I realize that our recipients do not necessarily come along on a 'scheduled' basis, and sometimes the situation calls for flexibility in timing. The dateline for posting, notifying and sending was intended to be a guideline, and I realize that it may not be clear enough.
When we accept a Rescue Elves case, we ask for volunteers from among our list of eager elves. Once the elves have been given the information about the foster or rescue situation, it is expected that the package for the dogs will be sent within 5 days of receiving the PM from me. Once you have sent your package, PM me, so I can follow through and encourage the posting of photographs.
As we know, some rescues stay put for a few months, while others may be placed or rehomed within a couple of weeks, so time is of importance. Thank you all, for all you do! lois

Just a word of caution:
**** everyone wishes they could help as many suffering and needy animals as they possible can. **** however, i would just ask that you carefully research and evaluate requests (and requesters) before you either donate, or put a link out there asking others to do so.
one of the reasons we stipulated in the guidelines that people requesting donations for rescues be Bronze level members, and be members for at least 3 months, attaining at least a level of "Lil Dog", is that unfortunately there are people who cruise around forums, asking for donations that are not always legitimate - and we want this to be a positive and beneficial experience.
If someone is truly doing rescue work, it is doubtful they are destitute and in dire need of funds, or they would not be doing rescue. If there are veterinary needs, the rescue organizations will cover those. We WANT to help, but 1 bad experience can sour everyone - and any legitimate rescue/foster people will respect and understand this concern. So... caveat emptor. If you know people who need us, ask them to join and post and be visible.
Thanks for reading this.

Rescue Elves Squad - Mission, Guidelines & Rules
The voluntary, charitable mission and goal of the Rescue Elves Squad group of DobermanTalk members is to freely donate items such as toys, blankets, collars and leashes, treats, sweaters and other items needed to adequately and properly rehabilitate, socialize and foster rescued Dobermans, in preparation for successful re-homing.
RESCUE ELVES SQUAD Ground Rules and guidelines:
The plan for this venture is to select 1 rescue organization or foster home per month, on the basis of need. This is a small and fluctuating group, and there can be no promise or commitment to donate; however the intent and desire is very real and strong, and it is our hope that this can be a project which will bring happiness and slight relief to those who are making such noble sacrifices for our beloved breed.
Members are encouraged to “Sign up”, so their names and contact information are officially noted as willing participants/donors. The recipients of the donations will be the dogs who are in need, not their rescuers or foster homes, therefore gifts for the humans involved will not be appropriate. We cannot sanction or deal with monetary donations, so any monetary donations you might choose to make must be directly between you and the rescue organization.
Stipulations for being a Rescue Elf:
You must be a member in good standing on the DobermanTalk forum, and at least at the level of “Big Pup”, to demonstrate that you are a participating and knowledgeable member, and reliable. It is preferable that you be at least a basic (Bronze) level contributor, which demonstrates some commitment to this forum and this project. Having members who disappear or can’t be relied upon will cause this project to fail.
Stipulations for being a Rescue Elves Squad recipient:
·You must be, or become, at least a Bronze level member of DobermanTalk forum, (only $10/year), attain at least a “Lil Dog” level, and be a participating, contributing member for at least 3 months before you will be considered. Doberman Talk Forums - Announcements in Forum : Site News
·You must attain and maintain good standing as a forum member, which includes participating in discussions, supporting and teaching other members.
·You must be willing to post photos of your own pets, write your story and some history about your experience with the breed and dogs/animals in general.
·Your request for consideration must be accompanied by the story of your foster or rescues, along with photos, and why you need Elf support.
·You will be expected to be accountable for what you may receive, to post photos of the rescue/foster Dobe with the items, and not use those items for your personal pets.
·We also expect that you will follow through with information on the dog, such as their progress as a foster, photos, and a successful re-homing (or “failed foster”!)
·Additionally, except for items which may be outgrown [such as sweaters, jackets, harnesses and collars], all toys, blankets and other gifts are to be transferred WITH THE DOG, when he or she goes to their new forever home.
·Outgrown items, or items which may have been duplicated, or which the dog didn’t like (for instance, they loved their Wubba, but almost never played with their Cuz), which are new or gently used, are to be passed along to another needy Dobe, or given to an approved rescue.
·Rescue Elf recipients will be expected to participate at least once as elves.
1 needy foster Dobe or rescue Dobe(s) will be chosen each month, based on their story, situation and level of need. It will be the responsibility of the rescue or foster to request consideration, to post their story and photos of the Dobe or Dobes who are the intended recipients. Target date to post requests/stories will be the 1st of each month, with the decision for that month to be made on the 5th, and parcels for that month’s Elvish target to be sent by the 10th.
2 Rescue Elves will be assigned, on a rotating basis. As there are some who prefer to provide Gift Cards from PetSmart, if you don’t have a local PetSmart, please indicate that you need actual goods, and not a gift card.
Packages are to be sent with tracking or delivery confirmation. Once delivery has been confirmed, it is expected that the rescue or foster will post at minimum, a post acknowledging receipt of the package(s) and intent to post pictures within 24 hours, or post pictures with their acknowledgement.
Follow-up posts and pictures would be appreciated as often as the recipient cares to post, but at least when the Dobe has found a home, and is about to leave. (We love a good success story, and want the thrill of being part of making a dog happy.)
If you have items which are gently used, it is perfectly OK to pass those along as part of your Rescue Elf package. Dogs don’t care. However, PLEASE inspect and wash the toy, sweater, blankie, etc., before you send it. Thank you!!
Many Elves prefer to remain anonymous. If you are one of those, PLEASE let us know when your turn comes. Then, if you change your mind, you can reveal your identity. We will not be announcing who someone’s Elves are.
This is a work in progress, and the rules are not written in stone. If there are special needs, just ask, and we’ll see if we can help. If we can’t, we’ll tell you. But hopefully, we can.
Lastly – PLEASE, please don’t feel self-conscious asking for the Rescue Elves Squad to lavish some luxury (or some basics) on your rescue… You are doing a wonderful thing, taking in needy, scared, lonely Dobermans, and if you have such a big heart, but maybe not such a big budget, well… that’s why we want to help! Some of us can’t foster, and really want to help in the ways we are able to – so let the Elves loose!!!
