Hello again!

Hi all!

I'm new to the forum as well. Not my first dog, but our first Dobe! Already met some of you yesterday when I was in my potty training crisis (thank you all for talking me off the ledge and knocking some sense into me!).

I haven't always wanted a Doberman, but there was a time in high school when I used to dog sit and got stuck in a house with 5 crazy dogs. Ironically enough, the Doberman was the most chill, laid back dog I'd ever met! I remember thinking, "Wow! I wouldn't mind having a dog like this someday!"

I've had Boston's my whole life (and always will!!) and my husband grew up with Rotties. He wanted a large dog but we didn't think a Rottie would be compatible with the crazy energy level and rough play of our Boston, Gimli. I recalled my dog sitting experience and we decided to research the Doberman (which has the looks of a Rottie, but energy more on parr with our little Bostie). We now have our current 6 month old, Bane. He's the exact opposite of the calm, collected, confident Doberman experience I had years ago while dog sitting and he's certainly putting my dog training skills to the test.

That being said, I will probably be a frequent flyer on this forum while we figure each other out

Aww, doesn't he look all innocent
Patience, patience, consistency, sense of humor, more patience. I would crate train him right off, both to help him learn to calm down and also to give the Boston some peace and quiet.

Thanks CRDobe!

We have successfully crate trained with no issues. Bane is in there all day with plenty of toys while we're at work. We've just upgraded him to a HUGE crate because he outgrew the last one.. A couple months after we brought him home, and before we had the house gated off, he would walk up the stairs and get in the crate all by himself! A couple minutes later, we'd wonder where he was and find he snuck off and was just sitting in there, patiently waiting for his reward hahah.

Our Bostie gets the run of the house while we're away. We started him in the crate as well, but he's proven he can handle freedom lol. We'll eventually test the waters with Bane, too, to see how he does outside the crate and with a little more space. We'll probably gate him in the kitchen/laundry room area away from the other dog.
