I didn’t know ANYTHING was legal in Portland. Gotta qualify that...of the weapons kind.

You get a gold star. Not real gold. A sticker. What my son used to get for not making too much noise inside the house.

Only....are you sitting on the patio while you read this thread aloud (to help your reading comprehension)?

If you’re inside, maybe I need to take that gold star back.

Yes, from "Forged in Fire"

SP, you lost. Tricked by the keel part.

Synopsis:

It is a competition starting with four blacksmiths who have to forge a weapon (within six hours total; you get to “watch” parts of how they do it) from a lump of steel (weird things like rusty old lawn mower blades, ball bearings, bicycle chains, car parts, metal pieces of junk or steel cable, for example) to make a finished blade. Often the smiths are also required to use a specific method to make the weapons.

The weapons are tested and critiqued by three judges (of course with their entertaining, yet educational comments during the process--it's TV after all), but it’s interesting when they point out good and bad techniques and what the strengths and weaknesses of each blade are.

Each competition (four to two, and the finals) starts and finishes in one hour long show, so you don’t have to watch a long drawn out competition week after week to get to the finals.

Eventually there are only two smiths left for the finals--they compete with each other to make a particular weapon they are shown--actual historical weapons--some are really cool--like these:

Others are more traditional weapons like the claymore, the roman gladiator, a cutlass, or a sabre.

Doug Marcaida, a martial arts, edged weapon specialist, is one of the judges who test the weapons as they were designed to be used historically. He is the “it weel keeel” guy.

End of synopsis.

I thought you gun people might enjoy it.
Dagnabbit! I didn't win.

I really don't want a gun.

I do need protection.

Dagnabbit.

I feel like a turtle in the road, right now.

Yeah Larry... Canadiens are always a day late and a dollar (well...25%) short.

Just teasing. Growing up in Detroit, crossing the border was no different than going from Michigan to Ohio. Still....

a) Soooo Very True BJ...story of my Life.

b) As a teenager, you had to like going to Windsor, with a legal drinking age of 18...back in the old days.
- that's was better than MI or OH. trips...and not getting served
- and our 25% less dollar value, let your US$ buy more cheap drafts (up here)
- plus Canadians have better made beer, not that watered down American stuff...LOL...without the full bodied taste
- maybe why it costs more / and some of our Southern neighbors, like to get their hands on it...for special occasions

Yup! I am buying your bull tonight! It is true. Windsor was a basically suburb of Detroit. We did not even think of it as being a different country. Once in a while, crossing the Ambassador Bridge, the little guys in blue coats would ask to see your drivers license. On the way back into the US, they would look at your Michigan plates and wave you on.

Times have changed.

When I tried to cross the border to BC (from Portland) in 1971, I was detained, for no reason, and put on a bus back to Blaine WA. Apparently, they thought I was a draft dodger looking for Canadian refuge. They were only half right! LOL.
I was not looking for refuge.

I remember coming back from Canada at the west end of Lake Superior.

Our car was absolutely stuffed with camping gear--just had a little hole for me to sit in the back seat and the two guys (my ex and his best friend in town for a visit, so they rode up front to chat easier) had their little holes in the front--slightly larger for the driver.

Poor border guard looked like he was supposed to stop us and look through the car, but saw the jam-packed car, sighed and waved us on.

Another trip through Canada, traveling with my first dobe and ex in our “sports” car (mid 70’s Toyota Celica hatchback). The dobe liked to lie upside down between the front bucket seats and brace his front feet on the ceiling. From the outside, it looked rather like a pair of deer legs sticking up from between the seats. Saw a hitchhiker....he stared incredulously at us as we went by and lowered his hand--never mind--don’t need a ride after all.

We wouldn’t have picked him up anyway.

@ B67

In 1969, they called a glass of beer a "shell". It cost 20 cents. A house drink was 75 cents.

@ The Brod

In 1972 it was illegal to hitch hike of the freeways in the state of Washington. I saw 2 guys about to be sited just outside of Spokane and told the cop that I would give them a ride.

We stopped to eat at a local diner. Me, with hair down to my middle back and these dudes from Chicago looking like John Lennon. Well, that went over like a f**t in a church pew. It was like the scene from Five Easy Pieces! They reserved the right to refuse service to anyone. We left intact. They got stoned and I dead headed to PDX.

My cold remedy is to stay in bed for one day, the moment I have any cold symptoms. Works pretty well--my symptoms are gone today.

The main problem I have with colds is a lingering cough (bronchitis) I get for 3-ish weeks after the rest of the cold is gone. xzfrrrrr....sorry, cat tried to take a nap on my keyboard. Though his typing makes more sense than mine sometimes. You should see it before I go back and correct all the mistakes. Though cat helps ,e wirh thosr too; i’m rdued to one handone finger tying. That’s one reason I fall behind on this thread.

Anyway, as I was saying prior to the last riff (definition--aside from the obvious...2. a rapid energetic often improvised verbal outpouring; especially : one that is part of a comic performance. 3 : a succinct usually witty comment. Though how you can outpour succinctly is beyond me), it’s a sign of occult asthma I’ve been told.

SP - suggest you start feeding some wedding cake to the girls, with their stone grits mix.
&/or some bridal photos, posted in the hen house, wouldn't hurt either.
- young chickens got to get in the mood, to lay them eggs
Who is Tim and why are you snorting his coffee?

Have we met Tim, yet?

YOU SO FUNNY
SP - haven't traveled North much, I guess...a home town gal.

PS - I was a Toronto Maple Leaf hockey fan, in the 1960's and Tim Horton was a decent player.
- they won a few Stanley Cups
- after his death and before his coffee shops became populated, all over Canada's landscape...from coast to coast
- Tim's widow sold her family interest in the struggling coffee chain, for only $1,000,000
Now an 11.4 billion franchise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Hortons Inc. (known internationally as Tim Hortons Cafe and Bake Shop, colloquially known as Timmy's or Tim's) is a Canadian multinational fast food restaurant known for its coffee and donuts. It is also Canada's largest quick service restaurant chain; as of December 31, 2016, it had a total of 4,613 restaurants in nine countries.[3][6][7][8]

It was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade (1934-2009), after an initial venture in hamburger restaurants.[9][10] In 1967, Horton partnered with investor Ron Joyce, who assumed control over operations after Horton died in 1974. Joyce expanded the chain into a multimillion-dollar franchise. Charade left the organization in 1966 and briefly returned in 1970 and 1993 through 1996.

On August 26, 2014, Burger King agreed to purchase Tim Hortons for US$11.4 billion;[11] the chain became a subsidiary of the Oakville-based holding company Restaurant Brands International on December 15, 2014, which is majority-owned by Brazilian investment firm 3G Capital.[12]

Should work against dogs.

Gotta go now---I think Iím catching a cold. The amount of energy I have to use to keep up here should probably be reserved for healing. And I donít need the stress.
Good video, however the coyote I saw wasn't as furry as that one. Mine was more solid and defined.
