Landscape Lighting Frontyard Completed
Been working on overhaul of front landscape lighting to supplement the block project. Finished today after 3-days of solid work. Replaced many floods with bollard walkway lights, etc. All lights are LED, low voltage (12VAC). Since these pics, reduced wattage on right gate flood to reduce glare. Sky was nice with a huge moon out tonight.
Next have to o/h backyard pool lights, but not this weekend due to 100F both Sat and Sunday. Have a computer to build for a friend's MIL.

I love, love, love thunderstorms. |
But then, I like almost any kind of weather. Except sunny blue skies...that gets boring.

Nice little drizzle of rain and light show going on here. |
I've never been scared of thunderstorms. Has anyone else not been scared of thunder storms?
Can you tell I am bored on a Friday night?

Ahh, "The Bulwer Lyntton Fiction Contest (where www means Welcome Wretched Writers) " |
I don't think I could even begin to compete. Here are the 2019 winners:
"Space Fleet Commander Brad Brad sat in silence, surrounded by a slowly dissipating cloud of smoke, maintaining the same forlorn frown that had been fixed upon his face since he’d accidentally destroyed the phenomenon known as time, thirteen inches ago."
Grand Panjandrum's Special Award:
"Emile Zola wandered the dank and soggy streets of a gloomy Parisian night, the injustice of the Dreyfus affair weighing on him like a thousand baguettes, dreaming of some massage or therapy to relieve the tension and pain in his aching shoulders and back, and then suddenly he thought of his Italian friends and their newly invented warm water bath with air jets and he rapturously exclaimed that oft misquoted declaration — "Jacuzzi!""

You have to admit that I have a long way to go. But maybe if I continue to practice by posting here, next year would be a possibility. Anyway, I've missed the June 30th cutoff date for this year.

The daffodils and the tall beaded iris were the only things that bloomed on their normal schedule and were their normal size.
That's not really true--the day lilies started blooming on schedule and all of them from the giant bright yellow ones down to the small Stella del Oro's (they are butter yellow) and everything in between are doing what they usually do.
But my hosta's with two exceptions (and those are the ones that generally are the last to send up bloom stalks and have not done so yet.)
Everything else from medium to huge have been about a whole month earlier to send up blooms--and are now in full flower--at about the time they normally are just barely producing bloom stalks.
The big Oriental lily is about half the size it normal attains and has only 6 bloom stalks total for all of the total plants--much smaller than usual and much earlier than usual and far fewer buds per stalk.
The fuchsias on the other hand are blooming their heads off--lavishly is the only really descriptive term--and that was even with our couple of days of high temperatures which will usually put a delay in bud setting for fuchsias.
It's been really weird around here--including the geraniums that decided to survive the winter and are now starting to bloom. I also have violas (which I love because they are indestructible) are all over the place--they self seed like mad things (including in the cracks in the cement in the driveway).
And as a finale' for the weird things happening in my garden--chrysanthemums which grow and set buds and flower according to what type they are and the length of daylight hours have not only set buds (normally they do this in late August and start blooming in September and continue into October.) but are blooming now--or at least the biggest, oldest one is.
Mel--I have a whole lot of problems spelling lily to say nothing of lillies where those i's and ll run together. Glad to hear I'm not the only one.
And lilies come in a huge variety of colors, sizes and even to some degree in shapes (and they are not at all related to day lilies--which also come in an equally huge variety of color, combination of colors and sizes but not in what the flowers look like).
Ah, the cloud cover finally is thinning and going away--I'll take a nap to celebrate.

I'm not sure I've ever really seen pink lilies before?? I must have, but I can't remember when; all I think of when I think "lily" is Easter lily. But you can really see why day lilies are called lilies, when you compare them to these. The flowers do look very similar. |
Incidentally, does anyone else have trouble spelling "lilies"? I never know if it is one "l' or two, and in typescript, the l's and i's run together so it looks wrong no matter what.
The missus' flowers look lovely. She has a way with plants, I think.

Some backyard fireworks.... |
Have you ever seen lilies this big? These are in our neighbor's yard, and they're about 8 feet tall. Beautiful beautiful plants!
Yesterday they brought us some of their giant yellow lilies, which Mrs. TN now has in a vase on our deck
And I know I posted some of these before, the container competition Mrs. TN and I are having and which she's winning, hands down. I already threw in the towel. Here's hers, freshly planted the 25th of May.
And here it is yesterday

Ha yeah - under the desk or on the leather sofa is Mila's current safe places....but the closet sounds like a good place to try.
Will have some sort of white noise in the background. While I was outside working in the yard (painting the foundation) and my wife went to the store we had a Jazz channel on Youtube playing while Mila was inside

That was cruel TN--posting the picture of the yummy looking brisket when I'm still stuck with eating no-chew stuff because of the missing molar and the hole it left must be protected. I sure looked good though--made me drool. |
Denny, can't you just plug the computer in somewhere else. Or is that receptical the only one that handles internet? Mmmmm or is that the place you have to be to get reception.
LaDi--cracked me up, your description of Hoss zipping by where treats were hidden and having to go back and redo the scent areas. And yes, that was a really nice run-on sentence--and you all know I'm the past master of those so my opinion is actually worth something.
Let's see--what else is going on--not much at the moment--the loaner, Joey has a new behavior that will eventually drive me insane--because I won't hold toys and bones and stuff for him to chew on--he first worked out a system of balancing a couple of his favorite chew toys on one of the legs of the spider the chair at the desk has--and after I checked about a million times to make sure it wasn't the spider itself that he was chewing on he has revamped that system to include one of my feet in the holding position--he paws at me until I move my foot and then I find he has me pinned between a leg of the spider, his two big feet and the toy. Yesterday he took my slipper off to make this work better.
This dog is entirely too clever for his own good. Now to add to that list of things that Ken is collecting, that you say to new puppies, he can add my most recent two: "Let go of my slipper..." and "Stop pawing at my foot--I'm not helping you hold that wishbone no matter what you do..."
It's late enough I can go mow the danged lawns again--better than mowing ditches. We do appreciate your endeavors to keep the farm and field looking it's best though, Ken.
Happy 4th of July you all--be safe--don't blow any fingers off with fire crackers and no big parties and wash yer hands, this danged COVID-19 isn't through with us yet...
