Hmmmm This sounds pretty good Maybe even better with some garlic powder and red cayenne pepper mixed in with the ground crackers...

Oh, and I meant to comment on this one.
That is one thing Kenny REALLY does well...the artful misspelling. (and sometimes I believe it is actually done on purpose...hmmm, ECIN??)

melbrod Back to Lannie's DH not eating....I read somewhere that if a person's sense of smell weakens, or goes away completely, they often lose their appetite. That can go along with chronic congestion, sinus problems, or more rarely with other nasty things. Maybe something to think about??

Of course, working on a farm with livestock, it might be better NOT to have a sense of smell.

melbrod Give Sypha a (gentle) hug for me (when I was proofreading, I noticed I typed "jug". I wasn't really recommending you give her a dose of moonshine though. I'd suggest it for you, except seems to me I remember alcohol makes your headaches worse. How about a nice hot bubble bath?? With no added scents--those make even my head hurt.)

Anyway, back to Sypha--she should heal pretty fast, but that doesn't mean it is easy being a mom-nurse until she does. Hang in there, MC. (And there I go, back to you again.)

I hear you about cooking for people who don't appreciate it, Lannie. I have a recipe vaguely like the one you mention with fish, only it uses chicken, sour cream and Cheese Nips crackers. I love it; everyone else in my family thinks it is gross. I comfort myself with the knowledge that SOMEONE out there must have liked it to put it into a cookbook.

Probably just as well I don't cook it though. I imagine it is totally unhealthy.

MeadowCat Morning, everyone.

Well, big day yesterday - Sypha got spayed. We had intended to also do a gastropexy, but she had some trouble with the anesthesia. My vet called from the OR as soon as she finished up the spay and asked me how important the 'pexy was to me, and said she just had this gut feeling she should wrap it up and get her back out. Of course I said follow your gut - I trust her 100%. We've had about a decade long relationship - she treats my pets as if they are her own. So she finished up and no 'pexy. Sypha came through okay, and she's recovering and resting well. She clearly doesn't feel "well", but she has pain medication and is taking it easy. It's tough to see them not their normal selves.

These sorts of situations are exactly why I am such an advocate for veterinarians - they really do put our animals first. It's so important to build a relationship with a vet. Treasure your vets, folks, be an advocate for them. Vets are bombarded lately with so much, and they deserve our support.

He doesn't care about food. There's something WRONG with him. He rarely ever feels hungry, and I think if I didn't feed him on a regular basis, he just wouldn't eat. But I'll spend hours in the kitchen making something fancy, and then I have to fish for compliments when we're eating.

Me: Isn't this GOOD? Wow, it turned out even better than I thought!

Rich: Eh, it's OK.

What's even worse is a few times he's actually said "Eh, I don't really like it very much." And I mean I don't make crap food, I make good stuff. But he's just as happy eating a can of chili. It's a mystery to me... We've been together (officially married) for 21 years, and I'm still not used to it. I would never let on to him, but it hurts my feelings when he says stuff like that. Then on the other hand, when he actually LIKES something, like the fish and chips last night, it makes me feel like a million bucks!

He wasn't always this way, though. Back in the day, he enjoyed food, and appreciated my cooking. It was when he got to be an old curmudgeon that he seems to have lost interest in food.

Do you not have dental insurance?
I know exactly how much you understand, sweetie, and no, no dental insurance. The previous dentist would give us a 5% discount for paying cash, but I HATE that dentist, he's a crotchety old, rude, condescending azz. If he was the only choice, I wouldn't go at all. The other dentist is nice and acts like he enjoys his work (he laughs and makes jokes and makes me feel comfortable), however he doesn't give a discount for cash, and he's marginally more expensive, but I'd rather have to pay a little more and not be miserable. I figure, why should I PAY someone good money to insult me and treat me like dirt? I shouldn't have to, so I pay a little more to be treated like an actual human.

Ewwww, TN had lesions? (Sorry, but that made me laugh pretty hard! Misspellings can be pretty hysterical, if they're done well!)

I have a recipe for SP that's pretty simple, and I consider filling. I tried it last night for the first time and it was REALLY GOOD, so I'll tell you what I did if anyone wants to try it.

Fish fillets (I used cod 'cause it's cheap) and roasted potatoes. Like fish & chips, but better.

Season the fish on one side and spread mayo on it in a thick layer, then crush crackers (I just used saltines) coarsely and press on as a "crust." Flip the fish over and do the same thing again, then lay the pieces on an oiled baking sheet.

Meanwhile thinly slice (like 1/8" thin) a russet potato. I used my old Veg-O-Matic (oh, now you know how old I am!), but a mandolin slicer would give nice even slices, too, unless you're really good with a knife. The only reason they should be uniformly thick is so they're all done about the same time, it's not a REQUIREMENT or anything. Toss the potato slices in a bowl with olive oil and salt so that all the slices are coated, and lay them out on the baking sheet beside the fish in rows, slightly overlapping if you have to so they'll all fit. I put a little pepper on mine, but hey, they're potatoes, go crazy, try any kind of seasoning on them.

*Note: The potato slices stuck to my pan, in spite of using plenty of oil on the potatoes AND on the pan, so if you have parchment paper, maybe put a sheet of that down on the pan first. You still want oil on the potatoes so they'll brown.

Heat the oven to 425F and pop the pan in there for 20 to 30 minutes depending on how big the fish pieces are and how thick your potatoes are sliced. Mine took 25 minutes total last night until the potatoes were done, and the fish was golden brown and perfect. (The fish didn't stick to the pan at all!) There's no need to turn anything, just put the pan in and check for doneness after 20 minutes or so and adjust accordingly.

I made some tartar sauce to go with the fish, but the crust was very crispy and yummy and it really didn't need it. And it made me full. Even my not-interested-in-food husband liked it and asked if I'd make it again, and he usually isn't impressed by much. I'm a very good cook and I feel my talents are wasted on him because he doesn't care, so when he says he actually LIKES something, I must have hit a home run. Anyway, that was simple, easy to fix, and tasted really good.

I don't like chopped up movies.

That should impress Kenny's wife even more.
Yes, all the video clips will be within the same song.

Nope...today is my short Friday (I get off one hour early) and next Friday is my day off

I pretty much work the same schedule as modm...we're allowed to work an alternate work schedule where we put in an extra hour a day and then we get a day off every 2 weeks. Week 1, Monday - Thursday = 9 hours, Friday is 8 hours. Week 2, Monday - Thurday, 9 hours, Friday off.

Yep every other Friday as long as I get at least 80 hours in 9 days....which is easy to do. Very nice gives 3 day weekends!! But if something goes wrong at work then I have to stay that Friday as well....

Book work is not a lot of fun! But is a good time to put on some music while you work

modm Good morning all!

Raining 42 degs which I got to go out in when I walked Mila this morning

Day off today - piano lesson which I am not prepared for even though only had a couple of assignments.

O Sole Mio! by Capua https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0tkAN6J5MQ

A more complicated piano version Eduardo Di Capua - O Sole Mio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB9Gf2tsfCk

Classical singing of the O Sole Mio - Andrea Bocelli- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O09Bxj_KHk Luciano Pavarotti also sings it but I think I like Bocelli better

What a beautiful thing is a sunny day!
The air is serene after a storm,
The air is so fresh that it already feels like a celebration.
What a beautiful thing is a sunny day!

But another sun, even more beauteous, oh my sweetheart,[10]
My own sun, shines from your face!
This sun, my own sun,
Shines from your face; It shines from your face!

Your window panes shine;
A laundress is singing and boasting about it;
And while she's wringing the clothes, hanging them up to dry, and singing,
Your window panes shine.

When night comes and the sun has gone down,
I almost start feeling melancholy;
I'd stay below your window
When night comes and the sun has gone down.

Or you can go with Elvis Presley - Its Now or Never https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0-FBlfvgxo

It's now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it's now or never
My love won't wait.

When I first saw you
with your smile so tender
My heart was captured,
my soul surrendered
I'd spend a lifetime
waiting for the right time
Now that your near
the time is here at last.

It's now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it's now or never
My love won't wait.

Just like a willow,
we would cry an ocean
If we lost true love
and sweet devotion
Your lips excite me,
let your arms invite me
For who knows when
we'll meet again this way

It's now or never,
come hold me tight
Kiss me my darling,
be mine tonight
Tomorrow will be too late,
it's now or never
My love won't wait.

melbrod Meat Pie??
You'll need:

Double pie crust--for both bottom and top of pie (I use store bought--I don't think it really matters for this kind of recipe)
1 pound hamburger meat
1 onion
1 large carrot
A few ribs of celery 1/2-2/3 cup chopped
2-ish garlic cloves
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2-2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Spices (salt, blk and red pepper...optional oregano, cumin, marjoram)

Brown 1 pound hamburger lightly

Add chopped medium onion, one large carrot grated, 1/2-2/3 cup chopped celery, minced garlic (a couple of cloves). Cook slightly. (if you have a non-celery lover, add less, cut it finer--it will still be slightly raw/not quite crunchy when done. It won't have quite the same flavor, but that's just the way it is. You'd probably need a little though)

Add one can cream of mushroom soup, 1/2-2/3 cups grated parmesan cheese, about 1 tsp salt, black pepper, red pepper...optional oregano, cumin, marjoram. Thin with milk if necessary (I don't think I ever do)

Stir well and pour into pie crust. Add crust on top, cut slits.

Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes til crust is brown (I always put the dish on a cookie sheet because sometimes it drips if crust isn't sealed very well, and it is also easier to pull it out of the oven.)

Fairly filling but sorta heavy...probably not a one dish meal...maybe add a veggie too.
