spocksdad Doberadmin,

Thanks for your help with the new format which works great and is much easier to insert link!

Sample YouTube Embedded Video:

However, all pre conversion embedded YouTube videos on DT are no longer viewable.

Example of previous embedded YouTube video DT thread:
https://www.dobermantalk.com/doberma...ock-lanah.html

There is a work around however for the older embedded videos.
Copy the YouTube video code from the post, then insert in YouTube address as follows:
(from above post, as example)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geyRVaymS3M

This takes one to YouTube page of original embedded video.
Not exactly user friendly...

FYI- Other caveats I have found about embedded videos on DT forum:

1. YouTube videos can remain "Unlisted" and still be viewable on forum.
2. Flickr videos have to be "Public" to be seen on DT forum.
3. Flickr photos can remain "Private" and still be viewable on DT forum with direct embedded link. Otherwise, readers could see one's entire album when going to view photo in separate window.

doberadmin I think Ed is requesting an easier method for embedding videos for you.

For now, this method he mentioned, does appear to work.

It's the same format. However, the code that I inserted used to be in the URL of the video, and now I had to right click the video, choose "get embed code", copy that, pull out that shortened code, then use that. Not the same code as in the video URL like it used to be just days ago.

Rosemary This worked on chrome on a tablet.

MeadowCat Chrome.

melbrod Ya got me.

What browser are you using? I generally use Chrome, but sometimes it seems like different browsers insist on doing things differently.

Okay, so now it looks like I have to copy the "embed" code, which I didn't have to do a few weeks ago? What gives?

HTML Code:
[youtube]OupqDI7NBYE[/youtube]
I copied the video url using the popup thingy that displays on a mac to let you copy a picture or video in various ways, and then put it into the above format. Which looks different from yours?? Your code has &t=11s tacked onto the end.

CUTE video, by the way.

MeadowCat Okay....having problems embedding this video?

Okay, so it's [ youtube ] youtube gibberish "0aTPSO3Ngx0" [ /youtube ] The main difference is that you don't need to put "youtube=title", you just put "youtube".

Youtube worked!!

But posting a smiley from a free smiley host didn't, and it used to.

Code as posted:

HTML Code:
[URL=http://www.sherv.net/][IMG]http://www.sherv.net/cm/emo/happy/happy-and-sad-smiley-emoticon.gif[/IMG][/URL]
Smiley is supposed to show here:

The code of a smiley from Sherv.net used to work for me, but neither the code nor the smiley showed up in the final post. You can still see the code at the edit reply stage. It is possible that is coming from the Sherv end of things, though.

Had to try it a few times to get it right, but that looks like it works! Yay!

doberadmin Hi everyone,

I have edited the bbcode.
It should be [youtube]Your youtube link here[ /youtube]
Please let me know if this worked

doberadmin Thanks,

I see that the new way of embedding the videos isn't implemented on the site.
I'll see if I can make the adjustments here.
If not, I'll escalate it to the tech team.

I'll keep you posted here in a bit.

That's what I tried in post #15, and I still have a blank box using Chrome.
07-10-2018 12:08 PM
MeadowCat ^^^^ I cannot see that video that I just embedded while I'm browsing the forum right now on Chrome.
07-10-2018 12:08 PM
MeadowCat Since the code to embed is [ youtube = video ] UCmUhYSr-e4 [ / youtube ] (with spaces removed), how does getting rid of the "s" do anything?

[youtube=video]YrLk4vdY28Q[/youtube]
07-10-2018 12:05 PM
Rosemary Well what I tried this time didn't work at all...
