Smacks Yeah that's right.

Rosemary Anyone else doing any coursing this year? I'm hoping to take Leo and Lily to the Cirneco dell'Etna Club of America's CATs being held in Conroe, TX. They are having one on 12-2, two on 12-3, and another on 12-4. There are others listed for Texas, but they are too far away to spend two (or more) nights in a motel for only one run a day.

The Cirneco dell'Etna Club CATs in 2013 were the first ones I entered Ilka in, so I'd like to get Leo's and Lily's titles from them, if possible. Leo already has one leg.

eegreen Congrats!

engstrom Congrats on Richter's CAA MeadowCat. Especially nice that he did it in his own particular style! As The Bard said in Hamlet - To Thine Own Self Be True.

MeadowCat Richter earned his CAA yesterday. I am retiring him from coursing now. He's such a maniac on the coursing field and he's had two previous toe injuries (unrelated to coursing) that I worry about him injuring himself. He finished in typical Richter style...barely got him to the line he was so excited - howling and bucking like a bronco, etc.

Dobe_Mom I haven't updated in a long while. Last fall Pilgrim DPCA put on a fantastic day of CATs in Massachusetts. Very well run event that was a complete success. Jossie completed her CA title that day and has 4 legs under her belt. Jessie completed 2 more legs and only needs one more for the CAA title. Hopefully we will find an event nearby in spring and get that finished.

Despite having purchased two generators/lure machines, there was line break after line break after line break before full generator shut down. They moved to the second generator Saturday afternoon only to still experience line break after line break. They went through 3 packs of the line before finally canceling for Saturday. Hottie got in 1 run.

Sunday didn't even happen. They canceled the event due to small knicks in the flywheels eating up the line. Because I suppose testing your brand new equipment prior to hosting a trial is too much to ask.

I DID bring the pups to coursing because it was just an awesome socialization opportunity. They were a big hit and met tons of people, handled the hysterical dogs like champs (Auntie Hottie included), got a chance to see lots of dog breeds they've never seen before, and exposed to so many sights and sounds. So it wasn't all a fail.

While at the HAHA trial, I got the premium for the two CAT's that the Afghan Hound Club of Austin (AHCoA) will be hosting the first weekend of March in Florence (just past Austin). We will definitely be there. That club rarely has any issues and everything runs smoothly.
Sounds like we didn't miss much. LeeLoo was deemed too fat to run again. She got her first run in and were told she wouldn't be allowed to run in the second and not to bother with Sunday as we'll be told the same thing. Yes, she is overweight. Her physical in November has her at a 6/9. She is on a diet until we can get her down to her running weight. We are contemplating getting our own equipment so she can run in the backyard. She is spayed and doesn't need the titles, and to be honest, it was fun to watch the dogs but the hassle that has been associated with that particular event doesn't make it worth it.

That's just infuriating. At least it was good puppy socialization, I guess, so not at total loss.

the_discowhore Both of my dogs are just embarrassing at coursing!

Ping has only been once, and as soon as he saw what was going on he started SCREAMING! Being such a little dog it's a really high pitched and distressed sounding scream, and he flails and kicks trying to get away from you! So naughty!! Elsie is even worse, she barks constantly, spins in her crate, bites her crate etc.... She has twice pooped herself at coursing in her crate as she is SO worked up, she won't toilet when being walked as she is so busy trying to get away! Even if you put blankets up, it's the sound that makes her crazy!
02-06-2016 02:11 AM
the_discowhore Ping and Elsie are both qualified for coursing now so they can compete!

We're hosting our first ever judged meet in March - for both sighthounds and non hounds, I'm very nervous but excited! Hoping my event runs smoothly... Finding paddocks is so blimmin hard!!!
02-05-2016 11:08 PM
FeWill So excited for tomorrow. LeeLoo should be able to get her first title. BlackJack is going to give it a try. Not excited about getting up at 5:30AM to get chores done before we go but nothing a nap can't fix later.
01-22-2016 12:56 PM
Dobiewankanobi We'll be there too. I may have the puppies with me. Haven't decided yet but it would be a good socialization opportunity.
01-20-2016 09:10 PM
FeWill We are going to register for the Richmond one. Just need to drop it in the mail tomorrow. Going to give my little mix BlackJack a try at it too. At 10 yo and a shorty hopefully he'll be able to handle the veteran run.

Looks like they don't have a website.... Checking on the AKC Events Calendar, it says to contact the Event Secretary Ms. Janet Milam, at [email protected] for more information, so you need to email her, and ask for a premium list.

Dobiewankanobi Yes. Ashleigh had Orca.

You missed the Orca jail break on Saturday. She somehow backed out of her coursing slip, hit the field during the middle of a Shepherd's run and slammed into the Shepherd full speed. She did not brake. She did not swerve. It was brutal. Thankfully no one was hurt but Ashleigh was punished. We were all on Whippet Security the next day to make sure there was not another incident.

Ashleigh has quite a way with the dogs. Mine just love her.

FeWill Thanks for the info Rosemary. That's exactly what I was looking for.

I'll start with the nylon and when we stick with it I'll be able to convince DH to let me kick it up to the next level on cost. Maybe a couple of rope burns that render me unable to cook or do dishes will get me a leather one sooner.

I learned my lesson and will sign up early next time. I'm glad I didn't run the first day and waited to run on Sunday for the first time. There were still a lot of people though.

Was the little girl that ran Orca in your group? At least I think she ran her, I know she was holding her at some point. LeeLoo loved her. LeeLoo was sleeping at my feet and got up to lay in front of her feet. She was also giving her lots of dober-kisses.

The only thing I forgot to bring with me was sunscreen. I am a lobster today.

Dobiewankanobi Yes. Mine are from Hogan Leather. Nylon is a no-go for me. Burns me bad!

We were there, AuraDobes was there...many many others. Just in our little group there were at least 11 Dobes.

My Koa earned his CAX and Siri ran legs 29-32 towards her CAX2. Sadly Hottie was 16 days shy of the age requirement and after multiple equipment failures there was no time for a puppy run.

I will say some of the club members were the rudest I've ever encountered. It would take a lot to make me enter an event with them again.

To be fair, a club member told me they expected no more than HALF the entries they received on each day. There were 135 just for the very first runs. So, hopefully in the future they'll consider an entry limit.

Rosemary She certainly looks like she was having fun. I love seeing a natural dog.

Colorful Collars makes lure slips. Colorful Collars Home

So does Fuzzy Wumpets. Home

Hogan Leather makes leather slip leads. Custom Leather Dog Collars ? Custom Leather Dog Leashes ? Custom Leather Dog Martingales ? Custom Leather Dog Leads ? Custom Leather Dog Harness | Hogan Custom Leather (I believe that's the slip that Dobiwan uses)

There's a few other places you can find them, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

FeWill Where do you buy your coursing collar, quick release collars? I bought a slip lead but it didn't give me much control when I held it like reins to make it quick release. She almost ducked her head out early on her second run. I saw a bunch of nice big D-ring collars with the lead through them. Mine was a rope style from Petco that gave me a rope burn periodically when she got excited.

FeWill She loves it! She's a natural.
