That's sorta scary, but would be a great title of a new and bizarre DT Thread !!

I'm sure it would probably rival and overtake the CT in no time....

I don't know how long--this is sort a thing of convenience for both his breeder/owner and me--she has a houseful of dogs, people, a yard full of chickens as well as goats maybe or ponies. She has two bitches--one the mother of Joey and the other bitch who saw fit to discipline him for something which caused mom to try to kill the other bitch. Now both bitches are claiming Joey and it's not working out well. His owner will be spaying his mom in a couple of months and we hope that Joey's absence and then the spay of one of the bitches will allow them to get along (as they always have before),

Mel---no it's not a loan with option to buy--but it's definitely just what I need for the moment. He's a nice puppy--sweet but like all puppies at this particular age he really needs a lot of attention--and I definitely can use that to take my mind off of dogs who aren't here any more.

That sounds so perfect! Glad you have the antics of a puppy to keep you busy and entertained. I sure hope the two bitches can work it out at his home...we all know those fights can be really awful!

Oh Kenny, you just kill me sometimes--I know if you think about it you'll remember that I'm the one that doesn't accept Dobersharking. It's never taken me more than a couple of weeks to convince puppies that their teeth (or for that matter their open mouth) should ever, EVER, touch human skin--especially mine.

His potty training though is pretty complete--if you know his signals he'll let you know when he has to go out to pee and I discovered yesterday that if I don't get that he needs to go out to poop--he barks at you (at least he barked at me. He makes it through an 8 hour night just fine.

The first night he had a full blown melt down hissy fit (his crate is beside my bed)--it lasted for all of 3 minutes and then he went to sleep--I got him up at 10 to go putty and put him back in his crate--he sighed heavily once and went to sleep.

And I've since discovered that what he wants to do after both breakfast and dinner is take a nap. Feed him, go back to bed with him loose in the bedroom and about 5 minutes later he climbs into his crate and goes to sleep.

He also already knows how to bark at and chase the squirrels out of the yard--man, a dog after my own heart.

He's here with me in the room with the computer--Leon just came in and quivering with his attempt not to play bow at or on Leon he earned several "Good dog Joey's" and a small treat.

Progress is being made...

His owner/mom is pretty fond of this puppy (justifiably so--he's pretty cute and tries very hard to be good) I think the only thing that would keep him from going back home would be if the first Dobe (an intact male. Toad's nephew--Elvis, now 8 decided not to accept him.)

Routine visit, which is what we strive for....no excitement!.

After dropping off book bin and my visit bag in library, before getting first student, we came across a special needs student, Alexa, with her teacher. She pulled back when she saw Spock come in and teacher said she was afraid of dogs. Librarian and teacher and I all showed this student how to pet Spock and demonstrated, then Alexa joined in! This was a breakthrough for her. There is another special needs boy at this school that is deathly afraid of dogs and will climb up onto the teacher when sighting Spock or Eva in hallway. We just duck into nearest classroom when encountering this student.

I'll speak to school admin about having a meetup with these special needs students at some point this school year, hopefully to reduce their fear of meeting dogs.

In real life - they take a gene from a plant that is resistant to a disease and put into another plant that is not - lets use corn as a example - there are corn plants they take a gene and put into that plant for resistant's for root worm - which is a protein - rootworms eat on the roots and then die - What this tech has done is save us from using a insecticide to control the worms , What that has done is save's us from using millions and millions of pounds of insecticides - using insecticides is like using a shotgun - it kills a wide area of bugs - both good and bad , which is hard on the environment . GMO's have also saved us from spraying fungicides used to control plant diseases -- also better for the environment .

Anytime we can cut the use of any plant health chemicals - its a win , win . Now there is all the talk about Roundup and cancer - I have no idea on if it does or don't , I have used lots and lots of roundup over the years - there are labels that tell us how to use the product and the safe way to use it . Where I think this all went bad for roundup was they started selling in Walmarts - Lowes - everywhere - I have seen people Appling it bare footed and then walking in it ! Spraying it and letting kids then walk in it while its still wet - there is a re-entry period on all chemicals - some may be hours - so may be 12 to 24 hours before you can re-enter a field or even lawns , notice that if you have your yards sprayed - they will put a flag in it to let your know they did it . My belief is lots of misuse has lead to some of the problems . For me - I have to go to recurrent training classes - for me - I have to have 20 hours of class room or in field study in 5 years - most times in my 5 year period , my hours are close to 40 to 45 hours - I have both personal and commercial license's for Indiana - How many hours of training does Joe Blow have that buys - say roundup at a big box store ?

Now lets look at Non GMO - so how are the bugs - diseases controlled ? If you guessed by spray - then you are right ! But for what ever reason - some would rather eat them because they are safer = Non educated on the difference between the two ! Then there is Organic ! So how do they put there fertilizer on a field to support the plants ? They use manure ! spread over the top sometimes - so I guess that's where the saying comes from - this tastes like chit comes from - lol but the problem is bacteria from the manure and not cleaning of the finished product before eating it - like lettuce !

In final - The ag community has did a terrible job in educating the general public on the foods we raise - I can say from my stand point that America Farmers take great pride in the food we raise , and that we eat ! Our friends , family's , pets all eat it . I'm just say 'n' here - if we thought it is that dangerous - would we feed it to out love ones ?
Dang!

Well said, Kenny!

I luvs you!

What did the farmers use back in the Little House on the Prairie days?

I believe we've gotten to this point because people have become greedy, self-centered and lazy. And, they have taken God out of everything.

I feel a rant coming on, but will try to contain it.

When a property developer buys a plot of what used to be farmland, I get sick to my stomach.

You can see why Spock was staring at Maddie and drooling during the visit, she's so gorgeous! The little chocolate min. poodle(?) is appropriately named "Hershey"

It's so neat when you have a chance to teach a kid not to be afraid of dogs (or any other animal, for that matter.) And as a dog lover (especially of a "dangerous" breed like a doberman), it feels so good to be an ambassador.

I was at a dog park with Capri puppy--she was probably 5 months old--and she barreled right over a three year old (I mean, who brings a 3 year old to a dog park and lets him wander around unattended?) as she tore off into the distance after something. I saw the kid start to pucker up and saw mom heading over out of the corner of my eye, so I picked him up (he wasn't physically hurt, just scared, I think) and babbled at him in a fun way about that silly puppy who just RAN RIGHT over him...KABOOM!

And he giggled and that was that.

The parents who rush up and start in with the "OMG, are you alright!! That MEAN dog, did he hurt you??" drive me nuts. It's just setting those kids up to be afraid of all dogs.

Good morning Di Just a little cool here - 27 -BUT no wind -- so not bad out .

Will attempt to finish up tax work today - Maybe ! lol

I personally think what SD And Spock do is fantastic - It has to feel so rewarding when SD comes home !

As far as a gift for Scott - 2 ideas - !!!

1. A bumper sticker that says ------------ Virginia is for Lovers

2. Have him lay down - then have him roll over on his back and give him a belly rub like you do Hoss

No Charge !

Somehow reminds me of those fake arms and legs people hang out of their trucks at halloween. Sure to get a call to the police by some gullible person.

Wellllll....actually I hadn't been to bed yet. Went to bed at 7 AM (and I'd be fine with Hairy being there, but he won't come in my bedroom, for some reason. Something in his past, I guess) and got up at 9:30 AM. So I'm a little short today (in sleep, but if you guys push me, my temper might be short too LOL)

Eva StMU Visit Today Update

Completed 2nd of 3 college visits today around 3PM!

All went great!

Eva- Perky, Snooping in Fog Upstairs This Morning Before Leaving for Event

This was only Eva's 2nd group visit and her first to the St. Marys Univ. campus.
Due to a handler illness, only two other teams were there.
One was a male Aussie shepherd type, "Stormy" and the chocolate min poodle, "Hershey", who was at the UTSA event with Spock on Tues.

Here is Instagram post with a few pics, although blurred of Eva and students.

One can tell the students were really enjoying the dogs!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B5tCjQBH9pW/

About (150) students dropped by to visit the dogs and just loved Eva. She was loving and affectionate throughout the long 2 hours we were on campus. We'd perform some obedience tasks and tricks with treats periodically to perk her up. Eva is surprisingly better than Spock at the group events, as he gets a little too laid back and calm! Eva stays more perky and attentive to surroundings. Eva scored some McNuggets on way home as reward!

One more college visit next week for Spocko, (during finals studying).

Being petted by and smelling that many people at one event is extremely fatiguing for a therapy dog, so I leave you with.....

.....Miss Eva Totally Wiped Out After Getting Home!!

Sunny and 61 today, tomorrow is my Friday off so (drum roll please) YES it's going to rain! Blah! But at least I won't be at work so there's that. Depending on the weather, I'll probably get a lot of reading done (I'm on book 2 of the Liveship Traders ) I'm really hoping it's not raining in the morning so Mocha and I can do our hike!
