Black/rust puppy getting white hairs

Hi,

Iím new to this page and was wondering if I can get some help or advise. My 3 month old black/rust pup has started growing white hair all over her. She did have Parvo and her ears cropped. It started when she got her second set of shots. I took her to the vet and they did advise me to have her blood check (again) and skin scrape. I will take her in for those test but would like to here if anyone had had this happen to there pup.

Thanks!

No I haven't. And I've raised a lot of Dobe puppies--most of them black and rust.

I think I'd get a referral to a vet dermatologist/allergist rather than just having her checked by her general purpose vet.

All of the black and rust Dobes I've had have all ended up with a few white hairs by the time they are adults--but they are from things like bites by litter mates, running through a hedge with things that had thorns on them. And they were just a few.

Good luck finding out what's causing this.

Hi Scarlett! And welcome From the Pacific NW.

I have a question... Please don't be offended: Are you sure that your puppy is a purebred doberman?

The reason that I ask, is that I've seen quite a few B&R pups that could easily pass as Dobe pups to the average person not familiar with the breed. Most ended being mixed breeds of some sort, probably with some Doberman in there somewhere. My cousin has one that he was told was a Dobe when he rescued it as a puppy. It did look a lot like a Dobe puppy. It grew uploading nothing like one!

If it is purebred, I haven't a clue. Like dobebug, I have owned quite a few black and rust Dobes. The only time they grew white hairs was due to injury or old age.

Good luck,

I'm wondering if the stress of the parvo infection could cause her hair to turn white.

Dobermans can develop vitiligoówhite patches in their fur appear, generally somewhere on their face firstóbut I don't think it typically shows up until the dog is adult.
