Hey, I got a GSD before I had done much more than basic research on the breed. They (along with several others) were on my radar as a "some day" breed, just like the Doberman was. I decided I wanted a Dobe more than a GSD, and joined here to learn as much as I could. I wound up rescuing a GSD puppy this past year, instead of looking into adopting a Dobe next year.

Odin's_Master Welcome! There is no better place to learn about Dobermans then on DT. Can't wait to see pics!

Vormund15 Please, soak up as much info on the breed as possible. The DPCA website is very helpful and will also help you understand and research the breed.

Good luck and please post pics!!!

EmilyB Do you have other dogs? You should be aware that there is a problem with same sex aggression in the breed, males especially.

My cousin has owned Doberman's and also a good friend has owned them, so I know a little bout their character, but they have only had that dog and no other dogs where living with them, so I don't know much about multiple dogs in the same house. That's why i signed up here to learn more about the breed before I adopt one!

I second the above post. Are you truly rescuing or are you purchasing?

What breeder are you going through?
I'm adopting from a lady here in Albuquerque,nm that rescued a pregnant doberman, who will be having puppies very shortly. She has seen pics of the father, but hasnt seen him in person.

EmilyB Welcome to DT.

Adopting means you are rescuing a puppy, is this the case? Or are you buying a puppy?

Hello everyone!

Hi,

I'm in the process of adopting a new doberman puppy in 10 weeks when they are able to leave their mom. So I thought I'd get jump start and start learning more about the breed while I wait!
