Caeruleus Great Danes - Anyone have experience with them?

I would post this question on the Great Dane forum, but threads on specific breeders are not permitted.

Anyway, this breeder is located in South Carolina. They have really nice looking dogs, and they clearly show their animals (quite a few Champions on their page). I recently contacted them about health testing and cost of companion puppies and I am awaiting feedback, but in the mean time...

Anyone have any experience with these folks?

The Doctor: It's not the robots, it's the people. Dressing them up and giving them silly voices. You're reducing them.
Roman Groom: Yeah. Friend of mine, she made her domestic robot look like a dog.
The Doctor: Ah, well, dogs. That's different.

Are you looking for show or pet or?? I know nada about them but looking at the pedigrees they have very few CHs in them. I would ask a GD expert about the structure if you want show. They seem straight in front and rear to me, BUT I'm not an expert. Here is the illustrated standard:

Great Dane Club of America Great Dane Illustrated Standard

Edited - sorry just re-read and you said companion. If you search www.offa.org they have quite a few dogs tested in their database.

Thank you!

Their website had limited info, but I thought I saw several CHs. They are also GDCA mentor and an AKC breeder of merit.

I guess I will learn more if and when they get back to me.

AKC breeder of merit isn't what it's cracked up to be. It's not bad but this is all that's required. It's a bare minimum and it's good but nothing magical per se:

Requirements
•Has a history of at least 5 years involvement with AKC events.
•Earned Conformation, Performance or Companion event titles on a minimum of 4 dogs they bred/co-bred.
•Member of an AKC club.
•Certifies that applicable health screens are performed on your breeding stock as recommended by the Parent Club.
•Demonstrates a commitment to ensuring 100% of the puppies produced are AKC registered.

I don't know anything about that breeder however I did find a breeder referral list on The Great Dane Lady's site.

She does state that you should still do your own research but that she only lists breeders who have made notable contributions to the breed.

You'd think after all the time I have spent on this forum I would have an easier time identifying reputable breeders.

Oy!

Desy, do you know anyone in the Dane 'world' ?

can you get to a show and ask around about them too.

off to take a look at ................. Caeruleus Great Danes........

wow, the great dane club of America has a Mentor list, interesting........... http://www.gdca.org/mentorslist.html

Desy, question, is it that you like the Blue danes, or are you just wanting a good dane of any color?

Almost* any color would be fine, as long as the dog was from a reputable breeder. I have a preference for black, mantle or fawn, in that order.

I also don't require a puppy if a breeder has nice older dogs available to rehome (I'd be willing to take in any dog up to 1.5 years old, assuming we meshed well).

I think what is complicating my search at this point is the fact that my S.O. and I are planning on relocating (possibly to Charleston, SC) in the next year, so I am trying to limit my search to the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Georgia.

And to answer your first question: No, I don't know any dane enthusiasts.

(* The only color I would like to avoid is harlequin.)

This is a neat lady I got to know while living in GA. I boarded my dogs with her when on travels and she also holds training classes. Very caring about her dogs and took great care of mine.
If she is not breeding, I'd trust her judgment for breeders in GA to look at.

Actually, the folks over at Caeruleus (James and Michelle Conroy) are on the GDCA mentor list.

As for rescue: I am certainly open to it. A friend of mine brought this fellow to my attention yesterday: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/27818462

If the timing were better, I'd have considered adopting him. But I don't want to bring home another dog until after the move.
