Another Dobe in Joisey

Hey guys. Came across the site a while ago, just got around to registering. We got our blue almost 3 months ago and she is now 5 months old today. As you guessed her name is Stella. We had a little skin issue but after trying a couple different meds and going through lots of tests, I think we got it covered now. Of course now she is going through a bout of round and whip worms, but other than that, she is great! High energy, very smart and like me, very stubborn. We start training in January though and she will soon become the model dobe!

Anyway, just saying hi.

Rich

Hi and welcome Rich to the world's best forum! I hope that you will find us, friendly, supportive, and a little nutty too.. I also have a blue Doberman Female "Iris" who is 19 months.. We also had troubles with whipworms and hair loss when we got her in July.. also she was 20lbs underweight..You may want to try the following website about vitamins for Blues.. I know that it has made a world of difference in my girl Iris..
Here is the website.. http://www.seattle-attorney.com/storm/sup.html

Welcome to the Forum.....Its good to see another Joiseyian here, we have a few already. What exit? (sorry, old jersey joke) I have a 14 month black/rust female named Nikita. Good luck in the training. We had our girl in class at 4 months in a puppy kindergarden class and it was amazing what she actually learned from it. A model dobe is a great goal. I felt that by owning a doberman, I had more of a responsibility than the average dog owner due to their reputation. I want to have an Ambassador to the Breed. Welcome to the forum and make sure you add yourself to the frappr map.....

Welcome, Rich and Stella. I'm Paul and I have 2 black/rust females. Sasha will be 2 on Dec 7, and Darmok will be 3 on Dec 9. They are my life! Dobes are so much fun to train---just remember, it's supposed to be FUN for the both of you! Darmok was easy to train--she just ate it up, wanted to learn more and more all the time. Sasha was, or rather is, a little more hard-headed, but we're making progress, and it's still fun for us! I have the same feeling as Kratty: if you own a Dobe, you and your dog shoud be a good ambassador for the breed. My neighbors were a little skeptical at first about me having 2 dobermans, but they soon changed their feelings about them. The neighbor kids all come over to play on Darmok's agility obstacles with her!!! It's so good to have people respect your dog out of admiration for it instead of fear of it!

I am looking forward to the training. I grew up around dogs my whole like (English Setter, German Shepard, Beagle mix and a complete mutt) but always wanted a blue Dobe. I knew they were different (smarter, more work, etc) but was ready for it. I'll tell you, she is very unique. I know she is a puppy but I think, that she thinks, that she is the "alpha". We are working on that and I think she is learning that I am "head of the house" but she still walks all over my girlfriend so our current task is breaking her of that, along with not having her jump on everyone. She is very smart but so stubborn and only really does things if she wants too. In the short time I have worked with her she has learned so much so quickly. Things like touch, sit, down, her name (attention), stay and come (still working on them, but she knows them). So if she can pick these up that quick with just me working on her, I am looking forward to what she can learn in training classes.

Thanks for the website on the vitamins. I have been over it a lot lately, with her bumps and whatnot. We currently have her on supplements as well as Innova food. Shampooing is rough as she HATES it but it is done. The extra steps taken, along with the latest medication the vet gave us has completely cleared up her skin, at least for now. I am skeptical because we have gone through so much already. But this is the first time since we got her I can pet her and not feel anything and she looks great!

HAHA that is great. Yes, I am in Boonton! Born and raised in Denville, moved to Boonton last year with the girlfriend. I work in Morris Plains.

I thank the area we live and work in for helping persuade my girlfriend into wanting a Doberman. She passes a woman who walks her 2 dobes every day going to work and then passes another guy who runs every morning with his dobe by where we work.

Implementing "nothing in life is free" will really help establish yourself as "leader of the pack" and will probably help Stella respect your girlfriend.
Here's a link that describes the concept: http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm

I have to tell you, every time I read one of your posts, all I can see is Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski wailing "Stella!!!!" :-)

Hi there Rich & the lovely Stella, gidday from Australia. My girl is a black and tan 3 year old, answers to the name Jeddah.

Good to hear you're having success with skin problems. Our last dog was a Rottie, and we had major problems with her skin during our summer months! My husband ended up treating her with just good old Sorbolene......and it worked. He massaged it into her coat twice a day, and she regained full hair growth. Maybe we should market the idea to balding men!
