Talking Hello from Tennessee!

Hi, I'm Mandy, new to your group. I'm in Chattanooga, TN, currently have a 2 year old goldendoodle who was a compromise from a former relationship (ex was afraid of dobies) ...I kept the dog, but not the ex! :-)

I've been looking for a doberman to adopt since November of last year, but with COVID, have had my efforts somewhat curtailed. I decided that branching out & networking might be the way to go. Perhaps there's a breeder out there with a pet-quality pup or an adult they're looking to retire, or maybe someone knows someone who must rehome a dobe. I've not had much luck finding what I want from TN rescues or neighboring states.

I'd prefer black/rust or red/rust, cropped & docked. Willing to pay adoption fee of course. This will be a companion (not looking for a show dog) that I hope to be able to take lots of places with me. Age isn't important. Pet will be spayed/neutered. I believe that training is important, both in order to become a good citizen, and to keep their mind engaged.

I'm a single female, homeowner with fenced yard & references (personal and veterinary). Brody is the other member of the household, about 55 lbs, neutered & very good-natured.

While I'm waiting, I'm gonna hang out with you guys!

Thanks!
-Mandy

Hi! Welcome to DT from Colorado! I hope you find what you're looking for!

I do want to add one piece of advice for you—make sure your new dog is the opposite sex to Brody. Dobes are known for same sex aggression, and even if the other dog is well-mannered, ugly things can happen between them. Neutering doesn't seem to make a difference, and while training might help you be able to control the problem dog on a leash while the other is around, it won't necessarily allow you to let both loose together, even if you're in the room with them. It's an inbuilt thing with dobes—not all of them display this aggression, but it can be sudden and unexpected, showing up even if the dogs have been happy friends for years.

You may already know that, but just to be sure…

Hi Mandy! And welcome from the Pacific NW.

Good luck in your search. Please keep us updated. Our current boys (Dobes) had a male Goldendoodle living across the street and generally got along really well with him.

Still, I agree with Melbrod. Same Sex Aggression can pop up in Dobermans and if it does it can turn your life upside down should your household include two dogs of the same sex. So... assuming that Brody is a male, you should consider limiting your search to a nice Doberman bitch.

Another hello from Colorado.

I just want to echo everyone else's advice and please be wary of SSA.
