Max has been trained for hunting & obedience. Also, we are pursuing training him as a therapy dog. My mother has Parkinson's and we've brought Max to visit her & the other residents in the assisted living facility with wonderful results. We also train Max to complete some odd "tasks" for us (switching lights on/off, finding named objects & bringing them to us, giving Max objects to store away, solving puzzles, etc.) as he soaks up learning like a sponge.

I've always owned bigger sized dogs & prefer them My family & I have owned an Irish Setter, German Shepard, and now a Labrador. We've been very fortunate in that all of our pets have been very long lived, which as members of our family, makes us very happy. I'm also very familar with dealing with stronger willed dogs & the absolute necessity to establish yourself as pack leader - firm, level headed discipline, lots of mental stimulation and of course coupled with lots of loving & spoiling.

So, there is some background about us. I hope to learn more about Dobes here while I research/meet breeders in hopes of adding to our family.

sorthund Welcome to DT. Good job working so much with your dog. If you work that hard with your Dobe when you get her, she'll be a very happy dog.

michellejy Welcome from another Ohioan.

We are fortunate to have several reputable breeders around this area (along with a few to avoid like the plague). I was in your shoes not too long ago, and this site was such a huge help in finding a great breeder.
