OMG, I LOVE THAT SONG! Oh, what am I saying, they're ALL my favorite song! LOL! But this one is especially nice.

I've wondered if it's actually possible to get too close to your dog and I mean from a human standpoint because I already know when her time comes, it's literally going to tear me apart.

My idea of heaven? Me being able to retire NOW so Mocha and I could just go hiking in the woods every day LOL
That's how it was with me and Zipper, too. I'd get sideways on the couch, she'd lie on the floor right under me, and I'd stroke her face (one finger from her nose, up between her eyes to the top of her head, repeat, repeat, repeat) or play with the cowlick on the back of her neck, and when my arm got tired, I just laid it across her shoulders. Those were good times. I got too close, maybe because of all the intensive care she always needed, but it happened, nonetheless, and when she left, I was absolutely shattered. I know you already do, but it bears repeating - cherish every single moment you have with her, because there will never be another like her. She's your soul mate.

I'm still not over Zipper, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I get all misty and weepy when I read your signature line. It's been almost six months now, and it hurts just as bad. I miss her snoring. I miss her big feet hanging over the edge of the couch. I miss that look of total love and devotion when she was "gazing" at me during our alone times. I even miss her Dobie-farts. That's sick! But I do. I even miss the chores, like cooking for her, and accompanying her outside for potty trips no matter how fair or foul the weather. I just miss her. I hope Mocha lives longer than any other Dobe in history!

Sorry, I got all sappy and said that out loud, didn't I?

ECIN Back years and years ago LDI - Yes - Knew everybody in line , But with all the semi's on farm now - we can haul many miles to get the best price at the time of sell . Price sometime is controlled by who needs it most - like a Ethanol plant , or the river ( Ohio ) to be put on barges for export . Lots of our corn heads South - South East , to FLA , The Carolinas , Georgia - for Feed - Like Chickens and Hogs .

Back to your question , lol , yesterday I knew about half that was hauling in there . Forgot - In the one picture sitting in line - notice there is a train next to us - they were loading as we dumped and it is heading South .

No bad words from me ! I don't talk that way !

LOL--Not quite. I forgot that one was floating around. That's a very young me scowling at the camera. Major Godsol was the judge--he liked his dogs to be able to show themselves and a handler from Portland (the left hand one) Vic Reynolds told me to teach Marc to walk into a stack and bait him and keep my hands off him. Good advice--he got a 5 point major, that finished him and he also went BOB from the classes with 3rd in Group.

The following summer Bea Godsol (Major Godsol's wife) gave him his first AKC BIS.

Pretty good for picking the biggest black male in the litter. If I had tried I couldn't have gotten a show dog the way I did. It was sheer luck. I really should have gotten a nice dog from a BYB and would have been told or figured it out on my own that I did not have a show dog. That's what happens to most people.

When I saw that at our vet's office, it spoke to me. I took a pic of it with my cellphone so I could write it down when I got home and I try to live it.

One caveat: Mocha could have ANY kind of ears at all (even bunny ears, LOL!) and she'd be gorgeous!

I know, that's great, isn't it? Every time I read one of his posts and see that at the bottom, I get all misty, and sometimes weepy. Zipper loved me like that, and it surpassed any amount of trouble she ever caused me, because she LOVED me with every cell of her body. And I her.
I love Mocha's crop although I think I stopped posting just a tad too early, her ears tend to stick out at the 11 & 1 or 10 & 2 position when she's alert vs standing almost straight up although that could just be the crop itself? The vet our breeder used was well-known, and I think he did a great job.

Mocha is the most loving dog I've ever owned, and I've had a few (she's my first Doberman although my Mom had one when I was young). We have such a close bond, it's really something. Every day when I come home from work it's like she hasn't seen me in a month. After I pull in the garage and turn off the car, I can already hear her crying upstairs because she knows daddy is home and once I walk through that door, it's a welcome home party and honestly, I'm just as happy to see her . We're together every second of every minute I'm home and if possible, she's gotta be touching me in some way, even if it's laying against my legs or feet while I'm at the computer. If I sit or lay down on the couch, she'll come and stand there and lay her head on my lap or chest and then stand there, with sighs of contentment. And it goes both ways, while she's laying down beside me, I have one hand on her head or neck. We're two peas in a pod. And honestly, aside from my wife, Mocha is my best friend and I talk to her more than I do to most people LOL

TNfisher Well, I finished The Tawny Man trilogy as well, and just started The Rain Wild Chronicles. I'm happy I'm reading the books in order of publication; yeah, The Liveship Traders was a jump off the beaten path (at first) but I was still in the same universe/realm and time-wise, it all makes more sense this way and everything ties together. Robin Hobb has jumped way up on the list of my favorite authors, for sure. If there' s anything I do have an issue with, it's the way she has some of her characters speaking; i.e. young children using formal and big words, being able to construct thoughts and sentences like grown adults. Minor quibble, though, which doesn't detract at all from the books. I think after this there's one more Fitz and Fool trilogy, and that'll be all ...then there's another series (Soldier's Son?). Lot more good reading ahead

modm Yay the weekend! But it is going to rain all day tomorrow. Which other than going out to piano lesson and maybe paint store doesn't matter. Will paint some more rooms this weekend - hope at least one.

But Sat and Sunday supposed to be decent.

When we first had Spock as young pup, before joining DT forum, we thought it was cute to have him go bananas chasing laser pointer outside in backyard. He went ape$h!t, and it was hilarious. Spock has a very high prey drive. I stopped using laser pointers after reading bad experiences on this forum. Unfortunately, Spock already had a light obsession by that point. Just taking off my reading glasses indoors and the overhead light shining through the lenses on floor in kitchen would start him off on a chase. He'd be barking & pouncing on the bright light patterns moving on the floor. It even got to the point of him just pouncing on his own shadow when a bright indoor light was above him. Even speaking the word "laser" would start him barking. Not good... (Dobes are smart and can spell - e.g. even spelling out "F L Y" gets him goin')

Spock has grown out of this obsession in his senior years. I recently gave his school class presentations, using a laser pointer on projection screen, with Spock sitting calmly and obedient in front of (4) x fourth grade classes. Wouldn't have been good if he'd gone beserk chasing the red dot!!

Lesson learned- NO LASERS for Dobermans!

Now, for CATS- go ahead and tease & torment them all you want with laser pointers- they're evil and deserve it!!

Yeah I tend to agree - read some of the older posts. OCD potential and others. Mila is still going around looking for the dot. When I got home this afternoon and went to the bedroom to change she followed in and became more attentive tail wagging and looking around for the dot...under the bed etc... After Molly tried to get the dot originator with her teethers - I stopped with her as well.

Good of Spock to not chase the dot during the class!

No--I rattled it around with my sister and brother (you know, maybe even a joint purchase or something), and decided it just wouldn't work. But you got me to look at the listing again...it's off the market. It doesn't say whether it finally sold (it was on the market for a LONG time) or the owners just pulled it off for a bit. So unless one of my sibs bought it as a present for me I guess it is no longer an option.

It still pulls at my heartstrings.
