Question New Dobermom of a rescue

Hi there!

We just got approved and sent in our deposit for adoption for a 10mth-1 yr old red doberman found walking around San Antonio with his mom and sister.
His sister actually died of Parvo (which he had as well but did well on treatment) and his mom was adopted out the other day! But I'm a new doberman mom living in Jersey City/NYC area and any advice would help!

I know ill have to enroll him in training right away but I want to give him a couple weeks to settle in after traveling up from TX. The goal would be to get him into therapy dog service but again, big goal.
TIA, everyone!

DN55, Welcome from San Antonio, TX!
Welcome to the world of Dobermans!
Great goals for your new Doberboy, hope to see pics of him soon.

When we adopted Eva at 2 y/o from HADR we were obliged by adoption contract to complete a basic obedience course within a certain time period. So at that time we also enrolled Spock in same course (across a large training room). Then later on, I had Spock go through the AKC CGC, which as it turned out, was an excellent primer to Pet Partner's Therapy Dog evaluation.

Due to my job out of town before retiring, I got a late start with Spock in the CGC & therapy dog evaluations, but therapy work was a perfect match for his temperament. A year later, Eva also passed her Pet Partners evaluation and was registered.

Here is our thread for our Doberman as a therapy dog saga:

Good luck with your new puppy! Plenty of resources on DT site, suggest using search feature before posting new inquiry thread(s).

Hi DobeNewbie! And welcome from the Pacific NW!

Wow... Did you drive there and back?

In any case, it's nice to have you here. Thank you so much for adopting a Doberman in need. There is a lot of knowledge, available advice and support here on DT to take advantage of.

BTW, what is your new boy's name?

Hope to hear from you again soon.

Hi everyone! Thanks for the messages!
The rescue named him Dusk but we're still debating whether to change it or not.
The adoption center adopts out of state so he'll be shipped to us in the next couple of weeks as he's recovering from getting neutered.
