4x4bike ped Hi Harley! (And Mra)

Is your boy Genius a dilute also? Don't see too many fawns or blues anymore. My youngest's maternal Grandsire is a fawn. Handsome dog... He is now 13 years old.

In any case

Welcome from the Pacific NW!

melbrod They probably haven't seen your message...they don't seem to be active anymore.

Sent you a PM...you seem to have two accounts (mra69 and Harley17?) We only allow one user account per person. Let me know what is going on and I can take care of it.

And I should have said this first---Welcome to DT from Colorado!!!!

Mra69 Hi. New to this forum. I tried to send you a message. Not sure if it went thro. I know this post is almost 2yrs old, but we believe Freddie is our Genius's brother. We brought Genius home August 4th 2017 from Shal Mar. Gerrie mentioned Freddie when we were thinking of Genius
Name. Hope Freddie is doing well. We just can't get enough of our Genius.

Genius

Hi there. I think we have Freddie's brother. We have Genius. We picked him up on August 4th 2017 from Shalmar Stockton. He'll be 2yrs old on June 3rd...

Brandicus Thank you everyone for the kind welcomes and advice. We will certainly think twice before bringing him with us again for the next couple months.
He is on track with his vaccines and enrolled for puppy classes next month. It is pretty hard exercising him without walks but luckily he has taken some affinity with his ball toys.
Definetly want to avoid parvo and really do appreciate the words of caution melbrod and puptalk, thanks!

Bite inhibition is another uphill battle, he does seem to respond to yelps and walking out of the room but hasnt quite learned not to bite in the first place when hes excited.
I guess we are still on phase 1 of letting him mouth and only responding to the harder bites, I dont want to rush him too much as hes still so young. I just hope we are doing it right! He does seem pretty interested in pleasing humans though which is encouraging.

Oh and he is finally not chasing the cats (instantly) horray! The main issue there is the kitten wants to play and chase, and the old man kittie just wants to be left alone, im sure its very confusing for a young puppy to understand.

Anyway heres some more pics, I think hes doubled in size for the week weve had him!

Pretty proud of my old man kitty being this comfortable with him after only a week.

This is what trying to poop at my house is like....

And heres a link to a video of him showing a VERY GOOD demonstration of leave it (so proud!)

Do you guys see the resemblance? :p

and with a similar hat!

Thanks! Will continue to post updates here periodically.

melbrod Yes--be careful not to take him to places where there have been a lot of dogs (dog parks, pet stores, sidewalks where dogs go on their daily walks and so on)--do your exercising in your back yard or in areas where people do not walk their dogs--Parvo virus can hang around in the environment for a long time.

Have folks visit your home--lots of different folks--children, men with beards, women--dressed in different kinds of clothes (coats, hats, gloves)--you get the idea--as many variants as you can think of, and let him explore the world at his own speed--but stay away from any areas other dogs frequent until his puppy shots are completed.

But make sure he gets those puppy shots--all of them. Dobermans are especially susceptible to Parvo--and it is a terrible thing which kills so many young pups.

puptalk The way I understand parvo is the shots don't protect them, but are given as a precaution should the mothers' immunity decrease to a certain level say arbitrarily , level 4 , at which time the pup will build antibodies to parvo with a parvo shot, but not before with the previous shots. And, my understanding is, that is why the last shot,if you are on schedule, is given at 4 months, when the immunities from mom are no longer effective and the dog absolutely build antibodies. So since this is what I have been teught and read, all my socialization is done through family and friends, but rarely in public especially in parks, until the last shot and rabies are given_ 2 weeks. In over 40 years, I've seen too many other puppies come down with parvo, distemper, that had their puppy shots but were under 3 months, and went everywhere with their new owners, on all kinds of turf. If you make it through parvo, I don't think the dog is as robust afterwards throughout his life as he would have been if it had been avoided. Ask you vet's opinion when you get the next shot as to how protected your pup is. Also, Doberman digest has had a good article on it this year.

Your new baby is adorable!!!!

dobegal hi and welcome Curry/Murky to DT. you are a cutie,
08-03-2017 12:37 PM
melbrod And pretty soon you’ll be calling him “Murky Curkey” Or maybe even “Turkey Murky” It happens.

No questioning whether he is a boy or a girl--he has a “man” face already. Love the expression in the first--he looks like he has a bit of a “try and make me” look already. LOL

Puppies are a handful--but the more you expose him to now, the easier time you’ll have with him later. Sounds like you’re on the right track.

Oh yes, and welcome to DT. Keep it up with the pictures!!!

Meet Freddie Mercury!

Hi yall,

This forum has been a great resource to me first and foremost. I want to thank all of the very active and dedicated members of this board for keeping it up and having passion for such a magnificent breed.

Without further ado here is Mercury, also known as Curry or Murky. He is the most calm and well mannered puppy ive ever known. He gets rowdy from time to time but shal mar dobermans did a great job socializing him, he is already great with being touched everywhere and he hardly ever cries when hes in his crate. Im sure he will test us but so far im shocked with how "easy" he is.

He does this cute thing where he spins around before going number 2, is this something that will continue into adulthood? Its adorable, I understand alot of dobes do this.

known commands so far:

- Hurry-Curry (go potty!)
- Leave it (stop whatever you are doing)
- Still working on consistent sits/downs

He is 8 weeks old, I am trying to prioritize giving him as many positive experiences with people over the next month as possible. Then the following month is doggie exposure. All the while doing chewtoy, crate, and bite inhibition training... and im sure im forgetting a dozen other things im supposed to be doing!

Thanks again guys, I look forward to being a contributing member of this community.
