That is very large for his age. Do you know for sure that he is only 19 weeks?

But without a picture, it's hard to tell if he is the right weight for his bone structure and body type or not.

56 lb. at just over 4 1/2 months does seem a little large, but not necessarily. When our youngest was first looked over by our vet, he posited that McCoy was going to be a very large dog based on his size at the time and his bone structure. He did grow and gain weight very rapidly. I was like...This is going to be one big boy. He looked like the boy that had who passed a few years back. That dog was always trying to push a buck.

The suddenly at about 7 months and about 80 lb. he stopped growing. Today at 4 yo, he is a very average sized male in both stature and weight. He did, however, continue to put on muscle mass slowly until about 3.

So.. If you give him proper care, nutrition and exercise, he should end up exactly where he is supposed to be.

Also, if you want opinions on his weight versus his stature, as others mentioned, you should post a pic.

Best to young your pup.

His parents' mature weight and growth pattern of his bloodlines might give you some info too...Does his bloodline grow early and then level off, or do their puppies grow at a slow and steady pace, taking a long time to mature.

This chart might give you some help.

A very general rule of thumb is about 10 pounds per month....according to that, 45 pounds at 19 weeks (4.5 months--months aren't actually only 4 weeks long) would be an average size. But who out there is average?

I think that sounds pretty heavy for a puppy not quite 4.5 months (the average length of a month is 4.3 weeks).

While it's been pointed out that there is not really anything that is average--this sounds like a puppy who may simply be carrying too much weight for his age. Pictures help--knowing the lines he comes from and how fast they grow also can shed some light on whether or not 56 pounds at 19 weeks would give a better clue.

I've raised a lot of male puppies over the 59 years I've had mostly Dobermans and even puppies who grew into big dogs (on average) weight was more like 42 to 47 pounds at 19 weeks.
