Hello fellow Doberman lovers

I'm just a hair past my 6th decade. I had dobermans, but not under the best of circumstances, when I was in my teens. In 1995 I was graced with a Doberman puppy, a fawn female. Alas, 'Isabel' did suffer from Color Mutant Alopecia. She lived to be 12, when she was about 11 1/2 she developed a heart problem. Anyway, of the 3 dobermans I had when I was younger, 2 were black, one of which had a skin problem, and 1 was fawn, and he had a beautiful coat, which was why in 95 I wanted another fawn.

I live on some acreage, and have a tendency to keep any strays I find. I've had several dogs, both mutts and purebreds, But only those 4 Dobies. Dobies are my FAVORITE breed, and one day I plan on getting another. At one time I had 8 dogs, all at the same time! Years ago when I heard that someone had a pack of dogs that size, I thought they were nuts. I am now down to 3 dogs, and when the oldest goes, that's when I'll be getting my Doberman. May be 3 years, may be 5, but since I've been out of touch with Dobies, it'll give me lots of time to research breeders, and, if I want a European or American dog.

Hope all is well with everyone, I'm looking forward to getting these brain cells sharpened up.

Welcome to DT from Colorado!

Yup, having a dobe will sharpen up those brain cells all right...they're often smarter than their owners and they know how to take full advantage of it. LOL

It's a blessing and a curse all at the same time. You can't imagine your life without them but at the same time "what the hell was I thinking" keeps running through your head.

Be very careful about how much you believe of ECIN (Kenny) comments in his posts.

Anyone who has ever had a Doberman KNOWS they are not perfect angels--maybe perfect lil' devil's--that's more believable.

Welcome to the forum from Portland (the left hand one) Oregon.

dobebug

PS Beware of the present hype about European dogs--there are all too many American breeders (most not too reputable ones) who take advantage of the "Euro" cache'. Personally I prefer to get puppies from local breeders who are generally regarded as good--that is taking the time and trouble to make appropriate choices of breeding pairs and doing their best to produce puppies that are healthy, have good temperaments and actually look like Dobermans. There are far more back yard breeders than good breeders and unfortunately a few outright kennels who breed just for the money.

There is a definite advantage to having the breeder on the same continent if not in the same state so they can be easily reached to answer questions if there are problems.

Hi DD!

Like dobebug, I also welcome you from the Pacific NW!

Let's see... 2 hours South of Oregon and 2 hours West of Nevada. Hmm... That would put you somewhere around Redding. Correct?

If so, lucky you. There are lots of good breeders here in the Pacific NW, including Southern Oregon.

Keep updating.

Hello, welcome from Florida.
Sounds like you are a dog lover like the rest of us.
Welcome to our world!
Hoss is a European Doberman.....and he still keeps me very very busy.
Health is good ......I found a a breeder in my state that has been dealing with the same breeder overseas for many many years .
My breeder here in florida ..to this very day ...will respond to my emails within 24 hours ...so that relationship is also very important.
Hoss is four now and still has quite the drive to play ....but he settles nicely into his daily routine.
Welcome again.

Hoss

OK Aunt Bug ! I was just kidding about the Angel part

As all know on here - Mr. Business was the most problem child we have ever raised - But what a great Doberson he has turned into
