NO way was I having this nice lady - my senior by 20 years push me around or anybody else ! Yes - to much pride The gal at the lab was great - lol we had lots of laughs - I have been there before and never had the same one draw blood - I asked if she had every done this before - She replied that this was her first day ! Sure would be great to see a current picture of the OG !

They have this wonderous new thing now called "Digital Photography" which allows even Luddites to upload pics to an interweb forum...

When I told my DW that a DT member's Dobe made it to age 14, she said:

"OMG - Five More Years of THIS ?????"

Now my DW brought Mr. Spocko out on leash in garage (mistake) when owners came by and he acted like a knucklehead, doing his Dobe yodel: "Oooh aah, Oooh aah, Ooooooh aaaah" as if he'd never seen another young female before...

I explained to my DW that Spock was just saying to the young female husky: "Welcome to our house, young lady, I'm trapped here with old female bittys who yell at me all the time" My DW didn't think that was funny at all....

Spock and Eva will have a break next week from school visits due to holiday vacation period.
However, during 1st two weeks in Dec their schedule is loaded including:

(3) Regular weekly E. S. Read With Me Visits
(1) Career Day presentation at E. S. - Spock (5 x 4th grade classes- 2 hrs.)
(1) Senior Center visit & presentation- Eva (already made a prelim visit)
(3) College De-Stress visits- Both Spock & Eva (UTSA, UIW, St.MarysU)
(1) School District awards ceremony - Spock (for 1.5 yrs. volunteer work)

That look is so true - seen it many a times! Probably just after I stopped petting! The head flips back so fast

I'm trapped here with old female bittys

I bet Spock and Eva are happy to get out and see the world!

Soldier Son--Yes, he didn't have a choice--his problem was part of who he was, a necessary part, and the world he was born into rejected him for that. But he had a harder time accepting himself; I don't think he was as rebellious as Fitz. He bought into his world's disgust with him more.

Fitz was rejected by his society because of the Wit, which was, of course, an important part of who he was; similarly he felt that he had no choice but to use the wit. But I could understand that because I enjoyed his relationship with Nighteyes so much.

I guess I was just more in tune with the Wit than I was with SS's inborn "talent"? SS's struggle and self-disgust were a little too graphically emphasized for me, especially in the first book; now that I think of it, I had some of the same unaccepting attitude as his world did toward him.

Which I guess means that Hobb actually pretty effectively emphasized the magnitude of the guy's difficulties and how hard it was for him to come to terms with them by the negatives in my thinking she revealed to me (surprising for me to realize, since I struggle with the same difficulties on a much smaller scale.)

Thanks for the early morning up short you just put me through.

I need to reread the books too--I bet I'd like them better now that I see where the storyline was going and can be aware of my own biases too.

Edited to add:
I think there are 4 Rain Wild books?? But they're smaller; even with four, I don't think the series is as long as the other. To me, they were a definite add-on afterthought...or at least had that flavor.

AND, some of the books I read I have to go over several times to remember any of it (nonfiction-ish).

(Look at that--I'm caught the practice of a comma after "and" from SP. But sometimes it really does work.)

And hey!! Don't pick on my sleeping habits. To bed at about 4 AM last night and up at 7AM...I'm going short today. I was about that short yesterday too...I don't know what has gotten into me. Anyway, if I don't show up tomorrow until it's afternoon, I deserve the extra sleep. phbbbbtt......

Sorry to cause you "the early morning up short you just put me through. " 3 hours of sleep - definitely going short!

Once I get through the books I am trying to read- I will start back with Robin Hobbs. Books I am reading - Sovereign of the Seven Isles by David A. Wells....it is a 7 book series. I am on the 3rd book Mindbender....the series is only ok but have started them so will try and finish.

One comments from someone about the series:
"I have to say, this book is an enigma. There is so much not good about it, but somehow I kept turning the pages and finished it fairly quick. "

Seems the stars are either 1 or 2 or 4 or 5 with just a few in between

Basic principle the main character and others are living by and fighting the bad guys over.

The Old Law: "You have a right to your life because you are alive. You have a right to your liberty because you have free will. You have a right to your property because it is the product of your labor. You forfeit these rights when you take them from another.”

I also like to re-read books - one to pick up things I missed and two as you state Mel - a comfort thing.

I like the thinking anime - Just see the wheels turning or you pacing back and forth

Unrelated News- We rescued a stray young husky female puppy yesterday and reunited with owner in a few hours. (Lots of Husky owners in area- seem to always be loose on NextDoor postings) I used chip ID tag on collar to call her in as found and notify owners. Her name is Bella and was a perfect sweety, coming up for affection and taking treats and water. I tethered her on front mat, where I normally sit Eva. We introduced her to Lanah and she was a bit scared.

When I walked Eva in yard to see Bella from distance she was very interested and non aggressive. However she seemed to say in dog talk: "Don't bring that young beatch in this house, I'm the Diva here!!!

Now my DW brought Mr. Spocko out on leash in garage (mistake) when owners came by and he acted like a knucklehead, doing his Dobe yodel: "Oooh aah, Oooh aah, Ooooooh aaaah" as if he'd never seen another young female before...

I explained to my DW that Spock was just saying to the young female husky: "Welcome to our house, young lady, I'm trapped here with old female bittys who yell at me all the time" For some reason, my DW didn't think that was funny at all....

Pet Supply Store Ferret Rant- WTH? Was in checkout line at our local Pet Supplies Plus store getting (more) dog food with Spock. Then I (and Spock) noticed they had several ferrets in a cage close to checkout lines, where lots of dogs are brought through daily. Mr. Spock had never seen ferret(s) so of course barked as to say "WTH are those little furry things?" Went through same line with Eva next day and ferrets were sleeping and she ignored them, but did smell. I did mention to manager that placing any small animals near checkout lines was not a smart thing...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

More-Ferret Related I couldn't sleep and logged in at 0430- Mel was still online and just getting to sleep! Good thing she has ferrets.... (Always a good GIF subject...)

alan j. Bug , Way to go, you do know how to enjoy a dobe.

He looked to be a real stud back in the day , congrats to a dobe milestone!

"I ain't as good as I once was
I got a few years on me now
But there was a time back in my prime
When I could really lay it down
And if you need some love tonight
Then I might have just enough
I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was"

Beaumont67 You're So Vain
Carly Simon

You walked into the party
Like you were walking on a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf, it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror
And watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain,
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you?
Don't you?

Oh, you had me several years ago
When I was still naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, you're so vain
I'll bet…

**Addition to the article, the Fitz and Fool Trilogy they mention is complete now.

In the World of the Elderlings books (that's the world Fitz is in), there are the three Fitz trilogies (chronological order: Farseer, Tawny Man, Fitz and Fool) and the Liveship Traders trilogy (same world, different culture and "magic" elements) which are must reads, IMO. There are some minor overlaps in events and timelines, and at least one major linkage [Amber, tee hee--I'm not sure at what point you find how she fits into all of the Fitz books]

And also the Rain Wild Chronicle, which I didn't think was quite as good as those 4 trilogies, though I read it enjoyably enough, and it does fill in some empty spots and ties in with some of the stuff in her last series.

My daughter, disagrees with the article and says to read them in the order Hobb wrote them. (Which is the order I read them in, because I read them as they came out, and waited eagerly for the next.) So the next trilogy you would read is the Liveship Traders, which will take you away from Fitz for a bit, but is worth it in its own right. I think one of the main characters in that trilogy was the most intriguingly developed one in all of her books...he's a fairly nasty self-absorbed sort who does things totally for his own benefit which turn out to be good for other people--they adore him and assign to him the best motives in the world. It's debatable whether he has a kind heart underneath and has been twisted by life, or whether he's just an out and out rotter.

So if you go with my daughter's recommendation, it would be:
Farseer, Liveship Traders, Tawny Man, Rain Wild Chronicles, and finally the Fitz and Fool series.

That may be it...at least the last book in the Fitz and Fool books (Assasin's Fate) seems to tie up loose ends from all of those series. And its ending made me cry, but not just because it was the end of the series.

Soldier Son is a different world...I wasn't that much in sympathy with the main character, but it had some good "magical" world development in it. Worth reading.
Thanks, Mel I started 'The Institute' today, and as soon as I'm done with that (and it's pretty good so far), Liveship Traders is in the queue

AIEEEEEEE!!! DT, Windows 10 and dial up have all conspired to drive me crazy...I DID start an announcement thread--DT ate it--I had already loaded it and DT just pretended that it couldn't find the page.

At this point, I'm too cold and too irritated and can't even go to the library today because they are closed to complete a new roofing project.

I hear someone has a big Toad tribute up on Facebook/Foxfire Dobermans--I'll be back when I can go do this at the library--until then--BAH HUMBUG!!
