Stella had a bbq beef rib bone from Bo's BBQ, she developed hives on her back as an allergic reaction the next day and the hives persisted for a week. The bumps dishevel her hair and are the same size as a human pimple but not red, they're the same color as her skin.

She has also learned to notify me of needing to go to the bathroom. She'll lick my hand!

Don't know why I missed this thread, but I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at the "retrospective" of Stella growing up - what a sweetie pie! Lois in San Diego

Hello from N. California. Stella is 2 years old! Her birthday mug

Stella has calmed down from her wild childhood energy and is passive, sweet to dogs and humans. The routine is set where she gets run a mile in the morning and evening, fed twice daily (a small bowl of purina one with milk, special occasions an egg), makes it to the dog park or the redwood trails or the beach at least once bi-weekly during this short day winter season.

Thank goodness for all the recommendations from the Dobermantalk forums about crate training - it has really been ideal with her resting and sleeping patterns! Oh and another thing, her washings have been greatly helped by a hand shower in the bath - highly recommended.

The "separation anxiety" youtube video of Stella at 11 months has over 35,000 views. Lots of comments, too.

Thanks Dobermantalk, a great resource for dobie owners.

Stella, Black & Tan Californian Doberman, Concord, CA.

Lightbulb Love great parks, like this one in San Ramon!

Large, wide, long distance fetching on lush green grass. This is a public park in a development in San Ramon, CA, off Bollinger Canyon. Notice the key ingredients to a successful park:

1) Fresh water access, dog specific bowl as well, shielded from the heat, water was cold even though temperatures were floating near 100 degrees.

2) Shade, trees, maintained grass

3) Public accessibility, parking, easy parking

4) Trash and recycling bins

One thing I didn't see was the availability of doggie bags but I hadn't ventured to the other side of the park with the playground or public bathrooms and bbqs. These compostable bags are a luxury and grateful when I see this at parks - also promotes owners to pick up after their dogs because believe it or not, picking up after ones dog is not a default behavior for noob dog owners.

Stella is coming on her third birthday and still requires continuous exercise daily, be it the two ball or two disc (seen here) routine. She has matured greatly but still exhibits S.A. though simply the "doberman whine" not the destruction that comes with in premature stages. My youtube video on doberman separation anxiety during Stella's puppyhood (11 months old at the time) has over 75,000 unique views now.

This is my 3rd dog, previous two were free, adopted between 8-12 weeks old, and mixed breed (Labrador Husky, Rottweiler Shepherd). That said, my dob pup has been the most demanding thus far.

I am currently working on her healing ears, house-training, and walking her on lead. Oddly enough, she follows off-leash, but is stubborn on. I am finding this tedious as the ideal traits I find in a dog are activity and running partner. I am against giving "treats" by way of food. Any suggestions on walking her on lead would be appreciated.

Hi from the 916! El Dorado Hills, near sacramento..

Where did you get your new dobe puppy?

@Osirisdobermanns: Thanks for the question. Stella was born in Livermore, CA. And she's not a new puppy. If you jet back to the first page, I took that photo in 2006 and I've consistently checked into Dobermantalk through the years to chronicle her puppyhood and now adulthood as she's 3 years old!

Smile Happy Fourth, Stella!

Stella's matured at forty eight months, can go from play mode wild running figure 8's and 360s to stop/sit/lay down within a snap. We've come a long way from being a complete pain in the ass even leading on leash.

Her prey drive still forces Stella into chasing squirrels (though catching it, doesn't know what to do with it) and she runs without tire up and down hills at super sonic speeds on 10 mile hikes on singletrack and fire roads off-leash. Diet consists of Purina One (1 cup of dry food at AM and a second in PM). Her skin shines more on the salmon kind, with less flatulence (gas), to boot. Once a month pill (Sentinel) since puppyhood keeps the house flea-free. She loves the laying in the sun about as much as she loves attention.

Thanks Doberman Talk!

Doberman Pinscher Dogs in Movie Films

Question, does anyone know anything about the pair of Doberman Pinschers in the first scene of the film, True Lies (James Cameron, 1994)? Good lookin' dogs! They were acting as security dogs of the 007 type security detail when Arnold Schwarzenegger's character runs from them before knocking the two heads together. Although the action knock out wasn't real, it was Hollywood magic via imdb:

Revealing mistakes: When Harry is being chased from the mansion, he is attacked by two Dobermans. The Dobermans jump at him and get 'coconut crunched' together. The dogs used at that point were rubber. One of the rubber dogs' eyes pops out and can be seen flying off the right side of the screen when using frame-by-frame advance, as well when they fall to the ground they bend and crease like rubber (they also bounce).

RIP Stella

9 years old, gone too soon. RIP Stella. Hip dysplasia, arthritis rendered her unable to move. Her appetite was strong. But her confidence and enjoyment of life was hurting.

Lessons learned:

- exercise with your Doberman: walk or run every day
- if running, do NOT use chest no-pull collar
- supplement diet with glucosamine MSM in food, treats or chewables (joints) early on before any symptoms. I learned too late.
- no crate training! big flat memory bed is key so the dog can lay out and stretch
- trim nails with a dremel type tool (helps dog to walk on hardwood floors too)

You'll be missed, Stella.
