New member looking for dobe pup

Hi, I am a new member and would like information on Dobie pups in Illinois? Any recommendations? Also, I know this sounds silly, but does the color of the Dobie effect the personality? I had a brown standard poodle and he was a brown clown, so to speak. The breeder warned me regarding the color of the pup. She said this was typical of the brown color. I did not believe her until I lived with him for a few months. He has a brother who is black and much more serious and obedient, who also lives with me. Any thoughts?

Welcome to DT!

Check the DPCA Breeders referral here: DPCA | The Doberman | Breeder Referral
and also the Facebook Group Doberman Pinscher Breeder Listings:

Look also at surrounding States, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin. There are good breeders in all of those states.

Good Luck with your search!

My experience with coat color affecting personality in dogs (specifically Dobermans) is that it's pretty much an urban myth.

I've owned and lived with every Dobe color except blue in the many years I've owned Dobermans and despite the fact that there are always people who will tell you and who have told me that red dogs are goofier than black dogs I never found this to be true.

I've had every possible personality type in black dogs and although I've had far fewer red dogs the same was true for those that I had. My one fawn dog (who should be goofy as he could be since genetically he's red faded by a dilution gene to fawn) has been super smart, exceedingly outgoing and sweet.

And the only truly "dumb" Dobe I ever had was black--thick as a brick but willing to try anything I wanted but not very clever about getting to the desired end results.

Check the sources that Shelly (above post) suggests and good luck on your search.
