Hmmm... still tiny. I don't know what to do about that. I used to post bigger pictures on this forum. I wonder if it's my computer. Back to the drawing board. ![]() |

Lannie | Now let's try the test picture, the one that Rich made bigger than normal. |

K, let's see if we can get a picture of Horus up here... Sorry it's tiny, SP. I took this a couple days before the blizzard. Horus and his friends Helen and Little John had all conspired to knock down the pasture gate and they were roaming the property for a couple days until we got the gate fixed. The picture is him standing in front of our garage, keeping out of the wind. ![]() I have some nice action pictures of him on my other computer if I can gather the courage to go down there (it's freezing in the basement) to post them for you one of these days. |

You can also paste this into a draft word doc as backup. Another thing that works when posting gets bogged down or returns an error is to use Browser Back Arrow, which will take you back to the compose page. Then I would definitely copy and paste into word or text doc to save until issue resolved. It's happened to me many times on Customer Service email pages where one has to type in long messages. Now, I always copy to clipboard before submitting, just in case. ![]() ![]() Quote:

You guys know what "cage free" means for chicken and eggs? It COULD mean someone has a nice open place they let their chickens roam around in (like our 15 acre plot), but what it PROBABLY means is that the chickens are all milling around loose in a closed building with only one or two square feet of floor space per bird. And "pasture raised" doesn't mean happy chickens running around free in a pretty green pasture, although technically it could. What it does mean is that the chickens have to have at least 10 minutes of access to the outside in each 24 hour period. TEN minutes. They open the door for 10 minutes, but most of those chickens, being confined in the building the rest of their 23 hours and 50 minutes a day, would be afraid to go out, so they don't. But when you buy chicken that says it was pasture raised, you get a warm fuzzy feeling about pretty chickens playing in the sun in a green meadow. Don't you? ![]() To be honest, a truly pasture raised chicken is tough as rubber, because they run around a LOT. When we butcher some of our extra roosters, I LOVE the meat because it actually has a nice intense chicken flavor, but I can't just roast it or fry it. It has to be stewed, slow cooked for 24 hours or boiled to death. I usually throw the pieces in a pot with onions, celery, and some seasonings and boil it all day, then pull the meat off the bones, and use that along with the strained stock (VOODOO SOUP) to make Annoying Rooster Pot Pie. ![]() Quote:

I used to have Photobucket but they took all my pictures and I refuse to pay the ransom, so I don't have a photo hosting site anymore. I doubt the other ones are much better, and besides it would be so much work, and so much time I don't have, to move all my pictures over to another site. The attachments are easier, for me, so I'll see if I can get them to be a little bigger. Gah, you're breaking my heart. She did that EXACT thing! I guess they all do. It must be something they learn in Dobie school. Yeah, no thanks! I have one hairy dog already and her prey drive is high. Huskies are through the ROOF! Although I do like Huskies I would never have one with all these small animals (and poultry) on the place. Nah, I need a Dobie. I would love to see pictures of Toad, too. I've never seen him. I'm sure there must be pics somewhere on the forum, but I've never come across one. ![]() He's under the house. Skunks don't usually go UP. They go down. If you go around your foundation and look carefully, I'll bet you find a little access hole. Probably behind a shrub. If you want to try catching him yourself, I can tell you a pretty safe way to do it, but you need a live trap. First, find his (or her) access hole, then set the live trap near it with a can of cat food in the back. The skunk will go in to eat the cat food, they LOVE canned cat food. Then slowly and carefully, put a tarp over the trap so IF he gets scared and sprays, it will go on the tarp and not on you. At that point, what we do is carry the trap out to an open area, tip it up and let the skunk tumble out, then shoot it. It has to be a head or a spine shot, or it will spray. If you don't want to (or can't for some reason) shoot it, just take it nice and slow out somewhere far from your house and open the front of the trap and let it go. We had a bad skunk problem several years back (had a "she" and she had babies), so we borrowed a live trap and dispatched almost all of them. (Don't yell at me, the babies were grown up by then.) None of them sprayed while they were in the trap covered by the tarp. They just curled up and waited to be let loose. Anyway, that's what the professional guy will do, so you can pay him or do it yourself if you feel up to it. Hey, do you have a County Trapper in your area? We called ours and he's the one who showed us what to do and loaned us the live trap. He also trapped a bunch of foxes we were having problems with as well. Then we got the dogs (the Pyrenees) and haven't had a fox problem since. We still get the odd skunk passing through, but they don't stay, so it's not a huge problem anymore. Once every couple years maybe one of the dogs will get skunked because they're STOOPID and they have to chase. Missy is the worst, and she has long hair, so it takes a bit of effort to deskunk her. Zipper, being short-coated, was easy to deodorize. If you don't already know this, here's the formula for deskunking: Half a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in a large bowl or bucket. Handful of baking soda. Big healthy squirt of Dawn dish liquid (to degrease the skunk oil). Mix that together with your hand and use a rag to sop it all over the dog (or whomever) where the spray hit, then use a clean wet cloth and follow up with a clean dry cloth. It would get 100% of the smell off Zipper and it gets about 99% off Missy. Missy will still smell a bit eau d'skunk for a couple days, but it's not horrible. ![]() Disclaimer: The above is only my advice based on personal experience and no offense is intended to anyone. It works very well! Axel got skunked not once but twice. Dumb dog for going back for seconds. The expression on his face after the second hit was pathetic. Like I am supposed to help you? Hows about helping me by not playing with skunks? |
