melbrod Yup...chinooks. They are worse the closer you are to the foothills and sorta depending on how the hills are shaped locally (some areas are just known for higher winds than others) The winds drop off fairly quickly as you move east out onto the plains. Boulder's winds can be massive, but where we are in the Springs they will gust up to about 70-80 mph a couple of times a winter, and even higher occasionally.

Temperatures go up significantly within just a few hours--from 20 degrees up to 55 is pretty common.

Fortunately in the winter trees don't have leaves to catch the wind, so there isn't as much damage as with the same level of wind during hurricane season down South. It is still quite uncomfortable to walk in though.

Go to DPCA website and look for Michelle Santana's series of posts on stacking--I think she called it Reindeer Games--and I think they put it under the breeder information. She has dozens of great how to tips.

I teach puppies a stand stay first and I avoid letting them grab at bait--they get too excited to stack well. Have her stand in front of the mirror and look to see if any of the feet are in pretty good position. If they are when starting out don't move any foot that is in correct position or close to correct position. When starting--settle for almost right--it keeps the puppy calmer and also gives them more confidence if you aren't always moving every foot every time. Don't start trying to bait into position until the puppy has some idea what position is.

Don't spend a lot of time practicing--even five minutes is probably too long for the babies--you'll only be in the ring and being looked at for about three minutes.

Teach a stay along with the stand. Once the puppy 'gets' stand stay then you can start teaching baiting into position.

Look in the puppies mouth daily--I can't remember--if Bohdi is male check his testicles several times a day--if a bitch go over her rear--puppy bitches are often reluctant to have their rears gone over. And just in case you get one of those judges who like to pick up a foot to look for a good thick pad on your working dog-do that with both front feet.

The major point of the mirror is that if you know or your daughter knows what looks correct in the ring from a distance they can then look down and see what the dog they are handling looks like to get the the same look from over the top of the dog.

Thanks for this reply, Bug. I have never used the quote button before. Weird. Yes, I copied out Michelles articles from DPCA. Excellent.
The mirror may be a problem. I may have to be the mirror.
She has pinch hit for me in the ring since a teen and younger and finished her first Ch when 13, but showing Dobermans is totally different than a terrier. Lots more finesse required.
I think the puppy class will be a good place to start. Placements aren't as important as a good introduction to the ring, and manners and having fun. She has been discouraged from even trying to show her own Doberman because of the competition with handlers, but you have to start somewhere.

And to your questions, yes, always more from your experience and knowledge bank.

Cressrb Oops this was supposed to be an addendum to a post of Melbrods. hmmmm

Cressrb I have been scrolling back to respond to Dobebug and found this from Mel. I thought a Chinook was only referred to in Washington State. Came from the Chinook Indians there. Means, Snow Eater.
So Colorado has Chinook winds too?

melbrod Alan J---that is wonderful! I wonder how many takes it took for that guy to get it all out without tripping over his tongue?

TN--I don't know about your mug being a problem (looks OK to me)? But I think it's because Mocha looks so lovey-dovey that those picture work so well. #2 is definitely a keeper.

LOL, Thanks...I have an iPhone X but mainly, I think it's because Mocha is there in the pic to detract attention away from my ugly mug

TNfisher We didn't see a single deer today (maybe too cold for them to come into the park?) or even a single squirrel, which is odd, so I ended up taking a couple of pics of my favorite subject

Looks great.
I guess it's a case of what goes around comes around (eventually)

I painted a bedroom for my not yet husband with Driftwood (must have been around 1962) It (or a color like it) was popular again sometime in the mid 80's. And those slightly off to grey (ish) are once again on the hit list for repaints.

But I remember moving into a house where two of the bedrooms were painted pink and charcoal grey.. Enough to give me nightmares--it got repainted Whatever White in the first week I was there.

I also lived in a house with a lot of roommates and kids that had a paisley print carpet in the kitchen. It looked terrible. You couldn't clean it. Even the commercial carpet cleaner finally gave up on it and didn't charge us for the kitchen--only for the living room (small) and family room (huge).

I've repainted a lot of places where I moved in to 15 year old popular colors--colors I can't imagine living with. The only reason the back bedroom is still Lurid Lavender is that it's just turned into a storage spot--several boxes books, the plants that I can't allow the cats access to, the sewing machine and a Queen sized bed for the occasional overnight guest who is willing to climb over the boxes of books to get to the bed.

I know, I'm just not quite right--gotta go to the store, now I'm out of both milk and bread...

TNfisher GAH! I'm having a hard time finding any humor in this. Last night I checked the local weather and they showed nothing but sunshine for today..."sunny and cold". When I woke up at 6 this morning, I checked the weather app on my trusty iPhone, same thing; nothing but sunshine for every hour of the day.

Guess what? It's 20 degrees out, breezy, and cloudy with snow flurries. The sun is nowhere to be seen. I told Mocha the second the sun does come out, we're outa here...if not, then maybe around noon, when hopefully it'll warm up a tad.

Do you have any brothers, Lannie?
I do, two little brudders that used to annoy the heck out of me, but when they grew up, they turned into pretty nice people. I had two sisters, but one of them died, so I only have one left. She's the baby of the family and my twin, although she's 8 years younger and 2 feet shorter, LOL! We both got the square Hansen jawline and the flaming red hair and blue eyes. The other three kids got the Schwab German hair and brown/hazel eyes. My baby sister is the St. Helens cop (I think I mentioned it before), one brother is a computer geek in Vancouver, Washington and the other brother is a computer geek in Sacramento.

House payment or repairs?

Luckily, INSURANCE! Thank God it paid for everything. We went shopping and sent them all the receipts and they sent us a check. Nice. There was no actual damage to the house, just all the electrical stuff that was on the line that got hit. And before anyone asks, yes, Rich installed a lightning ground right after that, so if it ever happens again (please I hope not!), the lightning should go right down into the dirt and dissipate there.

WOW! That has to be the best backward driver ever, next to Tow Mater. Seriously, that was some pretty fancy driving, and I'm guessing that gear box is not stock.

LadyDi It is really cold for us thin skinners!
Tomorrow the high is 60 with a low of 33 degrees.
So cold last night I wore flannel jammies and that is rare!
Hoss had his Meadowcat jammies on ......he loves those jammies.
Nice and snug, will have to post a pic later of him all balled up.
That material is so nice and soft.

Good morning LadyDi

Thanks - does have a slightly more gray cast to it than the photos - the lighter ones I think may have had flash on. I do not recall I took a number of them with different settings to see what happens.

The second coat is on in the guest bedroom. When we put it back together I will take another photo. Will be glad to do so since all the stuff that was in that room is in the computer/music room where I am....very crowded.

Have extra chair, artwork, lamps, small table, bedspread, and my BowTech bow....which I have not used in 8 years or so...maybe when we move. Although my shoulders may not allow it anymore. Will have to get the draw adjusted down.

Off now to have 15 minutes of piano if I can squeeze over there....have a great day all!
