Help Needed for my new pup

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a new Dobe and she is 14 weeks old. Can I still have her ears cropped? I have heard that you should not have the ears cropped after 10 weeks old. Is this true? Please advise.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! I didn't really answer your question but did tell you what I knew of cropping at a later age (which is basically nothing). Tell us more about yourself and your dogs! We'd love to see pictures :-)

Welcome to the forum

I'm no expert. So I have no idea when the cut off age is. I know when I had my Bruno's ears done they told me no later then 10 weeks. He was 9 weeks I believe when we had his ears done.

Sorry I'm no help. I'm sure someone on here will be of great help tho

12 weeks is usually the cut off date. (no pun intended) But I have heard of them being done at 14 weeks. I wouldn't do it unless you have a VERY good and experienced vet that has a good rep with ears. I would also want to see pictures of ears that he has cropped.

I had Sasha done at 14 weeks and the only reason her one ear didnt stand was because my other 2 dogs couldnt help me keep her calm long enough for it to heal. If you pup is an only dog i would say go for it depending on what cut you want. The skinnier and taller the cut you go the harder it will be to get them to stand because the cartilage is almost to the point where it is too late. If you go with a bigger bell look there is more of a likelyhood of it standing. I say this because it is my experience since my friend has Sashas brother Sarge and his ears were ALOT harder to keep up and they are more of the show crop and Sasha is more of the sport cut(bigger bell)

I talked to a couple vets that I have worked with and they stated that 14 weeks is the max they would go. The only issue they see is that it may take a little longer for the ears to stand.

Thanks to all....

Welcome to the forum! This is such a great place to find out information that you are looking for. I agree with everyone else. It is best to talk to several vets to see what they think. I have had vets that will do it all the way to 16 weeks. Well, good luck and keep us informed.

Hello, Im new to this. but i had talked to my vet about getting my babys ears done also and they told me between 12-16 weeks. and i thaughtt hat was cutting it close you know since i been reading pup getting them done from 8-10 weeks. But i have seen the work he has done and from what ive seen he has had alot of success with his croppings. he is also giving me two free wrappings after my pup gets cropped.
But i guess it all depends on the vet doing the ears from what ive read and people ive spoken to. By breeder said that he had both his dogs done (mother and father to my baby) at 3 months (12 weeks) and both there ears look great.
Since my vet said 12-16 weeks im making an appointment ahead of time to take him up the day he turns 3 months.
Thanks for letting me share my opinons.
Jamie.

It depends on what condition the Ears are in and your Vet. I would say in most cases it can be done with no problem.
