melbrod I have a cat in my lap, a dog on my footstool sitting on my feet and I'm all twisted up trying to type. I hope I'll be able to stand up when it's time to get out of this chair.

Aspen groves are damper and typically have a fern understory, but aspens really only do well at altitudes above about 7,000 feet. So you won't commonly see ferny woods unless you're out hiking in the mountains (as opposed to the foothills)
Good to know! But, guess I won't be seeing any ferns because high altitudes make me cry for no reason and parking at the back of a parking lot is hike enough for me!

However, when I was in Colorado up in the four corners, I loved the birch and aspen trees. At least, I think I remember being told that was what they were?

Took me 3 days of my vacation to stop weeping, for no apparent reason, because of the altitude sickness.

After that, I couldn't fathom trying to bake in Colorado. Denver is about as elevated as I want to get. Next time I get to Denver I will drop in and surprise Ma!
