Lexx has become quite a pro now and last night casually walked up to a cheese filled kong, placed his paw on one end and rolled the kong to one side so the hole end was in the air and he just stood there casually lapping away at it holding it with the one foot. Snack balls are fun too and come in different shapes and sizes. you fill them with a bit of kibble or something else dry and let the enjoyment start as your Dobe really uses his brain to extract the contents. Lexx has a couple of different ones and likes rolling them down our legs whilst we sit on the sofa to get the contents to fall out. |

What I do if I need to keep Ruger busy for a while, is get a bag of frozen puppy food (we use Bil-Jak, because it's soft) and he just GOES NUTS over it. We always keep a small bag in the frig just in case, and since it is soft, you can shove a lot in there, and it is tricky to get out, and since it is only puppy food, its ok of he chows down. But theres nothing better to keep a puppy busy than a good, smelly, frozen, SOCK! ![]() |

With Athena, she did gain a couple pounds when I first started using the Kongs a lot, so I backed off of the PB for her and use more FF cream cheese, kibble, milk bones and fruit. She easily lost those couple pounds. Both dogs get Kongs at the same time, usually 3-4 times a week. Bully sticks the other days, but usually one "long lasting" treat a day so I can do laundry, dishes, etc... |

Kept him content even when I was leaving him alone for the day. |

You can actually get a Kong dispenser that holds 4 prefilled Kongs and releases them either 1 every hour or 1 every 2 hours. Just be sensible and don't over feed. |

I forgot to add that the Bill Jac Gooberlicious treats are GREAT for stopping up the hole in the end. They are peanut butter flavored treats and are very squishy and pliable without falling apart. Also- we keep a jar of pb just for Bo- it's got BO'S DO NOT EAT written all over it! unless you just use one spoonful of pb you'll want one just for the puppy ![]() |

Wow - I feel bad - Vader doesn't get such fancy treats in his kong. Lately I put a slice of cheese in with a treat or two. If I run out of cheese he'll get pb - but I am not responsible enough to freeze them. He gets one in his crate when we leave in the am. I have used frozen ground meat before. |

alwayshadpets | If you don`t want too many added calories you can add vegegtables--green beans, carrots etc. etc. to the peanut butter or? |

Duke and Mia LOVE the frozen peanut butter! But they also like frozen cream cheese that is fat free or occasionally I might do like frozen yogurt or something in there too but not too often. Easy cheese every once and a while. You can get pre made Kong Treat stuff to put in there and freeze as well. ![]() |

errica | The fruit salad was a big hit! Both dogs loved the fruit and the frozen banana mush that I sealed it up with. It took them about 45 minutes to get everything out. |

Okay, I found a recipe for fruit salad for a Kong, and it's hot here today so I made this for both dogs, and they are in the freezer now. 1/2 apple 1/2 orange 4 strawberries I chopped all this up and smushed it into both kongs. I use Large sized Kongs and had some leftover. Then I mashed 1/2 banana with 2 tbs of peanut butter and used that to fill the ends. Then threw them in cups and into the freezer. The pups will get these in about 3 hours. I offered up the leftovers to the dogs to see what they thought and they both really liked it. I think they'll be happy with it, but I'll let you know for sure. * you could totally use cream cheese instead of PB, but I had the PB handy! |
