Shedding

Hi, my name is Jen I am from Canada we have a 1 year old Doberman she was born in July 2018, we just had her spayed let her go through one heat. She has been shedding a lot lately, its been quite humid the past month off and on. No patchiness just lots of hair. She is happy and seems very healthy she has never shed this much? I am planning to make a vet appointment tomorrow as today is holiday, has anyone had this? I have a curry brush and have brushing her and added some virgin coconut oil to her coat. Thanks all glad to have found this forum.

Hi jen...

So JMO... Do not brush a Doberman's skin/coat. That may only exacerbate shedding and/or skin issues. Do not over bathe. Same thing. Although, I can't in good conscious recommend it, McCoy has never (in almost 5 years) been bathed. At least not with shampoo.

I am sure that there are those who will disagree. Still... His skin has always been good and his coat is lustrous. His natural oils take care of it.

He does get hosed off occasionally. And the winter rains here in Portland help keep him clean.

My boys shed when they shed. Oh well.

That's why I have vacuums LOL.

The coat is so different between our two girls. Kiri's is so short and sleek that I have to say honestly I have never seen her shed. I am sure she does, but it isn't obvious to anyone.
Jada has a longer, and what I call 'fluffier' coat. It is soft. She sheds just twice a year. We brush her vigorously with a houndsglove mitt and give her a bath. At that is it and it is over until
Spring. Types of food or diet may make a difference in how dogs shed. I don't know. This is just how we do it.

Mocha has always shed. A lot. Nothing we've tried has made one bit of difference.

She is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are her life, her love, her leader. She will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of her heart. You owe it to her to be worthy of such devotion.

Is the coat on the red Dobermans different than the black coated? Not so much in shedding, but even texture? Or does it vary by individuals and genetics rather than color?
