can remember
- probably not the right answer, though

I have proved my "earliest age recollection" of an early time period / as a 1.5 years old baby.
- my dad Harold picked me up, out of the crib, and placed me beside him in bed
- Mom picked up Twin67, and he was beside her in bed
- this made Larry feel real special & happy / Dad picked me up first...me a Daddy's boy

But Beau has forgotten one of his very own birthdays.
- many others birthdays & most every wedding anniversary

Final Answer:
- I am as old as I feel // and I feel, with my hands / so always young @ heart
- did I win MEL

Well, that doesn't help me...I have old hands.
I've always had big ropey veins and my skin is thin and gets those big red blotches under it (a vague bleeding disorder) and the tendons on the backs of my hands tend to stick out too.

My hands look like they're 80, anyway.

So far, B67, yours is the only entry. So you might win by default. I'm going to accept entries for another day and then decide.
(The prize just might be a get out of the WS free card!!!!)

Missed this one.

Yes, SP, they are expensive.
No, SP, you don't want to price them; the shock might kill you. I'm barely hanging in there.
No, SP, you cannot borrow some money, at least not from me; I don't have any left.

And now they're predicting a slight chance of SNOW on Monday (window install day #1). Or showers, it depends on when the water falls out of the sky. Here's hoping it won't. I do NOT want to delay this install.

The cat and dog need to be locked away while they're installing so they won't jump out (cat) or jump on workers (dog). The ferrets have to keep their smelly little butts in their cage instead of being able to run around on the floor and get some exercise (they're trip hazards) I have to move various furniture pieces away from windows so they can get to them--a very large L-shaped computer desk, tower, 3 monitors and virtual reality sensor thingies, a king size HEAVY bed that has almost nowhere else to go in the room--and remove all curtains and blinds. Not looking forward to worrying about animals getting out, or furniture filling the centers of the rooms, or wide-open views of the house insides...some of the windows are on the front of the house.

Hopefully it will all be done by Tuesday night though.

Thanks Sandy for the Ranch Report - Even though we live on the right side of the Big Muddy - We are all concerned about our small community of brothers and sisters in this type business .

We have had bad snows here - the worse I remember was back in 78 = a blizzard - But that don't happen like it happens in your country . It was heart breaking to watch the news of all the grain bins that opened up from the floods - A friend called one night and said Ken - What would you do ? Where would you even think to start the clean up - My reply was - I would head the lender - throw the keys on his or hers desk and say here --- It's your problem . Yes - I would throw in the towel .

The lose of livestock is another heart breaker ! Work to raise top stock , then in no time - lose it all and breeding stock - I would make me sick to find 49 calves gone ! Most would not understand - other than another producer . That has always been my favorite time of the year - calf season ! lol They are the cutest things - running across the pasture with there little tails standing straight up - jumping and kicking all the way - lol

I seen on our local news that some groups from IN were trucking hay out to NE . Nice - yet it's so small in the big picture .

Glad to hear about the "Green " coming on now

Thanks Sandy - And BTW - Just think Frontier Days - Not winter lol

Ken

If you cannot recall your own time line then you may have other issues , unless you are using the "new math" that is available these days which can allow one to always get to the correct answer! It is a great time to be alive.

I always go to a persons eyes to find their age. They can tell so much more. Even with our beloved dobermans i hope to have one of those wise and content eyed dobes looking at me.

Good Morning All !

Well......actually Doc you are onto something here...as individuals at birth we do not know our age.......BUT....later we do know our age based upon what someone has told us........like birth certificates or family.......

So my final answer is:

I am as old..... as others have told me I am..........

My age fluctuates quite a bit...there are days when I feel old, old, old and others when I feel right sprightly. I find too, that the older one gets, what you consider old gets pushed back a bit. I mean, when I was 20, 45 seemed OLD. Now that it is in the rearview mirror, 45 seems rather young.

I remember my hospital working days when we were handed a list of folks first thing every morning who needed routine blood draws for testing. If you had people older than 60 or so, you groaned a little. "My list is full of OLD people; it's going to be a bad start to the day". It was quite the revelation to me when I realized that my parents were also that age. I wasn't ready to think THEY were old.

The Dark Tower series is good. If you want to try one of his books set in that world, but not really part of the series, The Eyes of the Dragon is a good book.

I also really enjoyed 11/22/63, which isn't terribly "scary" at all, but I found to be a great book, and there's a good series on Hulu based on the book, too.

Mr. Mercedes is another good book that I don't think is super scary, but I enjoyed, and is the start of a three part series, so if you like it, there are more. I believe it's also being turned into a TV mini series.

Rightness is relative. There are some of us who are less right than others.

Not gonna name names or anything.

Except me. I'm always right. Weird, but right.

Funny Scary story from the farm All of us love to prank anybody and everybody on the farm ! Many years ago - we were done for the night it was around 11:30 - when I left dads to head home - I noticed that my neighbor and a guy I grew up with was shelling corn just down the road from us . Let me tell you - after shelling corn all day long - day after day you really get tried and may miss some things going on around you . And even with all the lights we have on the machine - its still hard to see off to the sides of the machine .

Timing is everything ! Kim was just turning on the other end and I parked behind his truck so he didn't see mine - then I just waited - as he now turned on the end row - right in front of me - as he started to let the head down to go back the other way - I ran in from behind - climbed up the ladder and just watched him - he had NO idea I was on the machine - I was near the top of the ladder and when he looked the other way - I ran up the rest of the way - threw the door open and yelled HEY KIM - I think he crapped his pants - his eyes where as big as a silver dollar and he was shaking uncontrollable ! He hit he clutch and we stopped fast ! I was crying laughing as he call me every bad word in the book ! the next day when I drove by he would flip me off ! lmao

News like this travels very fast - lol Took a load into the elevator the next day and everybody was cracking up and said they would have gave anything to see that one go down !
