New Member Need Doberman Breeder Recommendations...

Hello everyone! My name is Lou and I'm new to the forum. Would anyone be able to recommend a doberman breeder in the NJ/NY area? My family would love to give a dobe pup a great home. I've checked the DPCA site, but there are so many breeders listed and it's hard to tell who's reputable. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not familiar with breeders in the area you are talking about, but one thing that might help you narrow down your search--what do you plan to do with your doberman? Show for conformation, agility, protection work, service dog or just plain all around great with a family dog?
If you look over the records of various breeders, you can see what kinds of titles and work they are doing with their dogs, and what their philosophy is about what a doberman should be, and try to match it with your wishes.
Good luck!

Thanks for getting back guys! ACarrigDobermans, I sent Niklby an Email, but haven't heard back. Do you have a contact number for them? They are actually very close to where I live. Melbrod, thanks for the advice. I'm looking for a great pet quality dog. Is there a place to view records of breeders? I can't even seem to find sites that review breeders. I obviously want to make the right choice.

I did speak with Susan Miller of Catawba in Mays Landing, NJ and Linda Ramsey of Ramsey's Dobi Gang in West Milford, NJ. Also, Elaine Werner of Scarlet Night recommended Joan Witt of Cha-Rish in PA. Anyone heard anything about these breeders? They were all very nice and informative, but any additional info. anyone has on them would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you are looking for a good pet quality dog may I suggest looking into rescues? Many wonderful dogs are given up each year due to financial difficulty, change in residence or situation and not because of behavior issues.

In the 30+ years I've had dogs almost all of them have been an unwanted pet and I have yet to have one that I couldn't work with. My "best" dogs have been adopted from city pounds. One of them became my service dog.

Susan Miller and Joan Witt are well respected. They'd be good to contact, along with Niklby.

betty (of niklby) is VERY busy right now - she's very busy at work so i'd give her some time to respond. i know she has a 1 year old female available right now that would be a great performance dog, and phoebe just had a litter i believe. she (and her daughter) have always been very pleasant !

Thanks for everyone's input! We've decided to use Linda Ramsey of Ramsey's Dobigang in Hewitt, NJ. My family visited her home last weekend and it was an awesome experience. We pulled up to her house only to be greeted by eight beautiful, well behaved dobes. I have to admit when we arrived I was nervous as hell being surrounded by all of those dogs, but after seeing how friendly and respectful they were my family and I were blown away. Just so happens a litter of nine were born the night before we arrived. We didn't get to see the puppies of course, but we left our deposit and are meeting our new male pup for the first time next week! I'll be sure to post pics soon...
