Thumbs up New from NY

Hi!
I'm a mom to 4 girls.... Two human and two Dobies
My previous Doberman that started my love for the breed was Tyson.... He died very suddenly at 6 (almost 7) years old. It was heartbreaking. He was the true definition of a Doberman. I'll love him forever.
A few months later a friend told us about a local breeder that had one female left. We weren't really sure but fell in love once we met her.... And her sister who was also available. We couldn't pass them up and are now proud to own Portia and Priscilla, both 1 year old.
Any info on owning siblings is always welcome. They're good girls but they have their moments

Thanks!
Kristen

Welcome to DT from Colorado.

The most important thing about owning siblings is that you give them a lot of individual time--train them separately, separate playtimes, hang around with them one at a time.

That way they will bond more with you than with each other and won't become dependent on their sibling. Pups of similar age raised together tend to rely on each other, to their individual detriment. One may become more shy; the other outgoing. But both will need the other around to be OK with their world.

Sounds like you have two kids? If they're old enough, maybe they can help you--they can take turns training and playing with each of the dogs separately.

Another welcome from Colorado!

Please do your research about littermate syndrome. I feel that would benefit you and your pups in the future.

Thank you! Yes, definitely have researched it.... The girls have their own crates, dishes, etc. We own our own business so one comes to the office each day to distance and socialize. They've done great and any issues are few and far between. They're both great with the family separately and together. It's not easy, but I knew it wouldn't be!
