Really beautiful puppy! And a lot of that is her wise and loving expression. She could be all lab!

Your puppy is so cute! I keep thinking Rottweiler and Dobe but I don't think her paws are big enough. Did the vet give you any indication of how big she will be? A female rottweiler will be ~80 to 100+ lbs. What's undeniable is she is super cute.

Thank you all for the positive interactions on this post!

Sorry for the delay on the updates. Canceled my original order of the DNA test until I can afford the better test. Had some vet bills for both dogs come up and vacation. Figured I better hold off temporarily.

But here is an update on bailey. Shes about 30 pounds now. Her snout is definitely longer than it was. Her paws are almost as big as my 1 year old male 75 pound boxer/staffy mix.

Ive attached a couple pictures I just took today.

How offing darling. I still see lots of Dobe in her. Even more than your initial pics.

As far a Rottweiler is concerned, A friend of mine who has owned Rotties as long as I have known him just got a new pup. (He just lost one and his remaining boy is upon age).

Your Bailey bears no resemblance at all to his pup "Ozzy".

I'm sticking with Dobe x Lab. Glad you are going to use a better test kit. The cheap ones are almost a joke.

Another update... Baileys' adult teeth in the front have come in, from her canines back, they are still puppy teeth.

The vet is still standing by her original guess that she has a large percentage of Doberman.

She pointed out the unique arrangement of teeth that is typically only found in a Doberman. The 2 pointed ones next to the canines, and the long puppycanines that hang over the lower lips.

INTERESTING to say the least. Lol!

Okay guys, heres another update for you. She weighs about 40 pounds & her teeth are getting bigger and coming through nicely.

She has been doing the Doberman "clacking" of her teeth a lot when shes playing with my other dog.

Waiting for Black Friday to get the DNA tests, so it wont be much longer!

Let me know what you think of the updates!

How old do you think she is now? 40 pounds is getting up there in size...I thought she'd stay smaller.

HI njs... So nice to hear back from you!

OK.. JMO.

Your pup is primarily Doberman. Forget the obvious coloration, as a lot of breeds have classic Black and Tan (rust) in their genes.

I am looking at the head shape, neck, deep, yet narrow chest and the forelegs and paws.PLus her narrow and muscular rear end.

The snout and ears still scream "lab" to me. (a tiny bit).

The point, however, is totally moot.

You have one beautiful girl in Baily. That is totally regardless of how the DNA tests come back.

Lucky you and lucky Baily.

Yup! When I was running a medium sized boarding kennel there was a local breeder who referred her puppy people to us for boarding if needed. She also told us one day when she was picking up a bitch in season we were boarding for her that her breeding line always produced a few Black and tan and Chocolate and tan dogs--we already knew because we'd seen quite a few of them--most had nice clear marking--the black dogs with marking had closer to rust and the chocolates were definitely tan.

I've also seen black and tans where the markings were very faint.

Ma Nature--make all the plans you want and she's always there to stir the pot.

Weimaraners also have a recessive for tan markings that shows up from time to time--we have a client in the clinic who always said that after she bough a lovely bitch who finished her championship easily she (the client/owner)says that she has become the repository for Weim mismarks (she now has a Weim with tan markings) and disallowed colors (and she was given a charming blue {not an allowed color in Weims} bitch who she is showing in Obedience).

Considering the mishmash that constituted the original breeding for the Doberman it's a wonder we don't get more than an occasional coated dog. I figure that was just blind luck.

Thank you all for chiming in!!! This is exciting watching her grow. She is about 5 months old now if the vet was correct on her age at the point of adoption. She weighs between 38-40 pounds currently. She "clacks" a lot, and her teeth are very Doberman shaped/aligned. When we first got her, she was very calm and collective. Now, she literally is a cannonball. She flies from one end of the house to the other and she is fearless.

The other day I took her bully stick away after about 30 mins so she didn't eat too much of it at once. Well, I put it on the kitchen Island. She knew it was there, and when I wasn't paying attention, she ran full speed from the other room, launched herself from the couch about 6-8 feet to the counter-top of the island. Grabbed her bully stick and jumped back down and acted like nothing just happened. I was in tears from laughing so hard!!!!

She is also INSANELY fast. My Boxer/Staffy mix was one of the fastest dogs at the park. And he has trouble keeping up with her. Which is strange because his strides are long so he gets more distance between steps. So if Dobermans tend to be fast runners, she definitely got that gene.

Thanks again for checking in guys! Will post more updates in a month or 2!

Another quick update, she is still growing for sure. She is coming up on 6 months soon. She will be getting fixed soon, so I will update her weight when I get her into the vet!
