Dobe from Seattle WA

Hi everyone at DT!

My dobe is a great red/rust 2yr old male. My wife had a German Shepard growing up but I never had any dogs and this would be my first. My Aunt had a doberman that I played Frisbee with growing up and always liked that interaction. When we went to get Bruno, I knew nothing about dobes or much about having dogs. All my friends told me *NOT* to get a doberman for my first dog. I am sure glad I didnt listen to them!!

We picked Bruno up from a family that had a litter near the Canadian Border, we had to choose from about 8 dobes. Bruno was 3 months old and stood head and shoulders above the rest of the litter - which I thought was odd but my wife chose him as he was the one that would hug/nuzzle with her the most! Little did I know what I was in for!!

Typically, I take Bruno for 4-5 mile journey daily or at least every other day. And people in the neighborhood know his name and all the kids around adore him. Happy to have him for the last 2 yrs, but he is a handful! I joined this forum to learn how to break some of his bad habits... Hopefully its not too late now that he just turned 2?? Also, I would like to learn to train him a little more. He knows the basic stuff; sit, stay, lay, speak, leave, but still working on drop and would like to learn some more.

In the past 2 years I have learned a ton and watched Bruno do things I never thought a dog would do. For example, when he was about 6 month old I came home and he peeled (split the peel down the middle) and eaten a banana. And he regularly pushes our refrigerator door water button with his nose when he wants water!!

Welcome from Japan!
Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the USA. Some of my best Japanaese friends live there

It does sound you have a fun life with your smart guy, Bruno I could picture it from your story.
Ourselves too, as the first time doberman (=dog) owner. Only 4 years ago, our dream came true and since then I enjoy living with my dobe, Elza.

If you'd like to seek more advices, I suggest you to post on the Doberman Related Chat.

Hello fellow NW Dobie owner!

What a good looking dog! We just got a doberman puppy. So many people to us how we should be careful about getting a doberman but she has been so kind to others. We've been socializing her a lot and already have placed her in canine obedience training! Have you needed to put a sweater or jacket on your dog? I noticed she definitely shivers now that winter has come. We've had a cold season. We live more north near the border.

New owner of a red doberman! She is the sweetest thing. Looking to learn as much about her breed. First time doberman owner.

Thanks Elzajpn - Seattle is a great city! Elza looks like a great companion!!

Hey USMCDoberman - Great tattoo and yes I plan on posting more photos

What up PacNWDobie! Thanks. Autumn looks about how Bruno did when he was that age! I'm a first time owner as well and lets just say its been interesting 2 yrs : ) Yes, he does shiver now that its cold and below 32F (my wife insists) he wears a jacket. Usually, when we are out he is running so its not too bad.

We live a few miles North of Seattle near Mill Creek/S. Everett
