Hello, I need opinions on my new Pup!!

Hello everyone,

I just adopted a puppy from foster care. They do not have much info on the puppy, other than what the vet said.

The vet the foster care uses said she looks like a Rottweiler/Lab mix. So we went with that.

Skip to a week later, our vet personally has a Doberman, and has had them for 25 years. And she says that shes about 95% sure shes a Dobie.

What do you guys think?

If this is in the wrong section I apologize. Just really looking forward to some responses!

Really hard to say. She looks like she's got some extra fuzziness in her fur, which isn't typical in Dobes, but improbable isn't impossible. I have personally met and briefly fostered a coated Doberman for a rescue.

She is 100% cute. And that is undeniable.

Welcome to DT! I think it's hard to say at this age, but it's fun to speculate. I would guess a lab cross of some sort. She looks like a really sweet girl.

I'm pretty sure that I see quite a bit of Dobe in her. My youngest was a very furry pup. He was the only Dobe pup I have ever had with a belly full of hair. He also had lots of cowlicks. Still does!

So... Dobe/Lab mix, perhaps?

Does she still have her tail? One can tell a lot by an un-cropped tail. Dobes, Labs and Rotties have very different looking tails.

If she is a Dobe, she should begin chewing your hands and arms off any day! LOL

Well, regardless of her breed, she is really really cute.

Thank you! She is for sure a beautiful pup. And I am driving myself crazy really hoping she has a lot of Doberman in her. I have always wanted a Doberman. Lol

Pictures of her tail

I apologize if these pictures do not show the detail you need to judge her tail. She is always wagging the dang thing. Hard to get a picture of it. LOL

In some pictures, see more Rottie than Doberman. In others, I see what might be more Doberman. I wonder if maybe a Dobe x Rottie cross? Whatever she is, she's gorgeous.

She's very cute--that's for sure.

She looks like a Dobe X Lab cross to me--doesn't seem to have as much bone as I'd expect to see in a Rott cross--and her feet look more Dobe than Rott and I think good Lab feet look more like Dobe feet than Rott feet. LOL-that tail looks like a hairy Dobe tail-I can't remember what a purebred Rott tail looks like but that tail looks all Dobe--way too long to look like a Lab tail.

You'll have to wait until she finishes growing up--and maybe then you'll be able to identify what the mix is.

She is adorable! Definitely a cross from the thickness of fur and her tail is also thicker than a typical Doberman's tail. I think the original call of Doberman x Rottie could be correct. I think that if she was a Doberman x Lab cross, the rust markings would not be as distinct and the eye not as dark..... that of course is JMHO. Good luck with her. If she is Doberman x Rottie, be prepared to really do a lot of socializing and training with her - both breeds require it.

Thanks everyone! I will keep you updated, this has been very helpful. She is in socialization/puppy classes every Saturday. And we take her for walks around our complex to meet other dogs. She loves dogs and people, such a sweet dog. She also has a 75lb Boxer/Staffy big brother who she loves already. They play all day long until they fall asleep. I feel like I hit the lottery with these 2 adoptions!

Yes, I forgot to mention that I ordered the DNA kit a couple days ago. Still waiting for it to be delivered.

Will update you all with the results when I receive them. Thank you all for your interest and input on this. I like this forum, not all purebred sites are as positive towards a possible mixed breed.

I attached a new picture from a different angle to capture her snout and head shape a little better.

All DNA test kits are not equal. Basically, from what I have read, you get what you pay for... When tests are compared Embark seems to come out on top, with Wisdom a close second.

Here is one the many recent articles comparing several popular test kits:
