Good morning Lady Di ! How's everything in the sunshine state ??

current temp here on the farm is 34 with some sleet - wind chill around 25 - overcast as heck .

one good thing is I had to go out to the pick up nd seen my first sandhill cranes headed south bound and down - there was only 11 in the flock . Have seen any all year !

Funny thing - neighbor just called to tell me about some pictures that a neighbor had posted up on face book - a picture of a pair of immature eagles - the same ones I took a picture of a month or so ago - in the same tree . Looks like they may spend
the winter here - I have been watching for them - I just wish I had half the equipment and talent that TN has taking pics !

TN - How about a road trip - then you can stop by and see friends in Fishers ! It's about a 50 minute drive from here ! It's also where we take Ali to her internal Vet - As you know Fishers - it's at 69 and 96st exit .

TN - Where did you see Fleetwood at ? Bankers life ? Downtown Indy ?

Aunt B - I did tape the Garth Brooks show - haven't watched it yet - Wife's S-I-L went to it - its about 3 and half our drive up there - said it was so cold - but was dressed for it - besides - what else Is there to do in Indiana ? lmao

Seen GB at the Indiana State Fair years ago - great show ! My personal top pick concerts we have been to - in no order - are Tina Turner -- Garth - John Mellencamp ---- Seen ZZ Top twice also a good show - personally the Texas World Tour was the best , Reba had a good show - The Indiana State Fair was a great place to go for Show's during the fair - that was until the big storm hit and killed ? what ?11 or so people a few years back , they pretty much did away with the big time shows - sad they did that - all over very stupid people running the fair ! Don't know how many concerts we have seen over the years , but it was a bunch !

Have a great day !!

Everything is good here......weather reports tell us we should be getting some cooler air soon. Hope so ..its real muggy-foggy- warm.......anyway had a great weekend with all the partys with my kids......the 40th B-Day bash with my son was a blast.......boy was his head hurting the next day.......as he attended the Buccaneers game is Tampa.........he does not know this yet but he won a drawing .....on December 30 we (Buccanners) have a home football game.......before the players enter the field we have these people that run out before them with some kind of signs???.........so as a surprise ...his wife put him in for the drawing and he won......he will be carrying one of those signs ....but he will not find out until 12/30 the day of the game.......so he will get to REALLY feel the energy of that game on 12/30 as he stands in that hallway with the players waiting to enter the field...............he absolutely loves the game .....as for me ......finishing up christmas presents for the grand kids .......mostly bikes and dolls.......
Saw a dude on TV last night from Virginia....saw him in his combine ......complaining about HIS cost of having to store his soybeans.....while he waits for decisions about this and that..........hope this is not impacting you to much.......
given my farming experience thus far this is my interpretation of the soybean problem: Once harvested....all the beans are stored in a place so they will not spoil ......while they remain stored farmers have to pay for that storage.......farmers need someone to buy the darn beans pronto to eliminate the farmers from going in the hole over storage fees.
So set me straight Doc.....whats the soybean scoop-poop...........

Dog food recalled over potentially toxic levels of vitamin D, FDA says

At least eight brands of dry dog foods are being recalled after the FDA said the food could contain toxic levels of vitamin D. In an alert issued Monday, the FDA urged owners to stop using the recalled products.

The FDA said that after vets had received complaints, testing found that samples of the dog food contained potentially toxic amounts of vitamin D. The FDA said the only pet products that have been impacted are food made for dogs.

The affected brands include: Nutrisca, Natural Life Pet Products, Sunshine Mills, Inc., ANF, Inc., Lidl (Orlando brand), Kroger, ELM Pet Foods, Inc. and Ahold Delhaize.

Excess vitamin D can cause vomiting, appetite loss, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss. Toxic levels of the vitamin can cause kidney failure and death.

For a full list of recalled pet foods, visit the FDA website.

Illnesses related to the food can be reported through the FDA's Safety Reporting Portal or by calling FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinators.

Earlier this year, four companies recalled pet food over salmonella fears.

Our friends are no longer in Fishers; they took a job over in South Korea and the concert was at Bankers Life, October 2014.

Here is a raw footage of the storm that hit the fair grounds at Indy - I was watching the tv and had the NWS radar up on this storm coming - I for the life of me don't know why people did not take cover - you could see it coming - I remember one person that was interviewed that was on the track said they had been there since when to get a front row view and didn't want to lose it ! I will say that we have been to the fair and seen a big storm coming and we headed for the pickup - why wait for it to hit ?

Forgot to answer your question Di -- You must have been watching Lester last night - as I too saw that video : )

I will try and keep it short and sweet here -- Most farms storage it set for corn - plus there are a lot more bus. to handle + drying it for storage . We are no different here - lots of beans go to town ( elevator ) - and put on storage - correct term is called DP = deferred pricing - the elevator charges so much a bu. per month for that - so the longer you wait to price - the more the DP charge = the less you get for your beans - it don't take long to rack up a good DP charge . I need to back track here - The reason to put your grain on DP - in simple terms - you think the price will go up . Example - 99.9 % on the time - the bean price will be the lowest at harvest - as there is a flood of all the new beans coming in - As that ends + exports the extra beans start to disappear and the price go's up to get farmer to sell on farm stored beans - Last year - I sold beans for 10.45 a bu. this year there around 8.80 - I have close to 20,000 on farm now - so you can do the math - that is a big hit in gross sells . Then there is corn - it has also took a big hit in price - local is 3.50 bu . last year I sold most in the 4 to 4.14 per bu range X on farm around 70,000 bu - again - you can do the math - then add the two together ! Beans and corn = what ? close to 80 grand ?

I just love living on the edge

- I brew coffee, with filtered reverse osmosis water / always get a premium taste

The BUNN is tops, in single K-cup coffee machines.
- stainless steel & tough plastic construction
- easy to use, cup capacity (oz) small though // so make 2 cups, to start morning
- Beau likes McDonald K-Cup coffee / buy them by the box, at Costco
- and a man, drinks his coffee BLACK

Best coffee m/x & most reliable, in 12 cup machines.
- we never use the bean grinder, just Kirkland Medium Dark Roast grinds
Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker

LOL--Beau, I don't like reverse osmosis water--it tastes 'dead'--was on a boat delivery years ago and the fresh water tanks got a load of contaminated water coming up from the Panama Canal--we picked up the bot in Puerto Vallarta--and all water was produced from the reverse osmosis unit carried in the life raft supplies0--ICK!

Portland (like Seattle and several other PNW cities has water shed water so pure that it gets very little treatment before it reaches the city water supply)

Anything by BUN is great as far as I'm concerned. I've got a little BUN grinder that I bought on sale in the 70's--$10--I'm still using it to grind beans.

I make great coffee but prefer a medium roast and my favorite is Columbian Supremo. I'm not a guy so I drink coffee black sometimes, and sometimes with cream and sometimes with flavored creamer.

I don't use the commercial bean grinders found at stores I buy whole beans and grind what I need daily--using an ancient drip pot and a tea kettle to heat the water.

Here's some cheap entertainment. I do a lot of puppy ears--I don't charge anything for it 'cause I figure it's just a pay back for all the folks that helped me with my first Doberman back in 1959 and the help I got for other things over the years. But I've gotten some remarkable gifts from the people who I taught to post or posted puppies for them over time.

Couple of years ago the couple I was teaching ear posting to made and sold home made organic salsa--brought me a big selection of it--got some great stuff.

The puppy I'm posting now belongs to a couple who roast coffee--so he's been bringing me beans custom roasted--talk about good coffee--mmmmmmmm!

Our next one won't be a Kuerig. They work great right up until they don't, which is usually right after the 1-year warranty runs out. I'll keep this one in mind.

Half my life - LOL! Yeah, I liked it. But I also knew when I had enough and when it was time to come home. I didn't want to end up like one of those grumpy expats who complain about everything and everyone yet continue to live there, and believe it or not, I really wanted a Doberman and had been waiting for a long time and that was one of the reasons for coming home when we did.

I can hear you now laying the guilt trip on your poor little dobe when she's "accidentally" broken a house rule ....
"You terrible animal--I came ALL of the way home from KOREA just so I could have you, and now you do THIS to me!"

Poor baby...

Coffee...I like the way it smells when it's brewing, hate the taste. My ex used to grind his (carefully chosen) coffee beans fresh every morning and then use them in his french press. It still tasted like....coffee

So you guys asked for this, but a long time ago, so I daresay you've forgotten (and hoped I would too )....

New Tree, in all of its colored lights glory.

Which is smaller but still has the same number of ornaments and amount of tinsel, so it is a bit crowded. And I'm not sure whether I like colored or white lights better. It IS nice to have a change once in a while. Actually, I can change this one from colored to white lights, or flashing lights (fast or slow) or fading from dim to bright and then back again or even blinking off and on while changing from white to colored (which looks extremely tacky IMHO)

Anyway....

My feelings are super hurt.

Why would someone want to avoid the CT?

LOL

And, here I thought I was knowledgeable regarding farming just because I worked three harvests at a grain elevator!

I was very grateful when the silo came in! Much easier on the ears when collecting samples!

Aww!

The memories!

Sure wish I could have made a living wage at that job.

That job was a blast!
