Thanks for the welcome, everyone! |
Still working on figuring out how this particular forum operates, so my apologies if I mess up the formatting in replies.
@4x4bike ped I live in DFW when I'm not at school. So it's more like I spend a few weeks a year there, lol. (Also! You have Foxfire pups! They're one of my favorite breeders from the preliminary searching!)
@ECIN Nope, not V-Tech or Purdue! I'm a little weird about privacy, so I probably won't mention my school by name. I love your story!! When I moved house in middle school our new neighbor also had a dobe that would just silently watch me every time I rode my bike around the neighborhood. No idea what I would have done if he ran after me!

Welcome from Indiana ! Vet school huh ? V-Tech ? Purdue ? lol |
I agree with Cressrb - lol - The first Dober I came across was Doc Downing's ! He lived up on a big hill - Every Sunday - I would ride my bike into Morristown to visit my Grandma that worked at the Kopper Kettle - she made the pies ! ( Sugar Cream !! ) Anyway - Ole Doc had the biggest Doberman in the world ! For a kid anyway - That BIG dog got to chasing me when I rode by ! Scared the holly BaJesus out of me - lol Before you get to Docs - there was another big hill - So when I got to it - I would stop on top and look over at Docs place - there that kid eater Doberman Sat ! Looking right at me - he was waiting for me - So I would peddle that bike as fast as I could and here came that Dober down the hill - He would run along side me barking and I was trying to haul azz - would get to the property line and he would turn and go back up the hill - It was nothing but a game to him - lol Even though he scared the crap out of me - 8 years latter - we had our first Doberman - that was close to 40 years ago - lol

Welcome to DT from Utah. Interesting about your one interaction with a Doberman that you didn't forget. |
Mine started in 1968 when sitting in a restaurant in Seattle and a man outside was walking two Dobermans on a brace.
Just a gorgeous sight. I told my husband - someday I am going to have a dog just like that! And, I did forty years later!
Now we have three, so just a word of caution.

Not quite “new,” but an introduction!
Howdy to all here at DobermanTalk!
I’ve been lurking on these boards for a while (at least a year?), and finally got to the point of wanting to participate instead of just watch
A little about myself: I’m a veterinary student with a serious interest in the breed spanning the past few years, but sparked when I was very young and a dobe barked at me in the animal shelter. Strange, really, that one interaction with a young frustrated dog in the early 90s is what set it off. But here we are!
Being a student, I know I don’t have the time for a dog so I’m making do with a cat and a lot of research for the time being. And study breaks on DT, of course! The serious, realistic search for a puppy will possibly be starting soon, so I’ll probably have tons of questions for the forum in the upcoming months.
Looking forward to chatting with you all!
