I'm here. I had to take a couple days off a while back because I took something personally and I was cranky. It's better I stay off the computer when I'm cranky. But then the blizzard... It was bad, but we've had worse. We lost power for a little while, but not bad. It's just that I get so stressed. We don't have wood, so our only heat is electric space heaters, and when the power is out there's no heat. Also, no water, which stresses me out even worse.

But before the blizzard hit, I had to get my girls (the cows) over to the big Angus ranch for breeding. The older one, Cricket, has a 5 month old foster calf on (Oliver), so he's of a significant size now, and with two adult (1,500+ pounds) cows and the steer, there wasn't room in our little 3-horse slant trailer, so I had to decide which one to take. I decided to take Morgaine (Cricket's daughter) since she's dry and by herself. I'd worry too much about Cricket if she got stranded at the neighbor's for any length of time. So Morgaine went visiting and Cricket and Oliver stayed tucked nice and dry in their barn during the blizzard. We go pick Morgaine up today. I put a patch on her butt before we took her (a scratch-off thing so when the silver coating is rubbed off, you know the bull was up there <wink>). Anyway, the neighbor called day before yesterday and said her patch was bright shiny pink, so she's bred. Calving due date next September! YAY! I'll be back in milk again! (Right now, Oliver is taking all of Cricket's milk and we're drinking crappy store milk, ugh.)

Then yesterday was my birthday, and I ended up spending almost two hours on the phone with my sister. She's a cop in St. Helens (Oregon), and we don't get a chance to talk much, except on our birthdays, so we have to do all our catching up then. Rich made me his famous frying pan meatloaf and potatoes (OMG it's good and I only get it once a year!), and instead of making myself a birthday cake (Rich doesn't bake), I decided to use some of my canned apples from last year and make an apple crisp. It was WAY better than chocolate cake, and for me to say that, really means the apple crisp was excellent! It's so simple to make, I don't know why I don't do it more often...

Meanwhile, during the almost-two-day blizzard, we still had to trudge out and do chores twice a day, which was MISERABLE because the wind was blowing fine snow right into our faces as we walked north to the barns. It was like being sandblasted. I couldn't look where I was going, so I had to take quick glances to see that I was still headed in the right direction, then put my head back down and try to watch where my feet were going. Rich followed my footsteps so he didn't get lost. The blizzard finally blew itself out Sunday morning, and the sun came out, so he fired up the Bobcat and started working on clearing paths. It was really deep on Saturday, but Saturday night the wind picked up harder, and blew a lot of the snow south onto our neighbor's hill. When we went out for evening chores on Saturday, the snow was up to my knees, but by Sunday mid morning, it was only about 8 to 10 inches deep. The wind is formidable here, to say the least.

So finally, by Wednesday afternoon, Rich had cleared out the driveway and the gate, and managed to clear enough of the area down by the cow pen that he can get the pickup and the trailer backed in there to unload Morgaine when she comes home this afternoon.

Anyway, I've been having a very stressful time, but now I feel better. I had a cocktail last night while Rich was making me dinner, and I felt like such a slacker. I was just sitting on the couch, smelling the wonderful dinner smells and waiting for it to get ready. I only have a couple (maybe) drinks a year, so just one took the edge off nicely and I was finally feeling warm and fuzzy. And now at least one of the cows is pregnant, so I know there will be a calf and milk next summer. Unless the weather bamboozles us, Cricket is going to visit her beau next weekend (the 13th or 14th) and she always gets pregnant on the first try, so if we can get her over there, I'll have two calves and twice as much milk next year. Oh, the cheese and butter! I really hate having to buy that stuff at the store. Especially when I have two perfectly good milk cows here. Jeez...

Anyway, I'm sure a lot more stuff happened, but those were the high points that I can remember right now. I hope I can stay sane for a little while before my next period of stressed crazy.

Oh, I got some pictures of Rich moving the snow so if I have time later today, I'll download those to my hard drive and post them here.

How do you guys embed pictures in your posts? No matter what I try, mine always end up as thumbnails that need clicking in order to see. Well, I guess you'll have to click them if you want to see them.

Hmm mine showed up big size when I click it, yours were small pics (are the originals small size?) I clicked on "Manage Attachments" browsed to where the pic is on my HD, then clicked on upload. Then I clicked on "close this window" and clicked submit reply.

Here is a sticky thread tutorial on how to embed pics

And happy birthday

Lannie, your originals are only 240x180 pixels, which, unless your using TN's Scooby Doo digital camera, is not a normal sized pic.

Well, I know it wasn't me that said anything nasty so I won't apologize--for myself. Those other guys here? Yeah, well......

Once you get your thumbnail up there, you can click on it and then copy the address code for that enlarged picture. Paste it here, wrap it with [img] [/img] tags and it should show up as a larger picture. Of course, like folks said, your pictures were kinda small to begin with.

HTML Code:
[img]https://www.dobermantalk.com/attachments/non-doberman-animal-talk/111907d1575641285-girls-outside-12-02-19-blizzard-04.jpg[/img]

But here's the cardinal thumbnail done the same way:

HTML Code:
[img]https://www.dobermantalk.com/attachments/non-doberman-animal-talk/111909d1575642100-girls-outside-019_8217.jpg[/img]

Of course, then you may end up with a picture that's too large. That's why a lot of us use Flickr or imgur to get a code that will display the picture in an appropriate size for this forum

We missed you while you were living with blizzards, no power and no water (and trying to figure out which cow to take to the bull).

And I miss my Toad--but I was very lucky and had him for 14 years so I can't complain, except that my house (to say nothing of my heart) was empty with not a singly dog.

So I went to a Obedience/Rally trial and in talking to a friend I ended up borrowing her puppy (at the moment she has an overabundance of dogs, people, chickens--some other livestock--maybe goats and ponies) so he's at an age where he keeps me very busy--don't have enough time to think about Toad (who remains the elephant in the living room and a lot of people won't even talk to me because their afraid they might say something about Toad and make me feel bad.

For the record--talking about my Toadie actually makes me feel better.

So very glad to see you back...

Mrs. TN and I ran some errands, stopped at KFC to grab some chicken for lunch and dinner (I can't remember the last time I had some KFC), and then at Kroger I picked up a pack of pork country style ribs which I'll make in the oven tomorrow because I have a craving for BBQ...oh wait, I ALWAYS have a craving for BBQ

Toad's first show was in a 6-9 puppy class--I couldn't go to that show but a friend was taking pictures. They were pretty hilarious.

He was 8 or 9 months old and he'd been a puppy who had most of his height at 6 months--it was just a good thing that there were a couple other very big for their age puppies in that class with him. He was 28" at 6 months and only grew another 1/2" and then stopped (thank heavens). It was a summer show and they want me off this computer--he won the class but spent a lot of time either trying to jump on Michelle or play with the puppy behind him whose handler was cracking up.

At that age he looked very much like a yearling colt--all legs and a peanut body--and fawn--so he stood out.

Gotta' go

WELL!!

Since you'd like to talk about Toad, how about a few of your favorite pictures ?? (I bet someone here could help post them somehow) Of course, I guess you never know where they might end up on the web (I swear people steal cute pictures of nice dogs....my picture of Kip in his bunny costume is floating around online; I still see it from time to time), so they'd have to be for public consumption and not...uh...lewd or something , but anyway....
