ECIN One thing - Be careful with a pup and new cropped ears - They get cold very quick ! And they can freeze or get frost bite - We made a cap for Ali when she was Loki's age - lol I mean Spock

Yes, in Morgan county we are more south of Monrovia amongst the woods, and away from the cornfields haha They may have a brilliant marching band, but haven't kept up with things since moving back from England, (husbands a Brit)
Thank you regarding the twins... I think we named Kirk right, he's so dramatic and over the top. haha!! And poor Luke (Spock) I can't take photos for anything, I took the photo when he was telling me: live long and prosper.... oh, the face he is pulling! hahahahaha

Dobebug: I did not know that,..... and I'm not sure why I don't know this I know Eris is the goddess of chaos and discord, I name a lot of my characters in mmo's after her in some way, usually dark elves, Even this forum name has her name in it. Thank you ECIN and Dobebug........ I love learning new cool stuff, now I can go read up on the real Loki

Wow you all are so mint! Love this forum <3

ECIN Loki's origins and role in Norse mythology, which some scholars have described as that of a trickster god, have been much debated by scholars. Loki has been depicted in or is referenced in a variety of media in modern popular culture.

And here all along Aunt B . I thought I was not right - lol

dobebug I'll echo 4 x 4 (John)'s welcome from the Pacific Northwest (I'm in Portland too) but I hafto blow the whistle on Doc/Kenny our other Indiana-ite--he's probably forgotten why he likes the name Loki so much but you'll find out it figures that he would since Loki is one of the gods of mischief and since that's Kenny's forte, of course he'd like it best.

dobebug (AKA Auntie Bug the Luddite Hun)

PS Congratlations on your new addition...

We still haven't decided on a name, although its looking like it may end up Spock or Nitro, lol. Promise we aren't stepping on your toes Spocksdad I think you have amazing taste ...

Spock sounds like a fine name for your little Doberpup!

There is another Dobe Spock on the DT forum, an accomplished show dog belonging to member ShelianDobe in SC.
https://www.dobermantalk.com/doberma...-coursing.html

The pic of your twins as Kirk and Spock are too cute!

I have previously posted that if we ever did it over, my DW and I would have named Spock "Clingon" (with a "C" vs. "K" - being a super Velcro dog) and Eva "T'Pring" (Spock's Controlling Beatch- the Boss)

LadyDi Good...follow these posting processes.......I used Tampons was not real impressed with the outcome.........my next pup I plan to use this method.

4x4bike ped Here is the sticky thread that Lady is referring to. It is, in my opinion the best posting method available today. It uses the backer rod method.

It is a step by step visual tutorial by member greenkouki:

https://www.dobermantalk.com/ear-cro...acker-rod.html

If you follow it fastidiously, you will have great success posting your pups ears.

When you start, make sure that you have all of your ducks in a row before you start. Be patient. Make it fun.

This can be a very important and valuable bonding experience between you and your pup!

Best to you and "What's His Name". LOL)

Aerissa Melbrod that post is fantastic, better than any video I've seen!! Thank you for sharing, husband prefers backer rod. Had seen more videos with tampons. Thank you so much again!
01-11-2019 01:45 PM
LadyDi Before you purchase any supplies for posting ...maybe someone can find the sticky regarding this process for our new pup.
We have some real ear posting pro's on this forum.......follow their lead ......they will get details to you soon via this thread hold tight for more news about the preferred method of posting.....
01-11-2019 01:43 PM
melbrod We have a tutorial for a method a lot of us use...
https://www.dobermantalk.com/ear-cro...acker-rod.html

It's similar to the tampon method really, except using backer rod allows to you to customize the width and length of the support--as a puppy gets bigger, sometimes you need more length than a tampon will give you. It may be more comfortable for the dog too. The cost is about the same (maybe even a tiny bit cheaper).

Aerissa Wow! Hi everyone again, thank you for the warm welcome!
We still haven't decided on a name, although its looking like it may end up Spock or Nitro, lol. Promise we aren't stepping on your toes Spocksdad I think you have amazing taste

My husband is a Trekie, I love the old series too, but I'm more star wars (70's films) girl, lol We have twin boys and when they were born we split the difference and named one, Kirk James, and the other Luke, haha, I know we are a sad lot!
We dressed up boys 2 years in a row as Kirk and Spock. Yep, we even prepared Luke for Spock by growing his hair about so we could give him the Spock hair cut! We did fix it next day after halloween tho, I promise! hahahaha, (will post a photo, its quite funny) This year we are doing Luke and Han, or Luke and Yoda.....

My husband and Kirk are ganging up on me saying how Spock and Kirk will grow up "best friends" ....... While me and Luke are still going for Nitro, the little boy is so full of beans! haha But are going to try and make a decision tonight. *fingers crossed*

This morning we've been crate training, for small periods of times, making it a fun game, and putting his favorite things in there, yesterday he was scared of the crate. I am taking photos of everything, it's like having a new kids haha! Today he seems quite happy to go in and eat and chew on his toys, as long as I'm sat next to him. LOL So any advice to help this bit along would be ever so appreciated!

ECIN, We are live near Monrovia, if you know where that is? I like Loki too (love marvel comics)

LadyDi, We have never posted ears before, He's gets his stitches out tomorrow morning (sat) but his cone will stay on for another 2 weeks, hopefully it will last that long. We've watched tons of youtube videos and the vet left instructions, we are thinking the tampon method. I will probably post a lot of photos once his ears are healed and we start, just to make sure we get it right, don't want him to go through all this pain and surgery for me to mess it up.

Thank you so much everyone for the amazing welcome very pleased to meet you all!

LadyDi Welcome from the state of florida.......the personality will shine through real soon ...that will help you finalize the name.
Training........this can be a new thread that you could start for yourself. .......but stick with the basics for now regarding training.....gotta let all those joints develop before they do alot of high energy jumping etc. ........but you might already know alot about all that as you have been doing your research. Meanwhile.......a big welcome.......looking forward to all the new baby questions......

melbrod Welcome to DT. I can see you've been lurking; you've got the picture thing down pat. Not that that should prevent you from posting more

Cute puppy. I like all of the names you've picked (even Spock, 4x4 phbbbtt )

But with a second name of two syllables, a first name with two syllables just seem to roll off of my tongue better. Because there are times you'll need to use his full name
"__-__ Maxim, cut that out!!!"

4x4bike ped Welcome from the Pacific NW.

Awesome! Every time I see a post like yours I start to get Puppy Fever...

Member ECIN (AKA "Doc" and "Kenny") is from Indiana and a regular poster. Perhaps he will chime in. BTW, there is already a "Spock" on this forum. I like "Tango"

Hello!

Hello everyone!
I'm new! ...... well sort of, I've been a lurker for months. lol

Love dobies!! My grandfather bred them, and growing up we had a female Doberman from one of his litters, named Penelope P Dog. We called her Penny. She was my best friend as a child, she followed me everywhere, and probably kept me safe more times than I know or can count.
When I was 5, decided to climb out my bedroom window and go on an "adventure" I waited by the window and Penny looked down at me, down she came, we proceeded up the street in a small town.
Penny at my side, stopping to pick flowers (probably our neighbors) and chuck rocks. I couldn't tell you how long it was, but I remember seeing my parents car coming up the street, and looking back I think my dad had a terrified look on his face, although probably more relieved. This was the beginning of our adventures, we eventually moved to the country where I proceeded on many more adventures through fields, creeks and pastures, Penny always keeping a watchful eye on me, even grabbing a snake in my path and chucking it up like a baton lol.

We've had other dogs, growing up, but she was the "one". I loved them all, but she was special, smart and in-tune with me as child growing up. Her passing was the worst and also one of the better days of my childhood, We were out in a massive woods/forest mushroom hunting, it was beautiful, she was older and I was probably 10 or 11. My parents focused on the morals, but me and Penny were running through the babbling creeks, trying to catch minnows, playing with pebbles..... I was chucking sticks for her, just amazing and fun day, still remember how beautiful out it was that day. That night while I was sleeping I heard a thump in the hallway by my room. Penny we think had just had a heart attack and died that night. Penny was 9 years 6 months and 2 days old.

Now all these years later, I've finally decided it was time. We have a 8 week 3 day old male dobie. I'll add a couple photos, excuse his little conehead. lol We've had him 3 days. I am SO in love with him. Although we are completely undecided on a name...... lol >.< 3 days we've come up with possibles of Nitro, Spock, Tango, or Loki and we cannot sort it out. We want to add his grandfathers name as middle name, which is Maxim.

Really would like to find a IPO club, or any other working dog/doberman clubs so any info would be brilliant. Have been reading books, and watching youtube videos for a couple months, but I've never done any dog sports or shows and I'm really keen to learn, but have absolutely no clue/training. I've been searching, and emailed one IPO club, hoping to hear back soon. We are in Central Indiana.

oh wow, apologies for the long post, am very happy to meet you all, glad to finally emerge out of the shadows to finally say Hello to you all!
