Found one

I am new to the forum. I live in Northern Japan. My wife and searched for a Dobie and found that there are only a few (4) breeders in Japan. They are all in Southern Japan. Luckely after a few months of working through a translator, we found our girl. She has been with us for two months now and she is just losing her teeth. She is going through the ringer now...just at the last stage of her ears healing and dew claw removal. It is difficult to get Japanese vets to cut anything on a dog.

She has a few things wrong with her right now: scar tissue from chewing her tail dock, and vaginal drip. Please offer any suggestions that you can to help with these problems.

Do a search for Diva for her picture.

At any rate, if you are in Japan and looking for a Dobe, I have a few sources for you.

Where are you from in Japan?? MISAWA!??!??! OH PLEASE LET IT BE MISAWA??!?!?!?
Welcome to the best forum in the world..I hope you will find friendship and lots of information here. I think you will find that we are very supportive of each other and a little nutty too!
Now you ask "why is she so excited about Japan and Misawa" I live at Misawa AFB, Japan for 4 beautiful years back in 84-88 and love every minute of it.. I would move back and live there forever if I could! I also lived there back in 72-73! Tell me all about where you live and your beautiful dog!
Tell me more about the tail problem and vaginal drip. I think I may know the problem to both!! Look forward to chatting with you!

WooHoo, I don't feel nearly as alone anymore (not that I ever really felt alone here or anything but you know what I mean :-) ).

Hi there JapanDobeMan, I'm JapanDobeWoman or better yet OkinawaDobeWoman :-) Hubby is in the AF, this is our second tour here and we love it :-) You're right though, finding a Dobe over here isn't all that easy. There certainly aren't many on this little island but I managed to ferret out a female pup - from a local breeder - back in July and she is the most wonderful pup in the world :-) We don't have a shortage of vets who will crop/dock or remove dew claws down here though. The vet we use off base was quite dissapointed when I decided not to have her ears done. We do have a shortage of qualified obedience instructors (or at least those who speak English). I would consider removing a limb to be up there and have some good hands on training.
Look forward to reading your posts and seeing more pics of Diva. She is a doll!

Hello and welcome to the forum! As for her vaginal drip, my girl had puppy vaginitis at about 4 months (I think, give or take), it cleared up with antiboitics.

Thanks for all of the attention. I am happy to say yes I am up North and a recent addition the military. The snow hit the ground for the first time this year this weekend. Diva didn't quite know how to handle it. She was sniffing around so much she had a 3-4 inch horn on her snout, much like a rhino.

Her drip is a yellowish color. At first it smelled really foul. I even gagged a few times. She has been on antibiotics for a total of one month (on and off) and it hasn't cleared up. I went to the vet the other day (for another problem: grape size masses under the skin) and they said that it would probably take care of itself. As for the tail. We will wait to go to the states to have the scar tissue removed. She has it docked at the second joint now. I have read that docking at the first joint is acceptable.

We considered obedience training as well. It's just that the training would be in Japanese.

She is learning really fast right now. She is almost potty trained and knows how to sit, stay, down, stand, and shake. She is our first dog and takes up a lot of our time. We were cat people. I hear that they settle down.

Here is a link to trainers in Japan that are part of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers - I found it when I was searching for a trainer here on the island...

I heard they settle down to, but my pup is 6 months and still a ball of energy :-)
