Rommelís Human

Hello,

New to Doberman Talk, actually Iím new to participating in any forum so may stumble a bit. I have a male Doberman named Rommel he will be 5 yrs old November 26th. He means the world to me, I love my dog more than most people. I am joining in hopes of getting help to save him, he is sick and vets are baffled at this point. He was vibrant healthy and active three weeks ago, suddenly he got sick like he had a sore throat and would not eat, I took him to vet, he had fever and enlarged spleen, he ended up getting spleen removed, cancer was ruled out, plethora of blood tests have been done, his lymph nodes swelled up huge in his face after surgery, he tested positive for three tick diseases which would be highly rare per the vet so they felt something else triggered that, he is on doxycycline just in case, and amoxicillin with potassium and caprofen for pain and fever. He was on appetite stimulate. He started showing improvement when they added the amoxicillin he started eating on his own I was so happy, but then he got bloody nose yesterday I took him back to vet he has slowed up on eating again, they are testing for fungus waiting on results but not likely cause we donít live in are with it. They have run every kind of test and are baffled at this point. Any ideas or anyone with this type of issue that can help? I donít want to lose him.

57 - Sorry to hear that Rommel is not feeling well !

I was on Doxycycline for over a year - It does have side effects - I lost my appetite when I was on it - it also up set my stomach + head aches

I did goggle side affect on dogs --

Allergic reactions: difficult breathing, swelling in the head area (throat, tongue, lips, face)
Headaches
Liquid-filled vesicles around groin, mouth or ears
Less urinating or the urine may become dark

I know that this is NOT the root of your problem - just some info for you .

I personally think it's time to seek out a Advanced Hospital or University vet hospital - also add a internal medicine vet - 3 week is long enough time on trail and error from your current vet , just saying .

Best of luck with Rommel !!!

Keep us updated

Doc

1. Welcome

2. I'm very sorry to hear about your boy. It's the hardest not having answers.

3. They ruled out Leukemia or any sore of brain tumor?

I see you're in Florida. Have you thought about taking him to the FSU vet?

I am sorry to hear about Rommel. I noticed you live in Florida have you considered going to University of Florida Vet School in Gainesville.
